  • my sound system D:

  • what in the heck the sound cuts out sounds like a machine gun

  • he uploaded it from a reel to reel

  • VERY ANNOYING...I haven't heard anything this ear-splitting and headache-inducing since back in the days of Industrial [Boyd Rice, Throbbing Gristle[!! Just WHAT is it that you hope to accomplish with this SHIT??!?!

  • Seriously? Did anyone make it past the record scratch sounds in the first 6 seconds?? Scared the crap out of my cat!!

  • Some Reggae Dude..?!? ha ha Watch Eddie Murphy's "Boomerang"

  • SOUND CHECK!!!!!!! CHECK CHECK ONE TWO THREE .. IS THIS ON?

  • ok am i the only person hearing a buncha crazy distortion??

  • @ShangoJamal No, you aren't. Perhaps file corruption?

  • pimpin' taint e z

  • Marvelous little things!!!

  • LOL "some reggae dude"... I remember Geoffrey Holder best as Punjab in "Annie"... I didn't realize it, but he also did the narrating for Charlie & the chocolate factory... among other things. Wiki him! He's maaaahvelous... HA HA HA HAAAA!

  • I love this commercial. Especially his laugh at the end. Never realized back in the day that the "uncola nuts" are actually a lemon and a lime.

It's too bad it never persuaded me to like 7-Up. We drank Bubble Up back then. 7-Up was what they gave you when you had the flu.

  • GOTDAMN I WANT SOME 7UP!

  • james earl jones called, he wants his voice back....lol

  • lmfao, good 1!

  • Did you notice his lips say sevem up? at :31. I miss this guy's 7 up commercials

  • Mr. Holder was also a Broadway mainstay I believe.

  • "some reggae dude"? how old are you?

  • @lynnk78 Let's face it...we're getting old...

  • ah I used to love these ads, he was maaaaahvelous!

  • Only Geoffrey Holder could make 7-up taste sexy.

  • This commercial (and the ones that followed) made Geoffrey Holder a national celebrity in the mid-'70s...

  • He's not just some voiceover actor!!! Geoffrey Holder, my friend. A creative genius.

  • this guy used to scare the shit out of me as a kid... ha!

  • He was the best Baron Samedi ever.

  • We use them of course to make the un-cola - Sevah Mup XD

  • his name is Geoffrey Holder and yesss he is still around enjoying life btw he was also in a bond movie if i remember correctly

  • He played Baron Samadi (The Man Who Cannot Die) in Live And Let Die in 1974. It was Roger Moore's first time to play Bond.

  • 7-up cherry is amazing!

  • Yah, 7-up tasted fresh and clean...before they switched the cane sugar for corn syrup.

  • Baron Samedi! :D

  • Chocolate rain, chocolate rain....

  • That parrot behind the guy looks dead lol

  • No, it's just resting...

  • This is an EX-PARROT LOL LOL LOL

  • This guy did all the narration for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Great voice.

  • My boyfriend, also from Trinidad, looks & sounds just like this guy & he LUVS "sevah nuhp"

  • HAHAHAHAHA!

Nasty Nelson lives. Seriously; he's an incredibly talented man.

  • 7-UP is quite refreshing right when it comes out of the bottle but in 10 seconds

its gone flat and gotten watery! Wish they could fix that !! Ahhahhaahaa!!!!!

  • I remember a 7-Up ad from the early 70s that was a spoof on the then popular Kung Fu TV show. Anybody here who can locate it and post it?

Also, in general it appears to me that 7-Up has lost tremendous market share since I was a kid then, when it seemed that it lagged in popularity only to Coke and Pepsi. I admit that I haven't had one in years.

  • Geoffrey is so nasty...look how he rolls and squeezes the fruit...LOL

  • I first heard about this man in the Robert Brady Museum in Cuernavaca. He was friends with Robert Brady and Brady painted the portrait himself.

  • Goeffrey Holder is the best! Geoffrey, you've given the world that unmistakable voice of yours! Christian, the world watches you dance with such fluidity. R.I.P. Boscoe... your art will always keep your memory alive. What a truly talented family!

  • AAhhh, classic! Thank you! God, that voice . . .

  • I'm looking for the 7up commercial that poked fun at David Carradine's "Kung Fu.

  • They need to bring back the original 7-UP. Why can't they sell the original and still market that "all-natural'' crap too? It worked for Coke in the 80s with New Coke and Coke Classic.

  • "some reggae dude"? It's Geoffrey Holder; the Baron Samedi from Live and Let Die...

  • HE IS NOT REGGAE, he's from Trinidad and Tobago

  • Geoffrey Holder.

  • he was the voodoo dude in Live and Let Die

  • What a great voice... he could say almost anything and it would sound good.

  • His name is "Geoffrey Holder", not "some reggae dude". And he's Trini. So u can change ur description now that u know :)

  • he's the grim from billy and mandy

  • i like his laugh

  • Baron Samedi You rat bastard ^_^

  • Goeffrey Holder.....hell, that man had sexy written all over him. A total class act!

  • Wonderful. Can't imagine a commercial these days using the phrase "je ne sais quoi"

  • a Class Act, a dancer, & a chef, among other things, mon.

  • the actors name is Geoffrey Holder-----he was in the ORIGINAL Dr Doolittle (NOT the Eddie Murphy remake) as William Shakespeare "Willie", played Punjab in the movie version of Annie, and most recently was the narrator of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp

  • and don't leave out his best role. Baron Samedi from the Bond film Live and Let Die.

  • oh hellz yeah how could i forget-----thats a great bond villain

  • Crsip and clean and no caffine ha, ha ,ha ,ha that is all that I remember who the actor was I don't recall! LOL

  • Attn: advertisers!!! Think up something

this crazy and catchy and I might buy

your product! Todays "Pop culture" is

to lame to adapt to any sales gimics!

    Think about it!...........=/

  • You look mahvelous!

  • When I think of 7-UP I still think of this. In those days, commercials were memorable, not just shocking for a short time.

  • This is classy! Nowadays, they'd just have Christina Aguilera deep throating a 7-up bottle with explosions in the background and rap music playing.

  • What she said....Marlyleroi has a way with words....thats fo sho....I love his laugh also.

  • This man just oozes charm, joie de vivre, wit and a rarely encountered self confident individual style that is pregnant with panache and class!

  • tha uncolh 7 mup

  • great vid

  • it's amazing how much advertising has changed over the last 50 years.

This ad would never get made today - not because of anything offensive, but because it's so different from today's ads. It's long and slow paced, has just one shot / mention of the product the whole time, and doesn't use sex to sell the product.

  • My Bad - Geoffrey it is....I still know him as "The Uncola Nut" guy anyway...

  • You all forgot that Godfrey Holder also appeared in the james bond movie "Live and Let Die" starring Roger Moore. Godfrey was the voo-doo priest that remains alive (of all villans) after the final train scene.

  • His name is Geoffrey Holder... not Godfrey.

  • These and his Coco-Casa spots were a treat when I was a kid then. He was always fun to watch. Swashbuckler was another fun movie he was in.

  • Wow, this actually makes me want a 7-Up. This may be the most (or only) effective ad I've ever seen.

  • Godfrey Holder can also be seen in Eddie Murphy's movie - Boomerang - which also starred Eartha Kitt, Robin Givens, Halle Berry, Grace Jones, Martin Lawrence and David Alan Grier...What a great movie that was!!

  • GEOFFREY! Not "Godfrey."

  • mmmmm 7up is still bomb. . . .

  • These ads were terrific. I still remember, "crisp and clean, with no caffeine".

  • There's something very soothing about this ad!

  • Brilliant ad.

  • his name is geoffry holder

  • CHOCOLATE RAIIIIN!!!

  • Is that Punjab from Annie? 8D

  • Yes.

Wow, an entire 1-minute spot for 7-up.

  • "Dee UN-cola, Sevem--mup! AH ah ah ah ah ah!"

    Absolute classic.

So after Coke changed their formula multiple times (all for the worse), 7-Up follows suit. Too bad.

    .g

  • PUNJAB__YOU GO BOY

  • I haven't seen an 7 UP commerical since they change the recipie for it. Has anyone else seen one?

  • They changed the recipie? That explains why it doesn't taste as good to me. I tried 7-UP for the first time in years a few days ago and it tasted stale. I thought it was just old cans, but the date on them was fine. It just didn't taste as good as I remember.

  • PUNJAB ON ANNIE>>>>

  • Geoffrey Holder has the COOLEST laugh!

    ("AHH-ha-ha-ha-haaa!")

  • I am drinking 7up as I am watching this, and dude, it sure IS marvelous!

  • dude that sounds like james earl jones...

  • Hehe, he wants to be the "new James Earl Jones".

  • no no no not at all. he and JEJ came on the scene at the same time so no "wanna be" here. totally different characters.

  • Oh sure, but watch the documentary, he makes a joke that "I would like to be the NEW James Earl Jones!" hehe.

  • my mom loves this commercial

  • I read that the original plan for this ad was to use a Sidney Greenstreet-type actor, but they completely threw that over when Geoffrey Holder auditioned.

I'd like to find some sugarless gum ads from the same time where Holder played an island tribal chief, and Jack Soo played an Eskimo - they're pretty funny.

  • I was just thinking of the same ad, was it Freedent they were hacking?

  • cola nuts along with a little cocaine mixed in for flavor

  • okay, does anyone else think that there is (sexual) subtext going on there? LOL i used to watch these commercials as a child but i never, ever heard them in the way that i'm hearing them now! ("wet, wild, all that!" LOL)

  • tay zonday?

  • This commercial has a whole different meaning to me now that I'm an adult.

  • Holder had the greatest laugh.

  • what? he passed away?

  • Saiyoudearimashitana-fair enough-notably the "Baron Samedi" from the 007 movie-I used to try an copy his laugh as a child (when i was around 5 or 6)

  • me too!!!! I was like 6 or 7. Ahhhhh hahahahahaha hahahahahaha! lol

  • I hate they changed the 7 Up taste...it used to be SOOOO good.

  • MsTexas - when 7up's taste changed I noticed they started using high fructose corn syrup - they're changing everything back to sugar, so stay tuned.

  • that's good to know...now if we could just get them all to bring back the cool bottles all the pop used to be in...like that classic 16 oz. Pepsi bottle...SKINNY...and the green 7-Up bottle with the bubbles printed on it.

  • Love the facial response he makes when he sips the drink. Delightful. What a character.

  • This commercial used to scare me when I was little--all because of the James Bond movie I saw him in...heheh. But at the time I had NO FREAKIN' IDEA there was so much INNUENDO in this commercial. It's like he's telling people to just go down on him...

  • Man I used to love this commercial! Thanks for posting!

  • This guy always scared the shit out of me... I was 3.

  • PUNJAB__ from orhpan Annie

  • My father was really good friends with Geoffrey Holder, the guy in this ad.

  • I love this guy's voice.

"Yes, sir, it's gonna be a beauuuuuuutiful day."

  • that's from Live and let die, after he sees Bond and Solitaire trespassing close to the fields where they grow the coke

I named my horse after him.

  • That's Geoffery Holder.

He was also Punjab in ANNIE.

  • If Baron Samedi says it then I have to lol

  • Yes, Baron Semedi had a long stretch of 7 up commercials around that time and they were the most memorable ones for that soft drink.

  • this guy was baron samedi in live and let die, 007 movie. Cool!!!

  • Is this where Billy Chrystal got his "you look maaahvelous" catch-phrase from?

  • No, Billy Crystal based the "Fernando" character on the actor Fernando Lamas. He go the idea when heard Mr. Lamas remark that he'd rather "look good than feel good".

  • The multi-talented Mr. Holder was the director, choreographer and costume designer for the 1978 Broadway musical "Timbuktu," a revival of "Kismet" transplanted to the West African empire of Mali in the fourteenth century. When presented with a Tony Award, Holder quipped, "Just try getting THAT out of a cola nut!"

  • Baron Samedi(the advertiser) wants me to drink 7up from a glass bottle again....

  • He also mixed an aphrodisiac in the movie-

'Everything you wanted to know about sex, but were afraid to ask"

  • LOL

  • This guy played a villian in James Bond LIVE AND LET DIE.

  • yes the legendary Baron Samedi-the man who cannot die! HA HA HA!

"goood morning boss,it's going to be a beautiful day,HE HE HE,yes a beauuuuutiful day..."

  • "Sebm up" xD He's so cool.

  • This actor was in Dr. Doolittle with Rex Harrison. I remember seeing that film in the theater when I was 10 years old.

  • yeah, he was also the memorable Voodoo villain Baron Samedi in the James Bond movie Live and Let die

  • I have always enjoyed 7-Up since I was a child, and I have always enjoyed this Gentleman's Commercials.

  • my cola nut.. is cosidered the best.. un cola nut.. simply mavolussss ha ha ha ha

  • I wish 7up would actually taste like he described

  • He has some rather large un-cola nuts...

  • "just try and get this guy our of

    cola nut?!"Hmm. Ha Ha!

  • ahhhhhhhhhhh

    i want some 7up

  • This is one of the most convincing commercials I've ever seen. I seriously want to go out and buy a 2-liter 7up now.

  • I've just sent the 7up company my bank details and told them to take what they want. That's how effective it was!!

  • Luke, I am your father!
