redd went on strike for more money. when he saw how popular grady was he settled very fast.

Redd Foxx left because the network would not give him a dressing room with a window , like other stars had , and he wanted to be paid the same as other leading stars in other shows..Sanford and Son was the #1 rated show on TV for a few years....During those years the racism was very evident in the TV world...

@freein2339 Yeah, I just read Demond's book, which describes the whole situation. Demond began at $1200 per show, increased to $1600. Redd began at $5,000 a show, which was not much even for then. I am glad things have changed, but it is always way better to be self employed.
