  • DP I think even a chimp could understand that. : )

  • Exactly right!

  • wow...

  • there must have been some period of interbreeding between the two population for some thousands of years, at first at least ...

  • @saadaya There was the theoretical possibility perhaps, but not the opportunity. Because of the geographical seperation. Which circumstance allowed for speciation.

  • I think you explained it really well. This is about as good as science gets on You Tube.....Thank you for sharing this & I hope you post more!

  • fuck you

  • umm we did this stupid thing in school and when this one kid read homo habilis he said homo hilbillys lol

  • Lol, he has a trinity life bible college shirt.

  • I hope you keep posting videos. Your a clever man with a high intellect.

  • Comment removed

  • You are so boring

  • Who is so boring?

  • I do hope you are not refering to the guy in the video.

  • i like how hes wearing a bible shirt

  • He is a clever man.

  • but who are you trying to fool, if you don't believe in evolution wannabeebee, you believe in creationism. as evidence of your trolling in the video: "hey glenn beck (part 2)" where you argue that i am a fucktard because i make creationists like yourself look stupid

  • How about just Homo?

  • love the beginning!

  • If we evolved from monkeys and all that stuff why are there still monkeys?

  • "If we evolved from monkeys....."

    No.

  • Its true we didn't evolved from monkeys if we did how come the monkeys living now dont evolve into humans????

  • Your right...What is taking you so long to evolve??

  • Taking who so long to evolve?

  • why do wolves coexist with dogs? But that's actually not the point. We didn't evolve from monkeys. Humans are ape-like and have a COMMON ancestor with monkeys, chimps, apes, orangutans, and bonobos(<-the closest to us). It remains to be seen what other species will evolve into. And although we know DNA is close b/w humans, chimps and bonobos(95-98%), we're still trying to figure out what differences remain in those gaps. Also nature is non-linear; one small change could be large in consequence

  • Whoever we said we evolved from monkeys?

Why would a monkey evolve into humans? They would have to experience the exact identical conditions as our ancestors for 100,000 years. This is impossible. The world is always changing. Unless it's in perfectly controlled conditions, you cannot expect to predict random mutation and its manifestation through natural selection.

Burn your bible. I promise, it's useless as a science book.

  • Isn't that just what he said? the parents can still exist even after the daughters change!

  • Yea but he also said that the homo hablis died and the homo erectus still lived

  • If Europeans came to America and are now Americans why are there still Europeans left, is in essence the same question except in a different context.

  • We didn't evolve from onkeys, we evolved from the same common ancestor as monkeys.

  • The same reason as why your parents don't die when you are born.

Now throw away your Bible. It's useless as a science book.

  • Umm no.

Why would i throw away either?

    I Am a christian that doesn't mean i don't like science.

  • The Bible certainly isn't a science book. But neither are "Webster's Dictiionary" or "Harry Potter". That's no reason to throw ANY of them away. By making stupid & offensive comments, you only display your own arrogance & lack of understanding.....You'll never convince anyone of anything, if you disrespect or offend them.

  • The intentional mis-education of science by religion relflects the ultimate arrogance.

Science, by deifinition, does not make claims about the supernatural world.

Not only does religion, but they also hold their scriptures as authority regarding the physical world.

"The Bible" does not belong on the shelf with any science book.

All of the common refutations of evolution that you hear are based on supernatural claims and religious misinformation.

    These misdeeds deserve NO respect.

  • You truly are arrogant........Please re-read my comment (& the 2 comments of yours which I referred to)....I said NOTHING in reference to "refutations of evolution".I referred to your offensive, stupid & bigotted statements, telling people to "burn" or "throw away" their Bibles.Your remarks are offensive to all Christians, including the MILLIONS who have no trouble whatsoever incorporating Evolution into their belief-system. Your ranting & rudeness won't sway anyone.

  • @Saibot00 Hey, dumbshit WE NEVER EVOLVED FROM MONKIES We evolved from our OWN line of primates, aka the Homo genus. and before that Genus Australopithicus. FUCK I hate how dumb people are.

  • @Saibot00 That is what my mom says. Clearly neither of you understand evolution.

  • @Saibot00 We didn't come from monkeys you twat! We came from Apes!!!! And if you don't know the difference between Apes and Monkeys then I'll have to tell your parents to send you to a special school.

  • @magmablood2 No.

  • @Saibot00 Actually to be more precise we are in fact apes.

  • Ok- this guy generally knows what he's talking about but his voice is soooooo annoying.

  • "Whatever is true because you said so....."

Idiot: reality doesn't give a shit what you WANT the world to be like. Grow up.

  • you realize religions are constantly made up

  • kindly explain that to me ?

  • I'd like to note that sexual attractiveness can alter a species sometimes with out it splitting. We see different kinds of males with in some insect species if I recall, which signify the beginning of a beginning species break off. Other creatures, like the ceratopsians of the cretaceous changed species rapidly with I believe no way to alienate a daughter colony of the parent species. I could be totally wrong but its a theory I hold and I know some others hold it.

  • If you see a flaw please be kind enough to point it out so I dont go around spouting more Dumb-Assery. Otherwise I'd just thought I'd point out another way for two species to actually be living side by side in the same valley perhaps but one is the ancestor of another.

  • what is the name of that song im gona get it on my ipod

  • "what is the name of that song im gona get it on my ipod"

Hi! I got the song from a YouTube video. If you do a search for " kent hovind fucktard" you will probably see a dozen or more videos with the song in it.

  • One of Darwin's major contributions was to show that "species" is a very loose concept. There is no essence or simple archetype that makes a species, it really is our way of categorizing things.

    Great video, as usual.

  • another creationist straw-man knocked down.

but that won't stop them from using it in shiny leaflets for their ignorant followers...

  • "but that won't stop them from using it in shiny leaflets for their ignorant followers..."

Damn those Watchtower magazines, they've changed my sisters, and more importantly my mum, into the typical creationist we associate with today.

Those bastard Jehovah's Witnesses oh me one big time.

  • I think the writer over-estimated how important every single detail of evolution. This would be like say, it being previous common knowledge that the night of Broken glass happened on November 9th 1938 but it turns out it actually happene on the 10th. You'd be like, "OK, whatever" and it would not lend any validity to the "Holocaust never happened" theory.

  • In other words evolution can not be falsifiable

  • Who said that?

  • Um, no. Evolution can be falsified. And it can also be misunderstood, as your comment demonstrates!

  • no, it's the article writer's understanding of evolution that was proven wrong. This discovery adds to our knowledge of evolution, it doesn't disprove it. It's like finding out more details about the Holocaust. Just because you add to previous knowledge it doesn't shatter everything. Ef every new discovery "Shattered" Science, progress would NEVER happen. You'd have to re-build the entire medicine industry every time a new cure was discovered.

  • "no, it's the article writer's understanding of evolution that was proven wrong."

EXACTLY. Evolution is not falsifiable: evolutionary theory is. The article's author did not understand evolutionary theory, even though accepting evoilution.

  • "In other words evolution can not be falsifiable"

Evolution is not falsifiable: evolutionary theory is.

  • I think I see the point you're making. "Falling" is not falsifiable. The theory of gravity is. But if falsified the theory of gravity would have to be replaced with a better theory that explained falling even better than the old one--like Newtonian physics being replaced by relativistic physics. So too a new theory of biological descent would have to explain evolution even better than the old one.

  • Its amazing how prevalent the simple minded notion the "If man evolved from ape, why are their still apes" is among the IDiots. Actaully the co existence of closely relate species seems to be the norm in evolution. For a short while, homo Sapeins, neanderthals, and erecus all co existed on earth (also h. florensis if it proves to be a seperate speices).

  • how did you get that song?! isnt that the "you're a fucktard arnt ya Kent?" song? I thought the cults had that one removed. How can I get it?

  • watch?v=mnZu9Gia5Tg

    Enjoy :)

  • 5/5 stars. well done as usual!

  • I think the author of that article had "coelacanthitis", the inability to understand how separate species can diverge from each other without one going extinct...

  • Well done and nice shirt.

  • I think that the mistake is likely due to the writers lack of knowledge and them looking for a snappier story than any creationist bias from the paper.

  • Great stuff. Creationists have been flaunting this find like it actually helps their case. At best this is used as a slightly more elaborate "if we came from monkeys why are there still monkeys?" arguement. At worst it's used so creationists can say "See! Science is wrong AGAIN!".

  • Great video there. I've made an educational video on speciation incase anyone wants to learn more. It's called "Evidence for Evolution: 5 - speciation".

  • A lot of reporters totally screwed up this story. I blame it partially on widespread scientific illiteracy, but also on the news media's craving for revolutionary news. Unfortunately the scientific method isn't exciting enough for most people, they need to invent revolutionary discoveries to spice up their content.

The depressing thing is I find the real unadulterated science intensely exciting. I'm so sick of seeing things watered down and altered to the point of incoherence.

  • Thanyou. Perfect explanation. You do the world a service. :)

  • "Thanyou. Perfect explanation. You do the world a service. :)"

And thank you! It is only a matter of time before YouTube deletes my account, I fear.

  • haha cool shirt!

  • Very informative, thank you.

  • I read this article and about had another heart attack...

  • "I read this article and about had another heart attack..."

Golly. Seems to me you should stop reading altogether. :-)

  • I checked the comments on that article. The lack of knowledge on evolution among the public is scary.

  • "The lack of knowledge on evolution among the public is scary."

Indeed, and the latest I read is frighting: someone wanted to know if the two species living together resulted in "different races today." Gods.

  • My understanding was that the criterion that defined a "species" was reproductive compatibility (I don't know what they do in the case of species that reproduce asexually). Under that definition, the different races of humans are pretty obviously still part of the same species. :-)

  • "My understanding was that the criterion that defined a "species" was reproductive compatibility ...."

Indeed, but "species" is still a human convention. What about organisms that reproduce asexually? Reproductive isolation is not a good enough definition for "species" when it comes to asexual organisms, but it is good enough for the sexual beasties.

  • Excellent as usual.

  • Evolutionary theory really is not that hard to understand, I just don't get how so many people can't get it.

  • I think a lot of people don't want to get it.

  • "I think a lot of people don't want to get it."

They mistakenly think that the truth about observed phenomena detracts from tgheir gods and goddesses. It used to be that faith was enough. Creationists don't have faith -- they want to pretend they have sceince because they NEED science. Yet science undoes them -- so we wind up with crime families like Hovind's.

  • I know. It is a vast subject but to understand the underlying principle isn't that difficult.

  • "Evolutionary theory really is not that hard to understand, I just don't get how so many people can't get it."

I see 3 reasons they "can't" get it. One it's a really scary thing for most people who grew up being brainwashed by religion to accept because it refutes their upbringing. Two, their only resource iw what they hear on TV because most are too lazy to look anything up. Three (and this is the most common reason) they are just plain stupid and/or ignorant.

  • "...I just don't get how so many people can't get it."

Perhaps the modern news-as-entertainment media is partly to blame; parents not knowing any better means they cannot teach their children, nor follow through on their children's education. I dunnot.
