  • really cool concept :) Nokia is not retarded as I used to think. Nice, keeps going, Nokia has his place ;)

  • It is understandable that a large corporation is somewhat inflexible. But getting paid on quarterly basis - another obstacle for smaller development companies who would expect faster return of their investment.

  • The video talks about Java Verified and creates a slight confusion regarding Ovi Store and Java Verified testing. Java Verified is not a requirement for Ovi Store just an optional testing. The requirement is that content is signed with content signing (Thawte or VeriSign).

  • Completely irrelevant to the content, but that's lovely music.

  • I don't get it. How will this be better than the new software coming up of the iphone, Iphone 3.0?

I've seen the presentation of the Iphone 3.0 software and it's impressive. Especially the push notification. And for instance the ESPN notification that a team has won and even shows the highlights in video.

What will make the OVI memorable? Maybe they already have what it takes to compete the Apple store, but they need to promote it more.

I want to buy the N97 with OVI but I need more info.

  • Nokia's S60 devices are open source systems.

Nokia doesn't choose what apps you want on your phone, unlike Apple does.

  • This will be better for several reasons. Nokia devices are the most powerful in the world. Convergence at its best. The main advantage is that it reaches millions more than any other device across the entire globe.

Developers also know that Symbian users are the power users of the world. Wanting a device that does it all. Apple dumbed down the phone for the average user. No one knows what power really is unless you've used a Nokia device running Symbian OS.

  • I was hoping that Java Verified will not be a requirement, we are signed by Verisign but a Java Verified process will make our production costs far more expensive which will end up costing to the users and hurting the platforms accessibility...

Please Nokia pay attention to the highest selling segment in the Apple app store: the $1 applications... This price point might not be feasible with Java Verified.

  • will it support Nokia 5800 ?

  • Yes. It will support most Nokia S60 and Series 40 devices.

  • I see. It isn't mentioned anywhere... that's why I asked. Do you have a link for the list of supported devices ?

  • There is no list, but Ovi Store should be available on all devices that have a "Download!" icon, so that includes the 5800.

At first Ovi Store will be available through Download!, but in June there will be a dedicated application for Ovi Store which is much easier to use. The N97 will be the first to have the dedicated app, then it will become available on other devices.

  • There is a list... Why do people keep telling "there is no" when they can not be sure? Sigh.

  • Hope this will effect the software pricing to more reasonable levels for the users. Also interesting to hear that Nokia has the prices preset.
