  • useless in real fight

  • because you never been to a real fight.

  • everything is effective if you realy learn it around 6 month even pinalty kick can kill some one

  • I do have some skills.

You have no idea what I do for a living. So don't assume the hallway is full of nuns.

Next time you get into a similar situation, please take the time to think about your options when it comes to responding. By the time you think of something, you'll be picking your teeth off the ground.

BTW, you did say that aikido was ineffective.

  • I earned a black belt in Nihon Goshin Aikido about 10 years ago. Due to a change of address, I've switched to Ba Gua Kung Fu. I used Aikido once walking out into a hallway full of people. Someone jokingly put their arm around my shoulder from behind. I had him halfway to the ground with an armbar before I realized what happened. That's what's good about Aikido, you don't have to pulverize an opponent to perform a technique well. I don't know much about Yoshinkan Aikido.

  • Right, when someone puts their arm around your shoulder (in a non-threatening manner), you can use Aikido to pin him.

In the street, when people are actually looking to hurt you, and are not just "putting their arm on your shoulder," Aikido is absolutely useless.

    Sorry, my man!

  • You react correspondingly

    My Man.

  • My turn. What reason did you have to even use the technique on the guy? He obviously didn't mean you any harm.

    My man.

  • You must be retarded. Someone walks alongside me, puts their hand on my shoulder without warning and I took the guy nearly to the ground (without permanant damage/another wonderful aspect of akido) and in the meantime, I'm supposed to somehow know he doesn't mean me harm. Touche asshole. You're the one that believes aikido is ineffective.

  • You talk about your wonderfully honed skill as if you were some kind of deadly aikido master. What reason did you have to feel threatened in that hallway of people? I never said aikido was ineffective, and from the way you respond to people I think it's more evident that you're the asshole.

  • You've never done any aikido so you don't understand how muscle memory works. Once you've done any martial art for a decent amount of time you'll start to understand.

  • I AM an aikidoka. The asshole talked about his "muscle memory" as if he were some kind of dangerous assassin. Muscle memory serves you in times of dire need, it's not there for you to use unnecessarily. Read the original comment before you respond, you rectum.

  • I have been practicing one martial art for over ten years. These guys are training their muscle memory to be ineffective.

  • FANTASIE!

  • You realize, Bruce Lee was an actor....

  • Yes, but he was also a martial artist who has often kicked some dumbass like you aikidiots and trained very hard day by day studying as much as possible about martial arts, training and so on.

  • ah very nice !

  • Thank you very much... very kind..

  • ahahahahahahhahahah! crap

  • Thanks for the comment.... you have to try this martial art... this, you have seen is just a part of a training... it covers many aspects... Ciao...

  • The concerns I have are that the ukes don't release their wrist grab as they are thrown. The second is that the punches are telegraphed and linger outward rather than snapping back, and third is the ukes charging. It seems aikido has no defense against a person who has trained basics in fighting: Sudden, hidden strikes. Lack of commitment until connection or just before (sometimes called flowing because it allows changing techniques.) Letting go if a grab doesn't work. Not showing intent.

  • Thanks for the comment. What you have said and observed are true. For me,as we examine the word aikido,(harmony-energy-study)is a kind of martial art that develop our sensibility, moving as a whole body, unified. This principle goes same in the part who defend and who attack.Thats why uke don't release his grip till the last moment,he needs to sense shitei.Second like the third,an attack has the intent to damage.Uke unifies w/ shitei & vice-versa.You must try it specially aikido yoshinkan.

  • I would if I could. Why do I never see a trade off of attacks or a flow of counter moves like one sees in many other styles? Even attacks can be harmonious if done well. What about if the intent to attack is not there, but the forceful attack happens anyway? It may sound laughable, but people with disturbed minds or people trained to behave that way do achieve that sometimes. I'm sure there are other similar types of situations.

  • Go to a dojo and ask to take part in a demonstration, then you can decide if it's effective or not.

  • I have. It was not effective.

  • @Yakshinian Really? For how long did you try it? Once? One week?

i really wish for you that you never have to face an experienced Aikidoka in a street/bar fight.

Perhaps it doesnt suit you. But simply stating its not effective makes you sound ignorant.
