  • September 19th 1989 was months before i was born

  • Football is a plain dangerous sport. I don't know why people always act shocked when these things happen. Yes, it's tragic. Would I wish it on anyone? No. But look how the fans in the stadium reacted. This incident appears to have incited a mini-mass hysteria. This is football, people! It's an injury-prone sport.

  • Asthma or not, a hard blow to the cheast can stop any heart - even the strongest hearts. You learn that when taking first aid classes.

  • Whats cardiac arest is that asma cause i hav asthma

  • @TrendyCoolGirl10 Cardiac arrest is when your heart stops beating.

  • I'd rather be red than dead? Yeah, if those were my options, so would I.

  • He'd be 41 now! insaneee

  • whats with all the screaming? they act like they're all being tortured

  • anyone find it disconcerting that when a person cries during an interview, they always zoom in.

  • William Shatner did Great Hosting This Show.

  • asthma can only stop u from doing things ONLY if you let it there is always a way to control it and still do what u love to do

  • i thought u could not have them if ur that young

  • 911 taught us that we can die doing virtually anything

  • i really hope this doesnt happen to a football player i know alot of football players

  • I don't have children so I cannot imagine what his parents went through. God bless them!!

  • I don't think they had inhalers in 1989 (at least not the super advanced 1s they have now)

  • @TheStarSorceress Sorry, 1986. The caption on the bottom messed me up (it said 1989)

  • @TheStarSorceress They had them. Those aren't new, and haven't changed.

  • I am sad !

  • I've never heard of a boy named McKenzi.

  • @breannluvsfrankie20 Look up Mackenzie Astin.

  • @breannluvsfrankie20 I know a Kid named MAckenzie xD.

  • I think this segment should've included a WWC when it orriginally aired, and 5:41 would've been the perfect place to throw it in!

  • "Why is this happening to him? Why not someone else?"

I wouldn't wish what happened to McKenzi on anyone!

  • jeez...what a horrible story...

  • i saw the band

  • i live a little more than hour away from springdale, good high school football program

  • @DorvellTStewart What is an inhaler going to do about cardiac arrest? Even if the kid had asthma, severe bronchoconstriction wouldn't come on that fast (the time that he was under the pile) nor was it long enough that it would have stopped his heart. It is unfortunate but hypoxia isn't what often causes young hearts to stop, it is either undiagnosed cardiac malformation or electrolyte imbalance.

  • @DorvellTStewart Sometimes those little things called inhalers don;t work or are lower than people realize and need a refill

  • @DorvellTStewart-you can take those and still have an attack. my sister has asthma and there are times that she still has attacks.

  • i mean if it is that big of a problem!

  • I have Asthma and I fight forest fires. Asthma isn't going to stand in the way of my life and who are you to say what someone with asthma is or isn't allowed to do?

  • @OneSkiWonder maybe with minor asthma some have it really bad

  • @sirkiller07 I have my own nebulizer at home, I'm on the highest dosage of Advair that there is and I've been diagnosed a severe asthmatic. Asthma DOES NOT rule my life and I will not allow it to! Everyone with asthma has that choice. My choice is enjoying life, what's yours?

  • @OneSkiWonder I think you're very right. I'm a sprinter with sports asthma and even with my inhaler I breathe harder than anyone on my track team or gym class. I want to do so well in track. I will not quit and not even this problem will stop me from trying my best.

  • If everybody thought like that then people that have asthma, like me, would have very miserable lives. If they can handle football, let them. I played basketball and soccer with asthma. I can do just about anything I want. They have such good therapies these days that asthmatics have less limitations than ever before.

  • When a 17-yr. old goes into cardiac arrest, it's most likely due to more than just stress. The person has to already be prone to cardiac or pulmonary issues to have a heart attack when he's that young.

Asthma is a pulmonary issue, but the lungs are directly connected to the right side of the heart. If you have a severe enough asthma attack, it's possible to go into cardiac arrest.

I worked in cardiac care and was an EMT-D (D for defibrillator) for a long time before I became a Paramedic.

  • I have a Rescue 9-1-1- situation I had a grandmal seizure at a parade which I am sure was caused by a breif shunt plug.

  • Just out of a matter of interest, does anyone know how many shows this story was featured on? I've seen it on Rescue 911 (obviously,) Real TV, and a show that only lasted a few weeks called "I'm Still Alive!" I'm sure it was on others, though.

  • that is so sad

  • There are quite a few guys with that name today as well.

  • Why the hell is everyone screaming?? When one of my high school's players goes down, everyone's really quiet. You could hear a pin drop there.

  • Have any of your players suffered heart attacks?

  • very true, no. didn't really think there'd be a huge difference. Sorry. I wasn't trying to be insensitive. ;)

  • You're not being insensative. I'd say it's more of a frightening thing if some goes down from a heart-attack as opposed to getting tackled. It depends, though.

  • I miss this show

  • shit a gold brick

  • this is considered a rare segment to me because its the only football segment also the basketball player collapsing is now on here by beatlemoe.

  • I've been trying to find that. What episode is it from?

  • #608 called "Fastbreak heartattack"

  • I LOVE watching your videos.

My favorite I suppose, is where the pregnant, lady, goes into cardiac arrest, and her Husband, Dusty takes her to the Hospital.

    What a cute baby.

  • Ohh my that is the sweetest thing how much those parents love their kid!

  • Omg!! That would be terrifying!

  • OMG, tell the people screaming in the audience to shut up! You'd think someone fired a gun at them... good grief!

  • The audience screaming wasn't helping anyone.

Especailly since the coaches were panicing because of it.

  • lol Maybe if someone had fired a gun at them they would scream as they were all running away, and then it'd be nice and quiet. lol

  • i remember seeing this on another rescue show other then rescue 911

  • Any idea what the name of the show was?

  • i dont recall the name of the show but i remember it as one of thoes one time programs

  • I seen this a few years ago on a FSN show call "You Gotta See This"

  • Damn, I Remember this one.

  • did you know there's a team in Rudyard also called BULLDOGS?

  • Keep these awesome videos coming.

  • Note: shatner uses the each week on RESCUE 9-1-1- quote on #101-#103.
