  • @kahetel13, I agree.

  • @ShredST: If you have to ask, you don't know them. Any good book on Tai Chi will give you a good introduction to them. What we're seeing here is wrestling, not Tai Chi. It's a shoving match, nothing more.

  • Nice. Another shoving match where all the principles of Tai Chi go out the window.

  • @panicpgh What are the principles of Tai Chi?

  • @panicpgh if this is Tai Chi, then Elephants do fly. rooting goes out the window and basically this is "Bull Chi" not Tai Chi....the masters of old would have decimated anyone trying to grab them., so much for liars

  • This looks to me Tai Chi is very similar with wrestling/judo, the shorter guy always have two underhooks, that is why he keep on winning, the tall should fight for those underhook so he can use his height as leverage

  • This does not look like tai chi.

  • wrestling?

  • I do not see the classics of peng, lu, ji, an, tsai, lieh, zhou, khau; zhan, nian, lien, sui. What the heck are the grabbings and holdings? Wrestling is the name that suits this game - definitely not Tai Chi Push Hands. Neigh...neigh...

  • @Devinchichichi

  • It looks like Traditional Turkish Grease/Oil Wrestling. =)

  • what if one of the players didnt allow the other one to get too close?then the pushing hads would look like pushing hands not llike wrestling

  • He is a good wrestler, but it is not Taichi. A good thrower does not mean skillful in pushhand. Never the less, his wrestling skill is pretty good even his opponent is not very good in wrestling, just all muscle and not much of skill. This is the problem of Mainland China's lack of understanding of real Taichi. Most of these Tai Chi tournaments are just a wrestling matches. Against a real "hard" opponent, if the person don't fall off right away, it is not Tai chi

  • He is a good wrestler, but not Taichi.

  • the taller guy was relying too much on his upper body. he was just too high.

  • Bing Bong Ting

  • I love it!

  • This has nothing to do with push hands. Maybe you should invite a Sumo wrestler to these competitions ...

  • @MasterShrsDisciple

Sumo is from China's Tang Dynasty. Shuai Chiao is even older. This is considered basics. Have to start somewhere.

  • this looks like jiu jitsu or shuai jiao, not push hands.

  • This is only strength power! Not the essence of Tai Chi or even Tai Chi pushhands.

  • This is wrestling, no push-hands here! Maybe change the title of your video?

  • Good sumo skills

  • tai ji is art, jing is strength in your body or muscle. tai ji is about timing and manipulate other strength, so they use this kind of excircise to gain understanding in strength so they can strike at right time and right direction in the flow of force. layman opinion.

  • im not impressed

  • your gay we arent impressed with u either

  • what the hells this .Kimbo gets their both ass kicked

  • Wonderful video!

    I want more!

    I got a question,

i had one time sparring with a wing chun guy!

I used pushing hand skills, but my middle part was hitted by that guy every time!

Any body teach me how to deal with wing-chun by using tai-chi?

  • What do you mean by "You used PH skills"?

You MUSTN´T think about principles while fighting, if you have really trained enough, your body will use them on its own.

When he hits the middle part of your body you have to use actions to avoid getting hit and then counter, but always spontaneously.

  • Comment removed

  • @bignipli start with boxing, then you can fuck with everyone....

  • Should it consider as what it should be for Tai ji?

  • the energie of transformation are not punching!

  • i speak the sensitive perception, you don't understand. the energie of transfomation is use in the old taiji or neijia quan. this is the higth level of taiji.

  • the shorter man more stable as his central point is lower, has an advan...:)

  • he´s simply better trained

  • to the untrained eye, yep looks like wrestling...Taiji players are known as stand up grapplers...it is much harder thatn it looks, thrust me.

  • this is judo or taiji ? WHERE IS THE ENERGIE OF TRANSFORMATION ?

  • @laurentgarciaatc to those who cannot read the description...it says that the tournament strictly forbid the use of punching and kicking, thus, many other alleys of Tai'chi was left unexplored in this match.

I'm sure if we tried say, boxing, against these guys it would be very interesting (not saying any style is better than the other).

  • Very nice wrestling, nice readinf of balance from the reader and rootedness.

  • Looks like garbage from Sumo and Greco-Roman wrestling. Shameful.

  • Great competition. Many people are brainwashed into thinking tai chi is something that you are going to move slowly and just touch your opponent and he will fly away. That's not going to happen with 2 equally matched opponents. tai chi has many wrestling and grappling moves in it. You won't learn that at a Chen seminar.

  • people, this is absolutely not wrestling.

  • That last throw was hilarious.

  • Camo pants got slammed!!!!! DAMN!

  • Nice tuishou competition!

  • thats wrestling

  • Quite interesting.

  • is that push hands or wrestling?

  • lol 1:50 he got jerseyed!

  • i like how they help each other up and do not appear to be too aggressive. most honorable. not like MMA.

  • right... u r just another little hater on the net.

  • @thinice2k in mma we do help each other and respect our opponent ,check my vid and you will see .if someone is not able to respect the other he will not be able to fight again becuz mma is built on martial art, even if we are aggressive

  • I see more wrestling than tai chi

  • hhe is a good one

  • really not bad

  • What are the rules exactly? What kind of grips are allowed?

  • Am I missing something? This looks like judo.

  • well, the movements does look like taichi. his bodymovements are moving at the motion of a taichi artist. However, there are just too many different style of taichi out there...maybe that's what confuses you.

  • His strenght and technique all come from taichi practise. his opponent is taller and probably stronger than him, but he is unable to throw him down or push him out of balance. You can't really see his bodymovement or technique because it is close combat wrestling(sanshou). If it was real combat from a distance you would clearly see his taichi technique.

  • Tou shou (push hands) is not the same as sanshou. Too many people get the two confused.

  • This is wrestling and not very good wrestling. A good olympic class free style wrestler could easily take this guy down.

  • Totally with U.If they are not able to perform real sensitivity, wrestling is far better.

  • I agree that these guyes are not olympic class athletes. But on the other hand they are clearly not in the same weight division, and it would be interesting to see how a sportsman would handle someone that much larger and stronger.

  • crap...

  • looks more like bad shuai jiao to me

  • These 2 players suck and disgraces Taiji. Its better that they go and participate in wrestling instead.

  • If you could point me to video of better taiji I would be interested, because the video above is far and away better than anything else I've ever seen on youtube.

  • I only goes to show that Tui Shou competition needs overhaul. What we are seeing in competition today have mispplaced the original intention of Tui Shou.

  • and i'll bet next you'll tell us the original intent of tuishou

  • No-lah, not going to do that, I am sure you know enough about push hands.

  • Agree and disagree. Taiji push hand is not designed as a form of competition; it original intent is to practice "understanding your own & listening your opponent's force". Once the listening skill improves, Taiji practitioners should start doing sparing exercise.

  • You are right on all accounts. In fact it more fun doing it as a practise than competition.

  • @denzuko1 Not really younger people need to test the skills.

  • The stout man has real tai chi grappling skills. Those of you who think otherwise are clueless.

  • what is this? taijiquan? i can laugh my ass out. this isn't real at all. this is a fake

  • This is tragic for taijiquan when people think push hand can only be graceful when the persons are not competing. If people have the chance to see real masters who do it the without strength way, they known the power of taiji. i don't think the 2 guys can stand top wrestlers or other martial art fighters.

  • amazing real tai ji quan

    from Italy

  • It's interesting that push hands competitions often end up in something resembling san shou. I guess it's closer to a real fight in that most folks in a real fight go for holds on the body especially if they are not striking.

  • push hand ends up to wrestling cause it is a competition instead of training to find out the weak points of your opponent and yourself. If people is so eager to fight, try free hand not push hand!

  • Red Sash Man trains hard for this!

  • The taller person isnt that good at sinking the core to avoid loosing balance... This is the same problem that alot of taller wrestlers endure b/c they arent used to "dropping their weight." That's how I got alot of slams during high school wrestling...

  • shuai jiao

  • Where's the push hands?

  • Judo-Taichi

  • Awesome technique my man!!!!

  • man in white keeps trying unbalance the green pants man. the green pants man doesn't using push hand skills but wrestling. besides, what the the green pants man using obveriously is 外家拳

  • This is definitely more like wrestling than push hands. I mean where, in this video, do we see the merits of the standing post training? These men have a good start with the push hands until they lock up and start wrestling for the ground, when a good internal martial artist would just sink low into his stance and use his body to throw a guy like that away.

  • Unfortunately it isn't that easy. "Just" sinking and throwing can be difficult. And the merits of standing post aren't shown by standing still as you might expect. This is moving push hands, not stationary. The smaller guy is actually quite skilled and taijiquan DOES have shuai jiao technique, so this is a legitimate expression of taiji. Think of all those throws in the applications.

  • This is wrestling...they are not pushing hand at all... you can just tell.

  • What I can tell is that you have no idea what real Taiji looks like. Taiji IS wrestling.

  • I do and it looks nothing like this. Please tell me where in the taiji texts and classics does it say that taijiquan is wrestling? To say that just disregards the rest of the art. I suppose JKD is just boxing then? How did an art where Yang Lu Chan was known to draw blood with every step end up like this? Grand Ultimate this is not. It's ego based competition. fine, if that's what floats your boat. Push hands is meant to be a training method with both people learning principles.

  • Perhaps my comment did not do Taiji as much justice, but much of Taiji is wrestling. I was reading somewhere that it wasn't until early to mid 20th century that Taiji was considered to have a lot of strikes in it.

When people think of wrestling, of course you think of moving people around in what looks like a forceful way but really isn't. People who talk they way you do have limited experience working with uncooperative opponents.

  • taiji might look very pretty when you see people doing the form. but this is freestyle push hand. this is wat it looks like when you use it for fighting. It is ugly but practical.

  • unless you are frikin amazing at it anyways, the masters look slightly more... elegant, depending

  • Wow.. you can really see the principles of taijiquan here can't you. Push hands is not a competition and this is wrestling. Where is the sticking, adhering, connect and following. Subtle power? no where to be seen.

  • Seriously thought, this is more like wrestling than Tai Chi...

  • cool

  • what do pushing hands training for ?

These kind of competition are ignorant of Taichi. The organisor simply distorted the meaning of taichi pushing hands or they even don't understand chinese martial arts at all.

They are just created a new kind of meaningless sports.

  • Bullshit, that's what they do in China and it is part of taiji and it is good for understanding some things !

  • wat to u understand? taiji or judo?

    -.-

  • wat to u understand? taiji or judo?

    -.-

  • someone do this in China does not mean it's taichi. If you treat this as part of taichi training, i'm 100% sure you will not be able to fight by TaiChi thru your whole life.

  • I am shure you are a graet master of internal gong-fu. That you can judge people just be reading there comment. But i will tell you why i think it should be part of the training. I think it helps you to understand how you can afect other bodys by useing youre entire body. It shows you leaks of realaxing you have, and its a great way to prepare free-pushhands without the dangerous of big injurys. Its perfect to lose feare of oponents. Just because some people use tomuch strength dosn´t mean it is

  • a bad methode. Taiji is a prinzip and you can put this prinzip in everything you want to.

and its not somone who does it its every biger Taijischool in China, and in many other countrys of the world. I have trained for half a year in chenjiagou, and it is at least 3 houres doing this. One point i forgot is that it is helping you to get a feeling for Fa li.

You are insulting chinese martial arts.

  • What a great and constructive comment.

    Thank you for that.

  • absolute agree!

  • This is a great example of Taiji skills in a competitive arena. Thanks for posting. It's still amazing how some people have a distorted image of what competitive push hands should look like. Noncompetitive push hands in a learning environment is one thing, but the competitive arena has limited rules and the expression of Taiji within these rules looks pretty much like this.

  • this is wrestling.... not taichi push hand

  • maybe the practitioner is using more of force rather than soft yielding and skills. However, to correct some comments below. Tai Chi is a COMPLETE system. It has certain techniques similar to shuai jiao, white crane, throws, joint locks, and strikes that seem similar to even karate and shaolin (if u look at some chen style movements).

  • Kung Fu is inside your body. Taiji is Kung Fu also.

  • Actually the winner has pretty good tai chi skills.. The bigger dude didnt have a chance!

  • taiji's essence is chinese wrestling(shuaijiao)...unfortunately, in combat, taiji is not as effective as chinese wrestling. Any average wrestler can win in a taiji push hands competition without learning one-hour or taiji.... sad but true.

  • typo... Any average Shuaijiao fighter can win in a Taiji push hands competition without learning one-hour OF Taiji. It is a bitter and hard-to-swallow pill for most Taiji people out there...

  • nice try ashwix, but in 1970 60 yr old taiji master huang xingxian defeated the 40 yr old champion wrestler liao kuangcheng 26 throws to 0. liao kuang was also 10kgs heavier than huang but still couldnt touch him. wrestlers have no chance against real taiji players.

  • word. "???? ????"

  • If this is taiji push hand than i would rather watch Sumo, Judo or western wrestling.
