I much prefer the plain old Turbo version. I cant stand the butchered music in this one...it almost sounds like a Genesis (god help us) and the sound effects in general are so different, sounds cheap and compressed compared to Turbo.
Hyper Street Fighter 2 was in asia and japan only but you can play it on the street fighter anniversey collection with street fighter III 3rd strike on the X-Box (original) and the PS2 . i think super turbo was less cheesier than this one because it had every thing what this one was missing like super combos and akuma ,etc i mean when i played both super and super turbo i was like whats the whole point of calling it super if theres nothing "super" about it you know
Yeah, some people will like plain SF2 & Turbo edition, because Super does have a slightly different look and sound. I've been playing the arcade versions a lot recently, and I also prefer plain old SF2, because I like the look of it more and the music. Of course it's slower and more limited, but it's still my fave.
I did love Super on the 3DO though. The CD music is awesome on that.
Sorry, you're obviously not intimate with the series. First off, Championship Edition was MUCH more than adding 4 new boss characters to control, it was about playing the same character against each other... I could go on, but it's pointless. You've obviously never played against another REAL human being. THAT is what this game is all about, it's NOT about playing against the computer all by yourself...
Actually responding to a couple things you said in the video. Super didn't come out to 3DO, that was Super Turbo, also Champion Edition didn't just come to Genesis, that was Special Champion Edition which included both CE and Turbo games as two different "modes". Street Fighter 2 Turbo on SNES was the same thing, "normal mode" in that game is actually Champion Edition.
I disagree this is totally worth picking up for the SNES or any system really. In some ways making any releases of Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 2 Turbo. IMO the 4 extra characters really complete the game.
i think the audio took a hit in the home ports of SSF2 because the size of the carts. in the original SF2, there werent as many stages or characters so there was more room to have more detail.
In terms of pure gameplay, i wouldn't pick this game up and play it considering the countless of superior ports that has been made after this game was released. But still, i gotta say it looks really good considering it's a SNES game. That's for sure. =)
Great review! I havent played this one, I've played the Turbo version at my cousin's when it came out, I would always struggle to defeat Ken and Ryu and I could never be able to do the special attacks, so I guess this girly version would of been less frustrating back then lol, but I enjoy playing it now for the nostalgia :)
Just a few things, as well as speeded up gameplay, SSF2 Turbo also instroduced Akuma as a hidden character. The Super games also had slightily different endings to the first SF2 titles and Hyper Street Fighter 2 wasen't out in the arcades, as far as I know. I believe it was just a new console port (For the PS2 and Xbox) to celebrate Street Fighter's 15th Anniversery.
@academicninja Well if you seen and played it, then that proves it was in the arcades. I wasen't sure if it had been an arcade game, I thought at the time that it was a console exclusive.
It's amazing when you think that a 1991 game has only really had a few had tweaks to get to where the franchise is in 2010, but the core gameplay is the same.
I do think if you are a hardcore SF2 fan SSF2 on the SNES was a worthy upgrade though the music did sound an awful lot better in the original games. I can only assume the extra characters took up more EPROM space than the SNES could at that time take.
A very nice review though man, this is why I subscribed in the first place ^_^
Also, the punch and kick sounds are all the same( i realized that when I got the game when it came out.) for example, in the first sf2 for snes, the light kick would sound different from the medium and heavy one. they had to sacrifice some stuff though, to fit the new things
See how much superior the SNES sound is! God i hate that awful grinding on the megadrive some people like that midi sound but i hate it. You can also tell the difference in sounds greatly in Rock n Roll Racing for both SNES and Megadrive.
My fav is Super Street fighter 2 Turbo, Akuma is in there and it added a few new moves and abilities like super combos.
Wiki says "The game is also noticeable for its extremely high difficulty level in one-player mode".
I completely agree!... Man, i follow your channel since a looooong time ago! Thanks a lot for youre time making this videos, I realy enjoy them! (And I´m sorry about my english!) =)
The main thing for me, even with playable bosses, I did not like SFIITurbo as much as SFII, but with 4 new characters added, along with Ryu's Flaming Fireball - Ken's Flaming Dragon Punch - Super SFII was my favorite on SNES.
With so many SFII's, it made SFIII that much more anticipated. Though Capcom then had to come out with Double Impact and Third Strike for SFIII.
Then within a relatively short period of time Capcom once again comes out with a Super - this time of Street Fighter IV.
This game has that 90s feel to it. Its very universal in some way, and its probably one of the games i can remember the 90s by just looking at it. I wish i could watch Capcom create this game, unfortunately i was only 2 years old at that time but it would be awesome to see them create this back in the 90s and witness their ideas and visions.
was thinking about getting the "Street Fighter Anniversary Collection" on ps2. i used to have streat fighter 2 on snes but don't know what happened to it.
Capcom is the biggest offender on releasing minimal content, for maximum profit. They are still doing it to this day with Super street fighter 4, Resident evil 5 just to name a couple.
So sad too, the games are great...but I don't think I can support the minimal content for maximum profit action.
The Street Fighter CPU hates my fighting style. It simply destroys me every time I fight it. I know all the moves and I still get powned by Baison or Ryu. I think its too slow and power move heavy. I'm not really sure what is happening but the computer seems to just wait for me to do something then does the opposite to knock me down. After that I never really played it again unless it was VS people.
This port was a big disappointment and a waste of time, IMO. Again, Capcom saw fit to drastically change the music and sound effects from the arcade version (I'm not talking about the voice). The game suffered from bouts of slowdown not present in the arcade or Genesis/MD versions. Possibly the biggest blow was the fact that Super SF 2 X (Turbo) was already available in the arcade and it was a much better game.
Good video Jake! i agree with every point you made in this version of street fighter 2, and the difficulty level of this game was way dumb down, just seeing how quick you beat M.Byson and Vega alone showed that! lol, i remeber both those bastards taking me a better part of a half hour to beat sometimes longer because they were extremely hard to face!
In a original effort to improved the sound quality from the the original II and turbo SNES versions, the end result I personally see the sound as quite poor and worser than its predecessors, the previous made full use of the SNES capabilities, whilst this version really strained it.
it wasnt just a speed option on super turbo, they added akuma (but one new character is a little cheap) and every character got a super combo move, although, personally if all those were added to ordinary super, i think it would have made it a much better game and worthy purchase even if you already owned turbo
I think this is the best version of the game on the SNES simply because it has the largest roster of playable characters. I agree about the music and sound effects though. You should hear the music on the Genesis version of this game though. Absolutely god awful. Pretty much ruins it. Which is odd because "Champion Edition" on the Genesis actually has really good music. Go figure.
@misterintellivision Yeah nice eh. Funny thing with SF2 is it already had small black bars on top and bottom of the screen. I only had to stretch it a small amount to fill the sides so it wasn't noticeable.
