The Father Drove these for a long time!!!!

I had a few opportunities to sit in these while he drove them to Dublin and when he had to collect an engine from repairs.

ill never forget the sound of those trains going under the railway bridge on kylemore road dublin 10 i used to live about 8 houses down from the bridge

There are still some 141/181s in service, but I think they're being gradually withdrawn.

Funny enough, they were all dirty in those days, and to see a clean loco was really something big! Of course nowadays things are a lot cleaner.

I see what you mean by the overdue wash! However, underneath that dirt are the best maintained locomotives in the world. Your country has one of the most professional maintenance works anywhere in Inchicore, Dublin. Normally, the life expectancy of these locos is 15-20 years max, but these ones will soon be hitting the 50yr mark, and still ticking over like a watch! CIE pioneered the technique of oil analysis to detect engine problems long before they happened, saving millions in costly repairs

sadly the 141 and 181 locos are largely a thing of the past now ( this was filmed in 1994/95) . sadly the rancid railcars have taken over .

the locos left are 071's and modern 201s . thanks for filming this . it is really good to see the 141 and 181 class locos again .
