Hi Elmify, I truly enjoy your videos to the full extent, and I would like to start making vlogs (not like yours, with the happy dressed-in-white Elmify and the I-hate-everything 15 year- old Elmify, but just... a vlog). Can you tell me what software you use when you edit your videos? Thank you! (By the way I hope this doesn't come across as spammy. I didn't mean for it to be like that, if so.)
@NearlyPublished Hi, no prob! I use iMovie 8 to edit. It's kind of an old program, comes on apple lap tops (and my lap top happens to be pretty old!) :D
My friends stated you looked great in the swimwear. I non-concur-I think it looked great on you. Anyway, I do share your hatred for graffiti. However, what really riles me is the in corrects
I once did a presentation about Seaside in an architecture class, but I only remember that it was the setting of The Truman Show...and that was only after you mentioned it in your video.
This video is really odd for me to watch, because in England, going somewhere near the coast is called 'going to the seaside'. In your video, it's actually the name of a place. Really difficult to get my head around.
Seaside! Oh my gosh, I love that place! We go there all the time. Just today I was told to think of my happy place and i thought of Grayton, a town near there. :)
Okay, I just had a rather embarrassing fangirl moment. Normally I am a composed 26yr old woman, but when I saw the shot of the cakes and noticed the water bottle I grabbed mine, waved it at the screen and squealed 'I DRINK THE SAME WATER AS YOOOUUUUU!' As I'm in England apparently that is an important thing for me. I apologise.
I'm fairly certain I had a dream about seaside.... it was canada and the sewa was beautiful and school was really posh and looked the same - I've never seen it before. hmmm...
I live in Panama City Beach. Its about twenty or thirty minutes from seaside. I just felt like I should let you know how close you were. It makes the world seem less enormous :) Also, where is the cake from? it looks very familiar.
You should be responsible for "Come and visit the American Coast!"-TV-Spots, i bet the states would gain loads of european tourists! I'm convinced for sure.
(But maybe you should clip the just vaguely like natural food looking so called "cake" out which is rapped in so much plastic, most people here don't like these ;) )
The end of your video, it was sublime :) The poetry was lovely, and you worked it in there beautifully. I especially loved the use of the phrase "the ringing of the bell" - just wow, I currently feel very elmified.
How do you come up with this stuff? I mean, I tend to think in an appreciative manner like you do, but I could never describe it. I'm forced to keep those thoughts in my head as they always come out in a rambly mess.
Great video! I've lived in North Florida, the other coast, for my entire 29 years of life and have never heard of Seaside. Thanks for sharing! I think it's worth a trip.
hey kiddo! Do you read old comment posts on your videos? I was doing a thing for Sxephil's LTA Movie Club when I thought, "I wonder if Elmify has ever seen 'Harold & Maude'? Bet she would love it."
O! Also since you are going into the medical field, I wonder if youve ever seen Emma Thompson's amazing film, "Wit". Anyway, just wondering. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! :)
Nice piece. I've always thought places like Seaside to be a noble experiment in the benefits of Neourbanism. As much as it gets criticized for its Disney-like perfection, the way I see it, approaching the built environment with careful planning and attention to detail is an antidote to the cacophony of the regular built environment everywhere else in which absolutely nothing has been planned to work together and most everything is a monument to thoughtlessness (at best) and bad taste.
Whoever decides to graffiti something with their number and name is obviously looking for people to call them, so it's a bit hypocritical to ask to have your name withheld. Unless of course the person's number changed, which would suck for the new owner of that number.
i feel weird saying this on an elmify video (cuz your videos are always just so FUNNY), but this was beautiful. awesome work, *insert real name here* :)
Fall break? What, are you a Jewess? I didn't think anyone but us got fall break. I mean, how do you justify that? Other than, "this is when the ancient Israelites used to celebrate the harvest in a country 6,000 miles away, so I'm taking off for the month"? Not that I'm accusing, just wondering how it doesn't cause scheduling issues.
More relevantly, Seaside really looks beautiful, and you are a very good writer and speaker.
@Imitorar Most colleges and high school in America have fall breaks... I've lived in Indiana and St. Louis and I've always had one. It is a way to give students a break and most schools use it to divide semesters in half. It marks the end of Midterms at most colleges.
@Anameleth13 It really has nothing to do with what you were talking about. They just like to give kids a few extra days off. It generally lasts 5 - 10 days depending on where you go. Not the whole month.
Huh. I'd never heard of that. It isn't given at any of the colleges I'm familiar with. Except for Yeshiva University, but rhat's a Jewish college. And Jews have so many holidays between September and October that we're effectively unable to work for an entire month. Hence my reference to ancient Israelite harvest festivals.
@Imitorar Yeah, it might just be an American thing. We also have a spring break in the spring for no reason. It's not at the same time as Easter break, nor is Fall Break at the same time as Thanksgiving (another American holiday). It's not a month long thing, mine was only 4 days long. Hope this helped :)
@Imitorar Oh. Sorry. I guess I just assumed since you said "county 6,000 miles away." But I guess you were just talking about Israel in general. Um. Maybe it's just a public school thing or whatever.
When the sun is setting and all the shadows are really long, I like to pretend that I'm wearing stilts and that's why my shadow has such ridiculously long legs.
My dumbass friend called the #... (i said not to but she did not listen) and shes like "hullo?" and my friends just like "your famous..!" and hung up... :D
Every time I watch one of your videos, I always just get a warm fuzzy feeling. At first I thought it was gas, but then I couldn't stop smiling and realized it was you. I never want to stop smiling, so never stop making videos. :D
I have the amazing privilege of living in a cozy seaside town, much like Seaside. After watching this video, I find that I take it for granted far too often. I live a couple miles from the Atlantic Ocean and I sometimes forget that there are many people who would kill to have been able to grow up where I have.
Thank you for helping to remind me of how beautiful my home is, as well as making another lovely Thoughts From Places-esque video. I always love your insightful narration.
I should not have watched this while hungry. "You can get grilled cheese from an airstream, and you can eat cake on the street in the middle of the day." I literally whimpered and said "WHYYYY". My own personal Seaside is called Manteo, NC, and I always wanted to live there year-round, but I've wondered if maybe its perfection would be tarnished by normality and mundanity if I had to spend my time there working and worrying and all that.
I watched this video literally two hours after watching The Truman Show for the first time! I'm glad I fell behind on my YouTube subscriptions, because had I watched this video even just earlier today, it would not have been the same.
I wish that when I looked at beautiful things I could be as eloquent as Elmify... I generally seem more like a 5-year old on Christmas speaking elvish and no one has any idea what I'm excited about...
You have the amazing talent of appreciating the here and now, and are also blessed with the ability to eloquently describe your thoughts on such matters. You give me hope for humanity.
Also: "..or the cover of a Jack Johnson album" made me spit my coffee on the floor!
I know exactly what you mean, I used to go on the same vacation with my grandparents every year, and I really like going back to that place, because I like seeing the change in myself, and that only works in a place that always stays its faithful self :)
btw: I would def write my name on jake gylenhaal if I met him.
Such a lovely video. I love what you said about sunsets. Sometimes it's really easy to forget how noteworthy and special fleeting things are just because they are momentary.
I learned years ago that the reason everything turns reddish at sunset is because the sun's light is being bent in the atmosphere. Some people say science takes away from beauty but knowing this has only made the sunset that much more breath-taking to me.
@elmify i just feel u would make such a good video about the park saying how people escape into this fantasy land and stuff...ur trip videos always make me smile...my brother lives in chicago and i showed him your video about it and he loved it, u just seem to catch the essence of wherever you are and present it soo....perfect
Marion, Massachusetts is my favorite place. I've only been there once, but I get the same feeling there that you get in Florida. If I had millions of dollars i could buy a house there...
Just an FYI: Unlike the people that wrote on your nice spot.... you really should ask before writing your name on something that isn't yours... like a very pretty man you mentioned. Just sayin'... he might not appreciate it if you suddenly scribble your name on his arm or something. I know I'd be a bit miffed.
Hi Elmify, I truly enjoy your videos to the full extent, and I would like to start making vlogs (not like yours, with the happy dressed-in-white Elmify and the I-hate-everything 15 year- old Elmify, but just... a vlog). @elmify i just feel u would make such a good video about the park saying how people escape into this fantasy land and stuff...ur trip videos always make me smile...my brother lives in chicago and i showed him your video about it and he loved it, u just seem to catch the essence of wherever you are and present it soo....perfect

I wouldn't want to live in a bubble if it wasn't going to be temporary.

If you could just narrate the rest of my life everything would be a lot more beautiful.

The way you write/narrate your Thoughts From Places always gives me chills. Are you doing nanowrimo? I'd love to read something you've written!
