  • 9. sounds like an Italian singing an Italian aria in its German translation, how stupid is that, it is not even a baritone

    10. very bad recording quality, but the tenor sounds like Björling

    11. I do not like the tenor.

    12. Theo Adam?

    13. ?! Björling?

    14. kinda nice

    15. ... why, really

  • 1. Cura, he does Otello atm in my home city. This is dreadful I must say, he used to be great, but now his high voice is messed up and he has developed a wobble.

    2. ?

    3. ?

    4. Melchior before he became a tenor

    5. Schmidt, one of my favorites, a bit out of his rep ;-)

    6. ?

    7. ?

    8. Domingo. A bit too much piano for my taste.

  • Aspetti un attimo. Il n°11 è molto strano. La pronuncia dei due cantanti è completamente identica. come è possibile, è forse uno scherzo?

    Il n° 15: Alagna. ;)

    Ciao

  • Allora proviamo... 1. Come è brutto, come abbaglia. Cura, uno senza cultura, un barbaro. 2. Gobbi nel film di Gallone 3. Merli 4. 11. Nessuna idea. James King? 12. No sé... 13. Bjoerling molto giovane 14. Rosvaenge? 15. Un pazzo!
  • I can tell that you are a true connoisseur, great ear! Melchior started out as a baritone!

  • 1. It's ridiculous Cura! 2. No Baritones! But, I think it's Gobbi 3. doesn't sound so big! Penno? 4. Tenors only:( 5. Schmidt 6. My Favorite:) Svanholm!!! 7. di Stefano. not a real Otello! 8. Have 2 say Domingo. Not long enough buddy! 9. Tenors... 10. Tenor does sound like Bjoerling. Soprano...? 11. Jess Thomas is Alvaro. Carlo? Not interested:( 12. Tenors please:) 13. • 1. Cura

    2. Gobbi

    3. Merli

    5. Schmidt

    7. Di Stefano

    10. Simionato and Bjorling

    14. Slezak

    15. Stephan Zucker!!!!

  • 11 - Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as Alvaro?

The rest I have to think over....

  • 1- Is so bad that probably is Cura.

4- Is so bad that probably is not Melchior. Never hard him so bad.

    5- Schmidt (easy)

    6- Svanholm (again)

    10- Simionato and ?

    12- Greindl.

    13- Björling (very very young)

  • This was so funny. I love your sense of humor.

  • Then guess who singers are ;)

  • This was unbelievably hard, but fun. If I get 30% right, I'd be happy.

    #1 José Cura

#2 Ferruccio Tagliavini (but almost certain he's Russian, but not Sergei Lemeshev).

    #3 Francesco Merli

    #4 Melchior

#5 Josef Schmidt (most distinctive voice ever recorded)

  • #6 Francesco Tamagno (you said crepuscular, and he was retired when he was in the twilight of his career and ill when he recorded it)

#7 Giuseppe di Stefano (as Otello!)(the clue is the triskelion, the symbol of Sicily, where it's called a trinacria; tricked me).

    #8 Placido Domingo

#9 John McCormack (joking, no idea!)

#10 Elisabeth Rethberg and Sydney Rayner

  • #11 Hans Hopf and Richard Crooks (wrong and wrong, but certainly sounds like Hopf)

#12 Kurt Moll (not DFD or Prey (too heavy), Frick is close, but still not heavy enough. Has to be Moll).

#13 Stefan Zucker after too much champagne. He sounds so bubbly! They should give him champagne more often.

#14 Stefan Zucker after too much chocolate.

#15 Nicolai Gedda, a bit drunk, but in fabulous voice.

  • 1. sounds like a very bad indisponated Cura. But I think it's Nucci o O Neill

    2. Lauri Volpi o Fernando de Lucia

    3. Merli

    4. Melchior (he really speaks a bad german!)

    5. Björling

    6. Del Monaco piu di Vickers :)

    7. Sicilia ?! could be only Di Stefano!!

    8. Domingo in a pirate copy?

    9. no german: Roswange o less Kiepura

    follows rest

  • Rest follows? ;)

    We are waiting, Schätzchen ;)

  • 1. Cura

    2. Tagliaviini

    5. Schmidt.

    7. Di stefano.

    8. Domingo.

    10. Scilian? Di stefano but sounds like Bjorling and Scotto or Tebaldi.

  • I am struggling to detect who might be the Wolfram...could it be Hotter on a very bad night?

  • No no, the Wolfram is a bass, I am pretty sure. Maybe it is Greindl.

    #2 sounds like Gigli.

    #5 Herbert Schachtschneider

    #6 Giovanni Martinelli when old

    #7 Placido Domingo

    (...)

    #15 Ole Hansen?

Uhmmm, really a tough quiz. I'd looove to know the answers. Dinner time now! Bone appetit.

  • I don't have to repeat all the correct answers, but:

    12. Björling in half voice at the age of 21.

    15. One of Tito Schipa's most successful students...

  • Since everybody posted different answers, please tell me the correct ones.

  • That would end the fun...

Please Imogenn, tell which singers are discovered already (even without naming) and tell the topgun scores...

  • Estaba hablando a "18Z19", quien nos hablaba de repuestas "correctas".

  • OK. De alguna manera me salen desordenadas las respuestas...

  • My goodness Imogen, these are so difficult to identify. My only fairly certain ones are: 4) Melchior 5)Schmidt and I'm certain #7 is the marvelous 'Siciliano' DiStefano. But whomever #1 is,it is some of the worst operatic singing I've ever heard. Mille grazie Imogen for posting these wonderful quizzes, they are greatr fun !

  • Turiddu may be Bjorling.

Don Alvaro's timbre is alike Fritz Uhl's...

As for the Wolfram, Eberhard Wächter?

  • 1. Jose Cura

    2. Tito Gobbi

    3. Merli

    4. Melchior

    5. Schmidt

    8. Domingo

As for the rest, I haven't the foggiest idea!

  • If this really is José Cura, it is some of the most ugly singing I have EVER heard...

  • That would be Cura. :D

He has what Italians call "il capra" or he sounds like a goat. It's an especially pronounced sound when pushed.

  • 2. Tagliavini

    3.Merli

    5. sounds like Schmidt but I am not aware he ever sang Lohengrin??

    7. di Stefano

    8. Carreras

    10. the man is di Stefano

    12. Frick????

    13. Anders

    14. Piccaver

    15. Olive Middleton.

  • 1. Sounds like Cura trying to sing baritone with that disgusting scooping (you didn't say it was a baritone singing!)

    2. Sobinov! (can't be Lemeshev right?)

    3. Pertile?

    6. Konya????

    7. Martinucci

    10. Tebaldi the woman. di Stefano the man???

    11. Dermota and ???

    12. Kurt Moll!

    15. Florence foster Jenkins. or is it Middleton after all?

Probably got them ALL wrong this time!

  • GermanOperaSinger is too good for us!

    1. Cura 2. Tagliavini. 3. Merli 4. Melchior?

    5. Schmidt. 7.Di Stefano. 8. Domingo.

    10. Simionato-Corelli; the recording is too bad...

  • This is difficult! :)

No. 9 sounds like MARIANO STABILE

No. 11... The TENAGLIA BROS. in German???

I am puzzled. Will comment more later, need food now.

  • #11 Tenaglia brothers :DDD

Have you seen their Pecheurs des Perles video on Youtube?

  • 1. Milnes

    3. Di Stefano?

    8. Del Monaco

    9. Wunderlich Only ones I recognize I think but I could be wrong let me know just on those

  • 1) Michael Bohnen 2) ? 3) Giovanni Zenatello 4) Mattia Battistini 5) Adolf Gröbke 6) Francesco Tamagno 7) ? 8) ? 9) Alfred Piccaver? (It was a tenour!) 10) Jussi Björling and Tiana Lemnitz 11) Max Lorenz and Jaro Prohaska 12) Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau 13) Luis Mariano 14) Alexander Girardi 15) ?
