what I don't like is it was hard to get SSI so the disabled turned to welfare. But they reformed that so it forced the disabled people on welfare- to apply to get SSI.Now people think it's the new welfare. I am on SSI and I never had kids and I was never on welfare. Combined full-time minimum wage paychecks both with 20 hours overtime is barely enough to get by if your a young couple with hopes for a future. At dinner my 34-yr old brother tells everyone that he's on food stamps. He's 34, able-bodied, single, and has no kids. He doesn't need them at all ("but hey, I qualify, so what the hell?") He was bragging that he's gamed the system to get food stamps....now he buys luxury foods....and he gloated about once having spent 80 dollars of gov't money to make a "raw" apple pie....yes, one pie. WTF. No dignity. No personal pride.
Another comment: a few Christmases ago I was at Kmart and this woman pulled out her Link Card (Ill version of EBT)and tried to use it to pay for electronics. That made me sick because I had just lost my unemployment.

I applied for food stamps at one point in my life when I was struggling, but because I had a small amount of money in savings, I had to transfer it in my mother's name in order to qualify. Basically, I had to "give up" my money for awhile to get assistance.

My husband and I made an agreement a long time ago that I would be a stay at home mom to our children until they are grown and out on their own. We do have FS and med insurance (b/c my son's Rx's run well over $275 a month); there are times I truly dislike my position. When I shop it's by myself and the junk food I've seen other moms put into their carts is doesn't get put into mine. I more than respect you and don't resent your rant but ensuring their health means the most to me.

I recieve government assistance because of my status as a student. However, I know that if I did not have parents who could assist me, I would be like many other women who cannot finish school, and therefore remain in the system. As long as there is capitalism, there will be impoverished families living on welfare because it costs more to have a job and pay for child care, making their situation even worse.
In all honesty, for many welfare families, it costs more for those families to have full-time jobs. The vicious cycle is created by capitalism, which needs people on welfare to thrive. Capitalism is based upon class seperation, that is the distinction between capitalistic democracy and communism.

The key word here is "temporary". Some people use this as a way of life, not as a hand up. If you temporarily need welfare you should be able to get it and then get rid of it when you're stable again.

I work as a convenience store clerk and we take EBT (food stamp) cards. So, I have the unfortunate opportunity to witness the constant abuse every day I work. These people will buy their alcohol, cigarettes and lottery tickets with their money (or the cash purchase option on the food stamp card) and buy the mixer for the alcohol with their food stamps. Not to mention they buy nothing but junk when they actually do get food. Doesn't this country have an obesity epidemic? Regulation, please!

I applied for food stamps at one point in my life when I was struggling, but because I had a small amount of money in savings, I had to transfer it in my mother's name in order to qualify. Basically, I had to "give up" my money for awhile to get assistance.

My husband and I made an agreement a long time ago that I would be a stay at home mom to our children until they are grown and out on their own. We do have FS and med insurance (b/c my son's Rx's run well over $275 a month); there are times I truly dislike my position. I recieve government assistance because of my status as a student. However, I know that if I did not have parents who could assist me, I would be like many other women who cannot finish school, and therefore remain in the system. As long as there is capitalism, there will be impoverished families living on welfare because it costs more to have a job and pay for child care, making their situation even worse.

I work as a convenience store clerk and we take EBT (food stamp) cards. So, I have the unfortunate opportunity to witness the constant abuse every day I work. These people will buy their alcohol, cigarettes and lottery tickets with their money (or the cash purchase option on the food stamp card) and buy the mixer for the alcohol with their food stamps. I wish everyone treated welfare like you did. You can't even call it government assistance. IT'S CALLED GOVERNMENT DEPENDENCY!!! Cuz people depend on it. If the government took their heads out their asses and took these benefits away PEOPLE WOULD STARVE... PERIOD!!!
I've seen females rocking outfits that female rappers talk about in they songs and they got $6,000 worth of food stamps with they baddass kids, complaining about how expensive food is. I'm getting tired of this bullshit!!!

@mrskaykins Hey I have Autism and never complain I been looking for a job I can't find anything yet.I get a Social Security Check monthly I still look for oppertunities to work or volunteer so I never complain like some people.I just say to myself just keep trying.

Thank you for your comment, but please REWATCH the video before you get your panties in a jumble. I speak of women that live an entire lifetime on government assistance. Not those that temporily use it. I've been there on assistance, so I can speak from experience!

@thabaddest1984 She was talking about long term welfare recipients. Not people who lost their job, and are looking for a new one. And she is right. I cannot believe how many of my well off friends have gone on welfare. It's disgusting. Many Americans are just lazy.

I understand that you are against welfare because of the stigma behind it. But you mentioning that people that are on welfare are lazy is just reaffirming the stereotypes. To assume that their lazy is really a lack of information on your part. Yes there are people who abuse the system but you must consider the people who are under conditions that may restrict them from getting a job. If they get a job or stay on welfare they are still going to be under the poverty lines regardless

I love your rant it's entertaining and true. My sister is like that but our mother has been taking care of her son, but she still claims him for food stamp money, and she takes care of that lazy ass husband of hers who don't have no job. On top of that he cooks and makes her get bigger and bigger so no other man would want her.
I love my sister, don't like her, but I love her. I just wish she'd do better and get rid of him. I really wish she could see this.
