life before 1990 was great, i was very young but i remember it well enough, now its all the same crap with the very very minor exceptions in music/films
It was Giorgio Moroder version of this film that got me interested in these old science fiction classics in the first place. What they really should do is release a version of this film with two sound tracks (the way that DVDs have two audio tracks) one being the original and the other being Giorgio's version.
I was wondering if anyone noticed the similarity between this instrumental, and the song "Obsession" by by 'Animotion' YouTube video v=hIs5StN8J-0 I was wondering if anyone knew of any connection between the two, to me they seem to similar to be a coincidence, but I haven't found any connection between the two other then then this song and it's music. It says on Wikipedia that the song was written in 1983, but became popular in 1985, and the movie came out in 1984.
they should do a "Nosferatu"-Movie with some colorized parts from the original 1922 footage (Murnau-Stiftung Restoration) with "NEW DISCO TECHNO MUSIC" (David Guetta,...) !!!
That would be great !!!
Then we could watch 2 old movies (Nosferatu and Metropolis) with a cool soundtrack !!!
This is good, but its also soft, melodic, and lacks catchy hooks. How the hell are you goin to pull off a hardstyle remix without making it sound completely ridiculous
That's assuming any given song calls for a remix. There's few exceptions to the rule that remixing is usually a pointless venture into the inferior. This is coming from a guy who has a lot of remixes, and I can understand a remixer hearing songs from the standpoint of remixing them. But, remixing is an over-done practice, and thank goodness for those songs that are difficult to be redone.
I have this CD and also a video cassette of the 1984 version. I also saw it at the cinema in 1984. The movie soundtrack and the CD are quite different. For example in the music here from 1:48 to 2:04 doesn't exist on the video. In fact the real soundtrack is quite a bit better, especially some of the incidental music where the crowds are going nuts running through the streets. None of that on the CD though. The CD was a big dissapointment.
i wish moroder would redo the extra 25 minute german version with extra music, they can put sweet dreams with the eurithmics where the evil twin dances semi topless in the 25 min extra version.
@kyopsis That is so true, in my opinion music has gone straight down the toilet, you get the odd band but not many sounds like great music, I have heard some artists who actually sound not bad at all, but the music is easy manufactured crap. The music and the tunes in the Moroder version ...I just love, particularly the instrumental music
@SpasticCollin If it sucks, I will make sure it never leaves my hard-drive. But it's worth the risk. Giorgio Moroder's genius, applied via modern medium to an impossibly dance-able genre? I can't resist.
@meningzegger Uh huh... So adding one's own artistic angle to something is a bad thing? Connecting with the original artist through their music to create something new and wonderful should earn someone a life sentence to jail? Nice theory. You must hate Giorgio Moroder then, because what he did to the film Metropolis is a REMIX. He took a piece of art, and loved it enough to add his own facet to it's already beautiful design. Sue me for doing it too.
well the movie was made in 1927. Did you really expect them to make an techno soundtrack at that time? Doesn't make since to me. Why in fact I was laughing my ass off when the soundtrack was added.
true, true, but I'd like to see a BluRay release of this (and other silent films with their own) with a number of different soundtracks. That way we can all experience it through different art mediums.
I know I saw Metropolis on TCM once without volume (or very low) and thought it needed something extra.
I agree with you "undertaker3124", however you have to see it in a more global context. Back in the 80s this was the height of cool, and "machines" still oozes bags of positive futurism, which again proves your point...wrong movie... but great track, wrong century though.
That's cool if you like it. I just like the movie version better with the guitar. Sometime last year I found a person who ripped the audiotrack from the laserdisc so I can listen to the actual version.
@georgiahoosier personaly i thought the movie score sucked except the music towards the end wich is copied in the shinning with jack nicholson i believe.
@6thdimensional Other than the intro and the scene where Rotwang menaces Maria in the catacombs I found all the music to be forgettable. By the end are you talking about the climactic scene with Freder confronting Rotwang on the cathedral roof?
@georgiahoosier for the classical score, i wasnt impressed, no i think its towards where the end where they show the cathedral, at least i saw the 25 extra min version one in german with the original score thats 2 hours and 20 minutes if i remember or something close. I actualy prefer the moroder as its the first version I saw.
@6thdimensional It's been a long time since I've seen the Moroder version. It would be nice if it were released on DVD just for the nuts like me that are trying to collect every version of Metropolis ever released.
Still trying to find a copy of the BBC version that aired in the late 70s with sound effects rather than music!
Really can't wait for the latest version that's being restored right now, should fill in a lot of gaps in the story
I am happy to see others are into this great soundtrack. A movie just is not the same without a great soundtrack. I would like to see more silent movies re-vamped with some new up to date sound.
Metropolis is the greatest visual film ever. Sure the special effects are bad by today's standards. But Remembering that Metropolis was from 1927 and that SFX in those days were almost non-existant makes it even more awesome. Sure LotR and Blade Runner are visually impressive, but they still dont compare to Metropolis
I love this theme and I love what they did with the movie with the 1980s update. Simply a classic! Lang called so many things other directors bit off of! What a pioneer!
See this film if you can, it's mind blowing for the 1920s! The version with the 1980s soundtrack is very good! So much of "Blade Runner" and "The Matix" plays off of this movie it isn't eevn funny. Heck, one could even argue that it predated "The Terminator" in some areas. Rothwang's arm alone is mind blowing for the 1920s.
i love this! have this on my ipod and i wish i could see the moroder version! i have the kino (which i love) but i love the clips ive seen of this version. can someone tell me what part of the movie this is from? i would guess the Moloch machine part but....
This music's set to the intro, and when the workers are running around in a big mob destroying stuff (After the 'Destruction' song) if I remember right
thanks! wats the song for the Moloch machine? i looked at a muted version of the beginning of his version and i tried to line up the song and the scene and it fit quite nicely...but thanks!!!!!!!!! (no im not doubting u im stupid)
The moloch machine part is where all the workers are marching into the big, evil-faced machine, right? There wasn't really a track going on there, just some vague, creepy music
