  • "Talking about raising Gst and the top person tax rate"

So they Raise GST when they said they wouldnt, Then gave the top tax cuts and borrowed 1.9b to pay for them!

  • Yeah right! like last time john, #TPP will not grow NZ it will opened uped to be raped by big business in the USA

  • Yeah right! like last time john

  • phil goff is right keys is a lair

  • @sniker45 Key really is, but phill goff is a git. Vote greens :V

  • "National is not going to be raising GST." Nek Minnit..

  • Q: How can you tell when a politician is telling a lie?

    A: Their lips are moving!

  • @laverda668 How true!

  • Q: How can you tell when a politician is telling a lie?

    A: Their lips are moving!

  • Not going to raise GST, The lying git, he's now done it and spin doctored his way ou of it. This guy is nothing more than a money trader good at making money for himself. Totally unqualified to be a prime minister any more than a good used car sales man or real estate agent would be qualified.

Good at showing his face to gain credence and then doing nothing. The Canterbury earthquake is a prime example of that. He and fat Gerry Brownlee showed up and nothings been seen of them since. Typical,

  • he promised this before the reccession.... then said he couldn't not put it up.... but fact is everything goes up except income.

  • " if we do a half decent job of growing the economy i'm confident rising GST wont happen". FAIL Say's it all you, lying bastard.

  • the people who have done all they can to make change and a life for there families are in the shit pile and the people who lie on there ass's get a bigger tax cut???how does this work. soon this country will be left will lowlifes and arrogant a..holes thats why all the good ones are moving abroad

  • who contribute to the growth of this country.Who put there families first, the hardworking parents who hate not to get to stay at home to look after there children but have no choice if they want to get anywhere in this country. The ones who arent allowed a handout once in a while as there not on a permanent benefit!(utterly rediculous)

  • I can at least say this is not my fault I knew national would look after the rich and beneficiaries and leave out the middle income families, the hardworking ones who dont have debt who have worked all there lives.

  • Oh i hate this guy he is a great lier

  • it dosnt matter if the gst rises everyone has a moan for a couple of months and you get over it but if its pon the newes people will start moaning again its not as bad as the medis says they are a crook of shit its all abwt moeny making like i say keep them dumb and they will keep on coming lol

  • wow, GST now 15% lol

  • If we would have become a country which was debt free we would of had a tax drop and a economic price hike in our wages. Which would have done wonders for our country. Now we are just sitting in the pile of filth at the bottom of John Keys list.

  • All John Key has been doing lately is SPEND. Our country was in debt of only 2 Billion dollars when Helen Clark's time was up and since John Key has been in under the National Party our country's total debt has now jumped to 40 Billion dollars in debt. This is just a cover up for John Key's spending on our foreign counter-parts.

  • It's a bit sad when people claim someone isn't qualified to comment on economic issues because they haven't worked in the private sector. It's like saying those that have never been poor aren't entitled to an opinion on welfare, or the effect of a GST increase on those with limited incomes. Also a bit like saying that those who study for Masters degrees can't see past their textbooks and don't understand the real world. All generalisations, all wrong (although the latter does appeal to me...)

  • @MissCLMcKoy. Ignorance must be bliss! I am not rich, nor come from a rich family. But I am educated and working toward a Masters in Economics - This means I am a student and have been a student for quite some time. Both these attributes mean Im more qualified than you to speak about this issue and its effect on low income earners. But your input is awesome and appreciated! its important that everyone gets to voice their opinion. Democracy rules!

  • What a fucking patronising little slogan for capitalist flavoured democracy that comment was! Sorry, I dont mean to sound hostile - but the rhetoric of your statements is frankly repugnant to me. But, economics is your forte - which I suspect doesnt require a lot of free thinking or imagination. I cannot abide anyone who views any tax (immoral government theft) , or amendment of any tax violation as a step in any direction that benefits the majority who pay these criminals to govern.

  • Go live in North Korea... Or the old soviet union, or 1958-60's china and see the success of communism. I suggest you read some books! some of the greatest free and creative thinkers are Economists.

  • If the pieces of pie were to be all the same size ie shared equally then this system would be called communism. And there would be no incentive for me/you or anyone else in NZ to invest their money. Why? Because I/you could freeride! And that goes against the idea that most kiwis have about pulling your own weight, and your freedom to choose.

  • Wow - were you programmed is C++ or basic? The pieces of the pie should all be shared simple as that, but they are not. Communism, with a tweak or 10 would be better than this capitalist system. We invest our money whether we want to or not, on things (taxes/theft) we apparently have no say on, so called democracy eh! Bluntly; fuck all these criminals - we all have a voice but it might as well be mute. A vote for a limited selection of crooks? Thanks democracy! Pulling your own weight means zilch

  • @chrishipkens The lowering of income tax will offset any increase in GST for all taxpayers, lower and high income earners. People should not see any difference in their wealth if their spending stays the same. However, this policy is designed so people start to think about saving and investing (in other things other than houses!) so our economy can be more productive ie more jobs. The pie should get bigger but the pieces of pie will stay proportionally the same size.

  • That would however be quite an expensive and elaborate sort of system to bring into place. Hence, imho I think that this revamp of GST is a step in the right direction.

  • There are some wacky comments coming out guys.... This is a pretty commen sense policy! Think a bit!

As for John Key lying... seems like a bit of a faux pas! But I can remember Helen Clarke telling her fair share of fibs! "Ohhh I did that painting...." !

Overall this policy will make us think about our consumption. Ideally I think lowering GST on fruit and vegies and increasing it even more than 15% on Soft drinks, Chips, Fast food, while everything else goes to 15% would be better.

  • keys is just helen post op.

  • Absoulutely. Hell i'm a smoker and theres a load of tax on them, there is know health implications and my taxes paid on smokes more that pay for health issues that arrise from smoking (even tho i'll get second class treatment should i develop smoking related illnesses).

On the other hand food that are not healthy, comsumed in large quantities by generally low socio-economic groups, that are known to cause early death are not taxed to the same lvl.

    Tax the fat i say.

  • Actually, on the point of taxes on smokes, I very much agree with you. I look at the motivations of these people rather than the waffle they speak. I hear ( though try to avoid mainstream news in general) via news that they are tentatively planning to double ciggy prices to urge people to give up!?! One would have to ask, if they are actually serious about our health, why not ban them? (im smoker too) I know why, greed and the lure of more profit from taxes. And if they can fine us, even better!

  • In debate points of commonality can be found, in arguing only points of conflict.

The crazy thing about smokes is that if they were discovered today and full tested before releast to the market, they would be banned as a highly addictive substance.

The suggestion for doubling the price can't from the Maori party, as over 50% of adult maori smoke compaired to less than 10% of the remaining pop.

If people could function on crack and govts could tax and regulate it, i'm sure they would.

  • All that free market ideology has produced the current recession. John Maynard Keynes would have been able to offer some more creative alternative theoretical perspectives which I suspect would be much more useful at this point in time.

  • And the lowering of a corporate tax will provide an environment where businesses can be competitive internationally, If these businesses grow, they can employ more people. This increased competition for labour will increase salaries and working conditions - Ie closing the pay parity gap between NZ and OZ.

  • Thankfully finally there is someone on here who gets the system Sooner than cry about it and blame National for a system introduces by Labour but watered down as to be far less than effective. I personally don't think the increase in enough, and if income taxes went down across the borad significantly, I would be happy with a 20% gst system

  • What planet are you from? Oh that's right, just an over egoed, over paid know-it-all that has NEVER ever had to survive TRUE hardship!

No one like your comments! Go find a life!

  • like he said he is like obama. both puppets for the NWO.

  • You earned a 'thumbs down' for your comment - but I agree. He is a coroprate whore just like the rest of them. Half these people on here are so programmed to accept this evil system they are caught up debating the most tedious minute details and dont look at the system as a whole. Meanwhile the puppet master plays another hand. The whole system is very sick indeed and we need radical change. Again, I will state my advocation for peaceful yet assertive, total non compliance with this system.

  • The first day he tried to tell the media that he never really said he wasn't going to raise GST. Gyon Espener (reporter) said that he could have handled it better by just saying that times have changed. The next day, what's Bill English saying? "Yeah times have changed". Puppets the lot of them (or Muppets to be more specific). I'm not against National but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get a second term based on stupidity alone.

  • philthy122,

I should point out that most people follow their passions/interests post-tertiary education and Helen Clark did exactly that.

The fact that her mother was a primary school teacher and her father a dairy farmer are examples of her working class origins.

John Key's mother barely lifted a spade in her entire life.

  • Neither of those occupations are considered working class.

And good on clark for doing that, i still stand by my statement that she never worked in a business/real world situation.

Key's is an exception to the general cycle of generational benefit dependance (as it the mad butcher)

  • philthy122

Are you suggesting here that working as a lecturer at the University of Auckland's political department isn't a real job?

Because I can assure you that she was a paid employee for the university and income tax was being deducted.

Her passion was for politics and that is why she headed there almost immediately after her post-graduate studies.

John Key's passion was for business and economics, he failed management courses at Harvard.

    Their intellect vary competitively.

  • He is a Banker and a reptilian puppet for the NWO. he needs to be put in prison

  • National has now come out with there True Colours. Increase of GST to help the wealthy become more wealthy to Help with this ACC bill maybe we can pass it to those cyclist that take up most of the road and cause a lot of accidents. Because at the moment they don't pay road cost but have about the same right as a vehicle.......

  • What a Complete Banker

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA we all suck when it comes to forgetting what we said before or making statements that we go back on, but this is FUNNY SHIT.

  • Labour was making it quite clear during the 2008 campaign that National's election promises were reckless and economically indecorous.

Bill English and John Keg ignored their advice and plunged right on ahead, promising large-scale tax cuts and better economic management.

I have yet to see any of this, have you?

  • philthy122

I wouldn't go as far as calling the Clark family "wealthy". They owned a small, dairy farm in Waikato: they were considered small business owners/ working class citizens.

Helen Clark earned a scholarship for her education at Epsom Girls Grammar and went on to The University of Auckland.

None of this indicates "wealth" to me at all, if anything they were financially comfortable as a result of their hard work and good deeds.

John Key's mother was the opposite, raised by the state.

  • In comarative terms she was better of. State dependance is something that is generally passed from generation to generation. Key is an exception to the rule in that sence.

He has worked out side of politics most of his career and has a may atributes that he brings for that to his roll as PM.

Clark on the other hand has just started her first 'real' job.

Classic case of 'those that can't do, teach - those that cannot teach, leave uni and go straight in to politics' imho

  • NZ already saves a lot of money by not having Fighter jest for years.

  • I think they should take gst off fruit and vegetables because they are healthy and would be a step from getting us out of second place for the obesity ratio.

  • Lying prick..... got into power lying about giving us all a tax cut and now hits low to middle earners really hard by raising g.s.t...... oh well you idiots voted for him!!!

  • @MrFlemball you are right, bro, we are hurt, John key is better off himself.

  • hmm pretty much never happened before aye. im sure we'll never fall for it again don't worry :)

  • Lol - You know, I hope I wake up tomorrow and youre prophetically right on with that... *sigh*

Eventually the sheep will wake up and realise this bunch of psychopathic criminals have to go. Final thought; peaceful non-compliance with this sick obsolete dishonest form of governance and revolution. Crazy ideal now - I pray, wonderful reality soon! The sleeping masses are slowly waking...

  • Totally Right!!

  • lol why did u adultfags vote for him? xD

  • Really? I am sure some straight people voted for him as well. Why do so many of the labour supporters start labeling people homos and fags in this comment section?

  • I have to say i can't understand that either.

National in generally thought of a right wing, christian, and not gay friendly.

Labour - left wing, liberals and many of their own party rank openly gay (some not so openly - that their choice who's to argue)

Either way last time i checked be gay wasn't considered a reason to preclude anyone from public office.....unless you live in the 1970's/early 80's....which clearly some parts of NZ still do.

  • Our govt should spend more to kick start our economy. Australia response to global recession were large increases in govt spending to stimulate aggregate consumption. Our response was small increase in govt spending and tax cuts. It is clear from recent data the NZ response did not have the desired effect. There has been a substantial reduction in aggregate consumption and investment in the economy and unemployment has risen since John Key became PM. So much for his business credentials.

  • philthy122

If John Key is the "average joe" you seem to think he is, why is he borrowing $200 million dollars a week just to keep the country afloat?

Helen Clark and Michael Cullen stressed that tax cuts were unaffordable and reckless and they were 99.9 percent accurate in their depictions - John Key and Bill English were wrong.

Who do you think is paying for this mistake?

    Ordinary New Zeland no doubt.

So what if Helen Clark wasn't the "welfare dependent" that John Key's mother was?

  • THat wasn't really my point. My point is that they both have vastly different experiences.

Clark - educated socilist from wealthy back ground, keen to see a people bependent of the state.

Key - from a poor back ground, work hard to make something of himself. Trying to instill that in a socially dependent working class (or non-working class in some cases)

Don't forget that the Labour govt. knew the state of the books before the election. National did not.

ACC was empty to start with

    Key -

  • ACC certainly wasn't empty to start with. Key's strategists were simpy following the same olde same olde Chicago School neo-liberal script that creates a crisis and then wields in the private enterprise solution - which isn't enterprising at all!

  • You balieve that all you want, it doesn't change the fact that labour policies associated with ACC emptied the coffers prior to the hand over of government.

Since when is suicide and accident. By deffinition it is taking ones own life. Yet ACC, under instruction from a Labour govt, pays out to families of a person who commits suicide. Did the rope accidently go round their neck....no. Pay outs for wholistic/newage care...no scientifly provable benefits.

Total state care is a mockery.

  • I think as human being, you have totally missed the point and the caveat is in your comment regarding did the rope accidentally go round their neck. I personally would question "why are so many ropes going around so many necks with the current system"? I know you wont take this seriously as you seem very caught up with specifics regarding the system crooks. I have to ask, are you a lawyer?

  • Nope, my point is that ACC has been raped by Labour policies with regard to who and what is is allowed to be spent on. Suicide is not an accident, by definition.Non-medica (scientifically untested)l treatments should not be paid for from ACC.

As for the current system, which the coalition govt. will change, it was systematically stuffed up slowly over a 9 year period of PC politics, feel good hippy-ism and dumbing down of the general population.

Labour made a mess of it, good riddance

  • @TheFreeMarkets - for someone on a higher income, like me, then your argument makes sense. I can choose not to buy that new flatscreen TV and yep, I'll get a tax cut and be better off. But for someone on a lower income, who spends all of their money on day-to-day basics like food, power, rates etc, they don't have those choices. It will be very difficult for National to target their tax cuts so that those on lower incomes don't end up worse off.

  • And to add to that, remember Labour's tax cuts were targeted towards the lower end of the income spectrum and one of National's first move in govt was to cancel those and re-direct those tax cuts to those on higher incomes. At this point I've little faith the next round will be any different. I hope they'll surprise me!

  • But the gst system is a consumer baised tax system. Where by the more you consume the more tax you pay. Currently the tax system allows high income earners to pay little or no tax. Our social welfare system is paid for by low and middle income earners. These changes to the overall tax system will make NZ economically competitive.

Next step addressing benefit dependance on the state thru job creation, up skilling, secondary production and managed mining. NZ should already be a wealthy country.

  • @philthy122 Suicide is usually a symptom of other problems. If you have an undiagnosed mental illness and you kill yourself, is it your fault? I have friends with mental illness and find it appalling how often people assume suicide is a choice. It may be a decision but it is not often made from a stable state. As for holistic/new age care, often the results of medical research are ambiguous, which means it could go both ways. It hasn't been proven NOT to be effective.

  • @madsoundz87 i really don't get your point; or how its related to comments about gst posted over 6 months ago.....

  • i think its a good idea. combating the rise in GST with income tax cuts gives people choice. They could pay off more of their mortgage with the extra disposable income as well as debts, instead of wasting money on crap they don't need.

  • @gobitron23 , that just for middle class, not for people just barely make living.

  • Nice one John... Couldn't convince your real estate tycoon & property speculator mates of a capital gains tax huh? Just hit out against the poor, again. That smile will only carry you so far.

  • labour is laughing at us dam helen clark is sayn "i told ya so"whlie sittn in her big flash building in u.s

she said no way they could cut taxs more than they were....

this snake lied just to get in there he beta be out nxt election!

  • hahahahaha

National wants to cut taxes not raise them: yet ACC levies have meant increases in vehicle registrations and petrol taxes.

National is also proposing a GST increase.

What a complete joke this party is...

  • Comment removed

  • Suck on that to all those that voted this dickhead and his party in and moan about this GST rise. National only look after the rich and do jack shit for all the middle class and low income families. BRING BACK HELEN!!

  • You are stupid. You call to replace one maniac with the previous one! You talk as if there is a two party system here.

  • @Dinther OMG! What do think you know about me that makes you think that you can call me stupid! All I know is Labour stand for the lower/ working class families and my job means that I SEE how the other half live and survive in NZ, not just seeing them as a number on a page as a statistics.

Well what the hell are the options??? Peter? Rodney? Phil? NOPE! Better the devil you know than the devil you don't!

    GET a LIFE!

  • Lies lies and more lies. Governments worldwide are owned by big business simple as that. We need to remove all of these corrupt people from power and move to an honest form of government. Not likely to happen until these criminals make things so bad for all of us that we finally all stand up and say enough. Cant believe we know they lie and yet we still dont question our limited options of crooks @ election time. Would you marry someone you found out lied about their intentions?

  • Nothing to do with big business. What is needed is accountability for ones statements and huge cuts in spending. We can start by sending this lying maggot home.

  • I would be very interested to hear what an honest form of govenment would be in your opinion. Of the choices available to us that are practiced around the world, democratic elections would appear to be the fairest. Even MMP will work great with some tweeking, especially if people turn the backs on polar party divisionism.

  • I would say NONE of the so called forms of governance. Honest as in actually for the people and run by the people. Put politicians back where they belong - clerical duties rather than dictating the conditions of our lives, to put it vaguely yet simply. It appears you have a very narrow if pragmatic approach to governance. I dont mean that as an insult, its just my personal observation. I am idealistic in nature, spiritual if you like. I feel humanity has evolved beyond the current 'system'.

  • Idealism has never worked as an effective form of govenment as humans have a tendancy to be greedy. I was never a fan of MMP but not a fan of FFP either. Having many points of political view expressed in govenment is good for all, however too many fractured groups leads to chaos (Italian MMP). Our current version need a few tweeks to prevent minority rule, but appart from that it appears to work quite nicely.

  • What parties say they will and will not do should be honoured. HAHA HE GOT SNAPPED! SHAME ON YOU MR KEY!

  • I REGRET VOTING FOR THE HOMO!

  • I don't actually think he is gay. By the way your caps lock appears to be stuck. Try the button above the shift button.

  • Hey dude, I don't think his key is stuck...He's yelling lol!!! & I dont think he's gay but he's still a HOMO!!! (sorry no offence to gay people lol)

  • Really. You are all class. You should attack the idea not the person.

  • Yeah just shows politians are the best liars!

  • No they are the terrible liars, its just most people are too dumb, or maybe just blinded by their hopes and dreams to realise.

  • Thats true mate

  • This creature (I don't want to insult men) is a lying two faced bastard. We are now stuck between choosing Socialists or National Socialists.

Maybe it is time to packup and leave this country to the blood suckers.

  • what a dick!!

  • Yes John keep lying to the New Zealand people. You have already sold us to the raw enihcam. Don`t think that we are not part of the illusion NZ. I love my country but I see too many clueless people just walking around, not knowing.

John doesn`t care about you, remember his house? He is a banker plain and simple. Out for his gain. NOT YOURS.

  • Yeah but since he became PM more New Zealanders ended up on the benefit at no fault of there own. John Key should be stimulating the economy not cost cutting. Look at Australia they spent billions to stimulate there economy and it woks. Maybe I should just move to Australia!

  • I went to oz during the last recession, it was a good move. Problem this time around is its a global recession. And due to austrailas mineral reserves it is in a unique position.

NZ is doing far better than most countries and is currently in a good position to come out on top.

It will be interesting to see how many jobs are lost when the free trade agreement with china takes affect. We cannot compete on labour cost alone.

The out going govenment signed that deal during campaining...

  • @philthy122 , Country should not be run like a business, if run like business, where should all those beneficiaries go???sack them, and deport them to Mars!!!

  • Find them work??

  • no, that would not be a solution as the cost of sending anyone to mars would out weigh the financial benifit of many other solutions.

In the sence of 'running a country like a business' i mean a sucessful business, on where it generates money from exports and its own resources (mineral, agricultural and human). Benifit systems was developed by labour to assist people in their time of need, not for people to be supported by the state (yours and my taxes) for their life time. education is key

  • now that we know hes a flip flopper, hopefully he will do something useful like going back on his word about superanuation

  • one term wonders for sure....apart from GST increases the public will not stand for mining in the conservation estate. If Phil Goff cant make a meal of this then he shouldnt be there.

  • oh yeA HOW WOULD IT BENEFIT ME??

    bullshit

  • you'd have to be more specific.

In general the gst system (introduces by labour and originally designed tp be 20%) is looked upon by other countries as a very good model tax system. It removed many other taxes. Currently many high earners use creative accounting to avoid paying income tax. Everyone pays gst. The propose tax changes won't affect most people. High income earners who buy large ticket items will pay more tax for them. It may hurt low income earner for things like beer and smokes.

  • @philthy122

Are you under the impression only beer and smokes attract GST ? Your granny will be paying more for bread, milk, medicine, transport, everything. The wealthy can afford this, the rest of us can't, but guess who's getting the tax cut . . . nats looking after their own

  • I ran out of space for comment.

The point with gst is that ALL comsumers are taxed. Currently top tax bracket earners avoid income taxes by using loop holes made during the 9 year labour govt. In oz they exempted food from gst and the cost of running gst has been vastly reduced.

Further more the quickest way to inflace the basics/essentials in to increase the minimun wage (bad idea) the best thing to do is encourage industry to create demand for skilled workers, which can then be paid more

  • Who the hell do you think you are?My god you need to pull your head out of your ass and take a look at the real New Zealand. Not just mingling with those earning over the 100k a year.Obviously you're NOT on a minimum wage earner as a graphic designer or whatever the hell it is you do. And from the sounds of it you look down on those in the lower socioeconomic bracket by stereotyping these people by stating that all they do is drink alcohol and smoke! You call me stupid but at least I'm not a PIG!

  • good on john key. he's made a tough decision that will help sort out the mess that lobour left the country in. Who emptied the ACC acount... Labour. Who made it easier for people to stay on benifits....Labour. Who continually raise the minimum wage above inflation...Labour. (btw raising the minimum wage IS a pay cut for every middle income earner as prices need to rise to pay for it)

Nationals change of tact was forced by the global recession and Labours incompetence.

  • @philthy122

How can you like a band like Rise Against and have such dim and un-informed outlook on politics?

  • Sometime musical taste and politics don't necessarly have anything to with each other. An anti bush war song has very little to do with The simple facts in my privious statement.

Labour made some major cock ups (listed above) yet to correct these inherited problems Key and his coalition govenment have had to make hard decisions.

My opinion isn't un-informed, just clearly different to yours...thats called democratic freedom.

Oh btw, food prices went up in with minimum wage increses today.

  • You can defend National all you like but this video says it all! We nurses, especially working in a primary health care setting SEE the real NZ first hand and the issues and hardships they face.

Stop cutting and pasting all this crap from the national partys webpage. Just go away.....no one likes your comments!

  • @Freemarket you sound familiar are you or were you known as philthy122?

  • nope he/she isn't me. But we seem to agree on many points. Nice isn't it.

  • Liar it is you!

  • umm, no its me, but i'm not that other person.

  • Firstly i've never actually visited the national or labour party websites.

Secondly as a nurse you would be well awear that since the last labour govt started fiddling with the heath system management positions increase 1000%, yet front line care has recieved little benefit from extra spending in health care.

Finally i don't really care if you or anyone else doesn't 'like' my comments. Democracy and debate go hand in hand.

Censorship...well that's communism, socialism, totalitarism etc

  • Oh blah, blah.......and blah. You go ahead a believe what you want and trying to convince people commenting on this page that Labour did nothing at all for this country. LABOUR ALL THE WAY!!

  • i don't think i commented that all labour ever did was wrong, nor have i stated that all that national has done is right. Being one-eyed is a rather limited point of view to come from.

Labour introduced GST in the first place

(if didn't know), National is using it elected position to make GST work better. Actually like Labour wanted to do in the first place.

Oh, and we have an MMP system favouring co-operation.

    So...DEMOCRACY ALL THE WAY.

  • As a labour supporter, i knew this would happen, but as normal new zealanders vote for a party that will do all they can for the rich, and do nothing for the average worker, beneficiary or lower income earner .When it comes to voting, you have to look at what the party has done in the past, to determine what they will do in the future, as for national, if they get in for a second term, expect things to get worse ,you aint seen nothing yet .Privatization, workers rights will be next.

  • Meh.. Politicians, would you expect anything less?

  • I'm a right-winger, but, I am utterly disgusted by this.

The National Party campaigned on tax cuts. That was their #1 campaign promise. Instead, the National Party cancels the tax-cuts and give us a regressive tax INCREASE.

Evidently, John Key is LYING SCUM!

I would say "I told you so", but, I can't find anyone who admits to voting for National these days.

  • 15% GST to cover deficits or 15% for other reasons is STILL 15%. It was obvious you were stating that National was against raising GST. Come on John, don't treat us like idiots. Raising GST is not the way to a better NZ. The average kiwi can't work much harder to make ends meet mate. We're not all earning MP's salaries. Time that you need to take a walk in our shoes John.

  • I hope all the people who voted for a change are happy now !!! He's not worried, all the people on big wages are even better of now

  • Oh John...as a young worker you dissapoint me...always have,,,Im just glad someone has you Plain out lying on camera!

  • @radchix either that or he doesnt think hes done a good job as a government, as he says towards the end

  • i will be voting for labour next time, they were good to the students. I'm not on minimum wage but a 25cent increase is weak.

This gst increase will make the poor poorer which will lead to increase in loans and more people in debt.

  • @c00lj0j0 an increase in the minimum wage above inflation is in effect a pay cut to every middle income earner. The extra money has to come from somewhere and you and I woill pay for it from basic food stuff and primary production. Employers aren't going to donate a wage increase from profits. The poor need to stop sucking on the teet of benifits get their fingers out and better themselves, not expect the value of everyone elses dollar to be lessened.

  • The National Party LIES!

  • Change! lol.

Key, like Obama, is an empty suit!!

  • You mean to say, you don't buy into the American media's portrayal of Obama as a living Saint incapable of error? ;-)

Obama is even worse than Key. At least Key understands Monetarism. Omaba is so thoroughly clueless that in a recent press conference he didn't even know how many States were in the USA :-(

  • Fancy that a politician who breaks his promises...

Last one out of NZ turn off the lights lmao!

  • I'll swap you my shares in New Zealand Inc for an economy class ticket to Ozzy ;-)

  • LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No worries me hearties - that flexible politico is probably panning for minerals sprinkled close to the surface of our ecosystems so we can catch the dratted lucky country's' continuing growth through the global recession! Just waiting for video evidence of that aspirational vision ... the investment banker with his sleeves rolled up and getting down to do an honest day's work ...

  • I suspect it's pointless to remind people that under the last Labour govt NZ achieved the lowest unemployment rates in the world and thus the economy could not really have grown any faster without causing unhealthy rates of inflation? True, growth had slowed down by the time of the 2008 election due to the global recession, but I think Key was clearly disingenuous (roughly speaking: telling a porky) when he said Labour had "failed" to enable economic growth in the previous 9 years.

  • never again will i vote for national so far im $1000 bucks worse off than under labour thanks to the no tax increase.

  • when was this video taken?

  • By the NZ Herald, 20 October 2008

  • @BlackrazorNZ 'accommodate' is the word you're after, and keep trying - maybe one day someone will believe that Key isn't a weak-minded populist.

  • @duncanh I'm truly glad that the only flaw in my entire argument strong enough for you to form a reply to was an inadvertent spelling mistake :)

  • @BlackrazorNZ whatever girlfriend. Your argument is flawed because you believe the public should allow John Key the right to take back his words 'to accomodate [sic] reality'. Things constantly change. Will Key constantly change his mind? Probably...

  • @duncanh Why is that a flawed argument? Since when do the promises of ANY politician mean more than the paper they're printed on? I'd much rather he was flexible enough to change his view to suit the prevailing need, rather than stick to his guns for 9 years and turn the country into an A-grade festhole, aka Uncle Helen. How crazy has society become when inflexibility of ideals is regarded as a positive character trait?

  • @BlackrazorNZ Discerning voters prefer representatives with firmer backbones. I enjoyed the 'inflexibility of ideals' bit. He's going back on his word; not changing his ideals.

  • @BlackrazorNZ So he isn't using this as part of his tax cut scheme that he promised leading up to the election?

  • @OMGMitchy Considering nothing specific has even been announced yet (other than the vague outline of an intended policy), especially as far as actual percentages etc go, it's a bit hard to know WHAT he's using it for. I just wish there was a bit less 'the sky is falling' mentality, is all...

  • it's a bit different when you are in Government. We are borrowing $250 Million per week just to fund things as they are. Wait and see what is spelled out in the Budget. All politicians make promises or say things that later they change their minds about. That's life, that's reality. Frankly if personal tax rates are cut and GST goes up it motivates me to work harder and smarter to earn more so that more money I earn goes into my pocket, then the money I decide to spend is up for grabs.

  • John Key 'the mouse that didn't roar ...'

  • Why did I waste my vote on this tool....

  • Hmmmm about tht...

  • Gold... pure gold... thanks for posting!

  • @BinaryReader I'll 2nd that! For low income earners it raises the tax to 35% up front from Gross income

  • Gutted, pants are down Mr Key & photos are on the net!

  • reminds me of george bush senior and his famous "no new taxes" statement.. which was a campaign lie.. needless to say, he was a one term president. once this clip starts getting repeated in the next election campaign, it's not going to matter what he says.. the lie is there and public. you cant trust someone who lies about policy like this.

  • John Key: 'Yeah, National is NOT going to be raising GST. National wants to CUT taxes, not RAISE taxes. ... a decade of deficits unless we get it right, but that comes back to our core point: The fastest way ... is to get New Zealand growing again ... if we do a half decent job of managing our economy that won't be happening, it's NOT on our agenda." READ HIS LIPS! So what happened Mr Key? Poor management? Broken promises!

  • hahaha, snapped. i hope every baby boomer that voted him in watches him lie to their face in this clip

  • thank you to the arseholes that voted for change - maybe it's time to think about moving to australia.
