guys i am a complete newbie in ubuntu (7.10) linux and i have a problem....when i acrivate the 2nd tft monitor i lose the compiz extra effects...any ideas?
on nvidia cards, you can change th settings through the nvidia-settings panel. This will allow you to change the resolution of each of the monitors. As far as having two different screens with different resolutions, i have managed to do this but the other monitor either cuts of the excess screen or the screen is squeezed, and this ruins the whole effect.
So your using Xinerama, not twinview, and both your monitors are the same resolution?
I'm trying to use xinerama + Xgl + compiz, but I have two screens with different resolutions. Do you know if this is possible or if anyone has it working?
Contact me at my email topgan1(at)clug(dot)gr and I will give you my xorg.conf to see how is it done. Im using two monitors with DIFFERENT resolutions.
I believe twinview uses Xinerama ... I've heard about Xinerama that you can't move windows from one screen to the other and he does that in this movie, so he must be using TwinView i guess. But well it looks really nice, funny ro see the rain on your desktop, still try to get it working on my MX440 ... no luck so far. I'll get a new PC with a 7600GT in a couple of months so i can enjoy the rain on my two screens to!

not possible yet.
none of the current compositing window managers will work with xinerama. no matter what you read, this is true, take it to the bank.

to clarify, that's xinerama proper, not nvidia, or anyone else's implementation of it. just the regular xinerama extension.
