how to install oblivion mods (vista)

Every time I do this I never see the mods in the "Data Files" thing for me...I'm trying to do one of the "better looking chars" mods that changes the faces and bodies, I downloaded all files required for it, extracted from Winrar, put in the data folder and i cant figure out why it wont work...any tips?

Hello, I have install Oblivion Construction Set and i can't find a oblivion patch but whenever i put esp files into Oblivion Mod Manager and then start Oblivion Launcher and go into data and tick the box it does not work, i can get loading screens and coloured maps working but any physical to do with the game it does'nt function especially alternative ship start by Robert Evrae.

@SHADOWDRAGONFROMHELL make sure that you include the .esp file in the only the data folder, and not in one of the folders inside of the data folder. if you do it right, the mod should pop up. if no luck, maybe re-install it again?

I have some weird trouble.. two days ago all my mods worked perfectly, i downloaded the stealth overhaul mod and innstaled it. when i tried to play none mods worked. they were alle crossed off in the data files.i have tried obmm, set comp windows xp. turned off uac and re-innstaled it in "/:C/ Oblivion". can someone help me?

@Bitrebarn This is because you possibly moved or messed with one of the folders or when that mod was downloaded it overwrited some of the other mods you had and only certain files are now working so its possible that is why.

oh, this is off the disk, but it should be around the same. try looking under C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common and then find oblivion.

@superbumbandit yes it works for windows it will be under c drive programs Bethesda Softworks oblivion Data, just extract all the folders from the mod you just downloaded into the Data folder.

I'm doing exactly what video does but the Mods won't work. I get the esp file and the textures and meshes put them in my Data fil, check the data file in the launcher then when I login and try and use it the mod isn't there. I'm trying to intall the Cute elfs mod btw.

For those people with WinRAR with access denied errors, I figured it out. instead of opening the mod with WInRAR, find winRAR's folder and run it as a Moderator, then select the Mod zip. I was surprised that it worked.

vista has an increased amount of security when compared to XP and even though you're the administrator vista has a program that prevents you from changing the data/contents of programs called User Account Control (UAC) if you go into the control panel you can turn it off, but I don't recommend it as it opens your computer to alot of other problems but it will work. Go to google and look up oblivion mods on vista and there should be a few pages explaining other ways around it...
