Not to distract from Brian Blade and Peter Bemstein, but this is one of the few Redman performances I've seen with him on alto, and I have to stay he still keeps the soul on the supposedly "soul-less" sax (no offense, I play alto, and I would still agree with that).
This level of musicianship is approaching some of the highest energetic realms. The power coming from this formation is just incredible. Each musician is so in tune and receptive to each other (and the environment around them) to create this possibility.
this is silly, but as soon as i saw the first video with Brian Blade, i thought to myself, "i should get a tattoo of this guys face somewhere on my body". after slapping myself, i changed my mind.
This guy went to harvard law and also got into Yale... I'd have to say this is one of the most focused young men on the face of the Earth. Im really glad je chose a different path then law.
yeah but i dont think that really means anything great musicians like him come from all walks of life , my best friend doesnt play an instrument but i can tell if he chose to he would be pro cause jazz musicians minds are built a certain way
Man... That doesn't mean anything.. The guy could have a great mind in theory and just overall understanding for this great artform but without complete commitment and focus you got shit. You know... What do you know. Your friend could be smart as can be but if hes lazy... hes just a waste. I know a few of those.
lol, it does take both yes, ive wasted alot of time when i could of been practicing, but that doesnt mean the non musician is lazy he just chose a different talent
ok... well youre comments are irrelevant... Cuz I don't really understand what point you are trying to prove. If they aren't in music then why are you so sure that they would become such great players.
Amen. Don't do it if it is only for the competitiveness. You should do it for whatever you love the most about it. I love it for the communication and the sensation I get when I hear or play a tune I enjoy moderately well.
That had nothing to do with Redman playing alto, but with the expression on his face there... eager to jump in and join the party, a little kid waiting for the candyshop to open. That's what music-making is about and these guys know it!!!
This album goes down as one of the classics, the writing, the playing, everything, you only get one chance in a life time to be a part of something like this. congrats to all
why is josh playing an alto? does he play that on the album? this is totally sick though, gotta love how the feel changes to walking for the sax solo. killin!
