I was asked by a friend to recommend some tracks from these soundtracks to listen to as background music.

It's been a while since I've revisited them, but the more I think about it the more I'm convinced they are masterpieces. At the very least they are clinics on the use of leitmotifs...for my money they are right up there with Star Wars.
