I'm going to go ahead and admit that I watched a bootleg of this musical...because I live in a place where knowledge of Broadway is practically non-existent, and the thought of going isn't even an option.
Anyways, this was amazing. Truly my favorite musical, whether it's a musical-movie or a live performance.
Saw this a few months ago in Sacramento and it completely blew me away. It deserves all those tonys. The emotion the actors put into the songs and the depth of their characters. . . just wow it didn't even look real it was so incredible.
and I may sound like a goof, but at the very beginning John Gallagher Jr has one of those contagious, adorable smiles. : )
have u ever even seen the musical?????? cuz if u have then u wuld kno that they r all suppose to be 15yr olds but that isnt the point hes voice dsnt even sound close to cracking in that part his just singing higher which adds more feeling if u have seen or even knew wat the musical was about u wuld appreciate it besides im sure u culdnt do any better

Such an emotional show. It really is sad that tourists get priority over real shows. It is true what they say, Broadway is dieing. We can only hope that some really awesome shows will come out and surprise us. Next to Normal did come out, but it has yet to grip me as much as Spring Awakening has. Well, we can only hope that Broadway will revive itself and actually put the hardcore musical lovers first for once instead of the tourists.
@jackskellingtonsora I know you wrote this comment a long time ago but boy were you right with the "hard core music lovers" thing. Now that they have American Idiot on Broadway.
Interesting. How exactly would you listen to "sports" or "academics"? I mean, I just love listening to football, don't you?
You probably aren't even aware of the background of this musical, how it flaunted one of the most widely controversial issues at the time and was originally written in the 1800s.
You are the fuckin loser for spaming this video. Apparently you do not know true emotion when you see it. And by the way, I do listen to what you call "real music" as well. If you mean rock and metal than yes I do. I also really enjoy musicals, and this happens to be one of the greatest with the emotion flowing from it from beginning to end. You sir need to start listening to some "real music" and get a life as well.
I saw this yesterday in STL, and the cast is amazing. I've never felt anything like this while seeing a musical. The actors have truly become their characters and feel what they feel. It's incredible.
this is my life. i cannot wait it is currently in STL until the 22nd and I'm seeing it twice and simply cannot wait! BEST MUSICAL TO HIT BROADWAY it's so eye opening
Out of all six of the broadway shows i've seen, Spring Awakening has truley touched me the most. I've also seen Beauty and the Beast, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Les Miserables, and The Phantom of the Opera-which were all amazing don't get me wrong-but i've never seen a show where i felt like i could truely relate to. i've never been in any of the characters situations but i feel strangely connected to it. maybe because they're all teenagers like me. Spring Awakening will be missed.
I agree. I've now seen Annie, Mamma Mia, and Phantom and nothing has made me feel anything like Spring Awakening did. Everything pales in comparison. When I saw it I was on the edge of my seat and I tapped my foot to the music. Like I couldn't take a breath or take my eyes off the stage. And I already had the soundtrack and had read the script! It is a life changing show that makes you think. It speaks to my soul. I just can't say the same for Annie :)
@thefreakandgeek just took the words from my mouth i totally agree with you being a young teen (14) i totally identify with the story especially Wendla
I remembered that when he was giving the speech about how bright the stars were. It made me cry so hard that the old lady in front of me frowned my way.
I can't believe this is closing! And for what? To make way for crap musicals like Shrek and Spiderman!? This show is freaking amazing! *starts crying* I really wanted to get a chance to see this.....:(
that's exactly what i've been saying. everything from this to [title of show] to 13 is closing and leaving us left with crap and wicked and in the heights and phantom, but all the stuff that's coming is crap.
i totally agree. it's not fair that wicked can stay open b/c of all the tourists that want to see a "safe, traditional musical," and the new and exciting award winners like spring awakening have to close. :.(
Well, at least we can say that there's one good show that may be getting all of the publicity, but will probably stay open for a while. Same with in the Heights and Phantom. I guess i just repeated myself there.
i dont think wicked is the one that u should be mad at there are musicals out there that seem riduclous to me such as Shrek. Wicked has a lot of hear and i love the story
Oh yeah, I completely agree with you. But we can always hope that an amazing movie director takes this on and completely surprises us with how rocking it is.
Its hollywood where are they going to find someone to actually do this show justice? Knowing Hollywood Melchior is Zac Efron Moritz is Jesse Mccartney and Wendela is Miley Cyrus.
Ya know what? That's what everyone said about RENT and look what happened! They got most of the original cast members to reprise their roles. There is ALWAYS hope
But Idina and Anthony and the rest of the cast members were adults in the play, so it worked like that in the movie. To have the original people of Spring Awakening, it would be really weird- 30 year olds not knowing about sex and acting young...
Exactly! If they have the right people do things it'll definitely work out, and from what I've conjured up in my brain, the movie could be done pretty well
I really really want to see this again. The first time I saw it I wasen't sure what was gonna happen first, you know how it is. If I saw it again, i'd be able to enjoy it way more.
I no im 13 and i always bring my libretto to school and kids at school tell me that they hate it because of the picture on the front but its such a beautiful story
i finally saw this, and it is increadible. this show changed me in sooo many ways. its everything a show can be. im only 12, but i love it. all my friends are like, its not the best show ever. im like, YES IT IS!!!! i also met the cast, including my idol, john gallager jr.
your sooo lucky!!!! I'm 13, gonna be 14, and my mom won't let me see it!!! JGJ is my idol too! Unfortunatly when I'm 18 and legal the original cast will be gone like the true Moritz Stiefel is already :( Wish all of them the best! They put on an amazing show from what I hear!
i totally feel ya. im like OBSESSED I seriously watch at LEAST one video from the show every day. even though ive seen them all. I watch the Bitch of Living like 3 times a day and have it on my myspace. I told my bf that when im a singer/actress imma find john gallagher and ask him to marry me <3 lol
Mr. Sheik's music, orchestrated for a small rock band supported by cello and bass, is often gorgeous in its soaring melodies and gentle rhythms, but its lushness can overwhelm Mr. Sater's moody lyrics, artful and evocative though they often are. And we often seem to be hearing the same notes — yearning, tempestuousness, anger — repeated in song after song; the show becomes saturated in a general plaintiveness that can be enervating.
at :04, I'm gonna sound stupid.. but who is that? I was thinking John Gallagher.. but it's not cuz the hair isn't that crazyy.. can anyone please tell mee?? <333
ive neva seen it, but i love it. this show changes my life, i dont care what others say about it. this is a real show. it shows what real people go trough ages 12 - 20. wheather people like it or think its inapropreate, its what we go through
My problem is more about getting my mother to see it. "Uh, it's about spring! And bunnies! Cute, fluffy bunnies! And there's no sex or suicide or back-alley abortions; I don't know why you'd think that."
all that i can say about this show is that it is addicting. it is 2 in the morning and i cant sleep because i cant stop singing the songs in my head. if u havent seen it u should! for sureeeeee.

i know many people that sound great in musicals. i love musicals like phantom of the opera and Jesus christ superstar.
they sound great. in JC superstar, they had some high pitch male voices that were amazing
this sounds like pure shit. it just sounds shitty, and then is advertised as great, and then people buy it. they just think it must be great
if an amateur did this, people would be making fun of him on here all day

@PowerSprinter it is NOT "pure shit"!
I have seen this musical and it was the most incredible, intoxicating, brilliant, and life changing show I have ever witnessed
and I'm not the only one who thinks so, considering this won 8 freaking Tonies!
so take your foot out of your mouth, and actually consider what you say before you post something so dramatically inaccurate!
I also love this commercial!
definitely rekindles my passion for Spring Awakening <3
