A local supermarket chain took over a supermarket in our county but the supermarket that was taken over moved into and remodeled an old Bell/Cala grocery space that was vacant for 6 years.

Two Safeways are closing in Portland because of all the theft there. This was announced recently. The REAL unemployment rate here is over 25% and no one is doing anything and employers do not call you and say you have to be duhh duhh (a cheer)to even get an interview. I use a walker due to a car wreck that was not my falt and employers will not hire me for something I did not even do. Emplolyers you are going to have to pay for me to be on welfare because of your crappy attitude and not hiring.

Stores are closing due to nothing but long term unemployment and no jobs in the cities that there are no jobs. portland has had two grocery stores close in the past 2 years due to all the companies that have closed their call centers and left millions of workers out of a job. my benefits are gone and do not know what i will do after 3 weeks. No one cares and deletes all my resumes that i send and no one calls me regarding jobs and IT IS NOT MY FALT they do not call me for work.

@PamelaRP Your story is a rather sad one. You are right, it is not your fault. But it is also not he fault of the companies not hiring you, they aren't making enough money to hire people either. Nor is it the fault of the stores that close down, it isn't like they closed down because they felt like it. They weren't making money, a business that loses money cannot stay open very long. There is a lot of blame to go around but it certainly does not fall on the shoulders of business people.

I remember at the store meetings how the mgrs would brag about how in the future walmart will be the only ones there. The mgrs were saying if we stick with wal mart we will have the best opportunities. What's funny is I was the last one left after 2 years everyone I got hired with was gone. they quit . Lately shoppers are only buying what is on sale and leaving. This puts retail stores into an extremely difficult situation. I live in a linear progression of grocery stores. Nearby, is the 7-11 and 7 to Midnite stores. Further down are a few more liquor stores and a Mexicana small grocercy store. Almost 2 miles away is both the Lucky and the Walmart stores. Yes, I'm sorta stocked up on canned goods, water and even Apple Juice too.
