Now, I haven't played this at all, but my guess why she doesn't fight back is this; because she isn't really 19 at all but the same age as the rest of the kids and of the same stature. In that case, it makes more sense why she would have difficulty fighting back. Maybe we as players are to perceive Jennifer as older than the rest of the children because we ourselves are? For me, that scenario makes the scene understandable. It's quite fascinating really.

I haven't played it but from what I've read it's about a woman getting stuck in an orphanage ruled by creepy kids. But there's a lot of stuff that doesn't seem to make sense if she really is an adult who just ended up there, so a lot of people think she actually lived in the orphanage when she was a kid and the game is her having a nightmare about her childhood after she grows up, and the supernatural elements are added by her unconscious mind.
