@bigtfromec I heard your Grandmother ask if that was Dillinger's first robbery. It was not his first, but it was his biggest up to that point. The First National Bank in East Chicago was Dillinger's 8th heist, and he got away with $20,000. From what I can tell, the two men your Grandmother saw with the machine guns were Harry Pierpont and John "Red" Hamilton, the first a mentor to Dillinger, the second one of Dillinger's longest associates. A wonderful video, by the way.
I believe it was Harry Pierpont shot OMalley. What I am really curious is whether the other guy was Clark, Makley or Van Meter. Red Hamilton was almost definitely the wheelman judging by the timeframe
Of course, if hard working people get murdered while Dillinger "robs the rich," I guess that's OK. The SOB shot down the overmatched security guard (probably not "the rich," or it would have been OK to murder him, I guess) RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER!! I'm sure her dad made a thorough study of Dillinger at these card games. COME ON FOLKS. UNBELIEVABLE. I was all excited when i started listening but things went down hill quick. It's as bad as all the other Dillinger-worship stuff out there.
@MafiaWars23 I'm a lot of things but a fool ain't one of them. You have a lot of nerve dismissing someone as a fool with the idiocy you're pushing on these sites. Of course, having read your other idiotic comments, I see why you keep your responses brief and why you don't try to answer the points raised.
@teller121 you didnt make any points lol? Look all I am saying that John Dillinger was a good person but I dont blame him. We live in a country where the rich can steal trillions and receive bailouts. Dillinger and Floyd were a different sort of Gangster. Whether you like it or not. Pretty Boy Floyd did give a lot of his loot to poor people. Only one murder can be attributed to him and that was a bounty hunter. His funeral remains the largest in Oklahoma history and is remembered fondly by many
She told me stories for 2 and a half hours last weekend. Thanks, Reivaj for the nice message. Grandma will be happy to hear that people still want to hear about the old days!
verry nice tell ur aunt and grandma thx for sharing and thx for putting it out on youtube. and i do to belive dillinger was really a nice guy i mean he never killed any civillian and he only took the banks money not the customers so ya he was pretty nice i guess
I have to say John Dillinger is a hard man to figure out. Nothing seemed unusual about his family except he lost his mom when he was young. There seemed to be two sides to this man good and bad. It is so sad. I have recently watched Johnny Depp portrayal of him. He did an excellent job. Maybe it was in part the result of the times
Not many people outside of Northwest Indiana know this but East Chicago is actually in Indiana. It's a small city between Chicago and Gary Indiana. Happy New Year!
Thanks for all of the nice comments. You've inspired me to capture a few more stories on video. Grandma lived through the depression. She has a lot of great stories.
hey man great vid. grandma n aunt flo r so cute haha they say everything in unison. Its great to have someone tell you first hand accounts of a guy like Dillinger. In my opinion he wasnt the best man, but he was a good guy. He was smart, had a lot of balls, and he stole from the thieves (banks, govt) which i think is not a crime, since often times he gave the money he stole back to the people who were down on their luck, like u mentioned in ur clip. Anyways, great movie n God bless both of them
Wonderful. It's good that some individuals go out of their way to interview people who were eyewitnesses to history. Especially a time period as fascinating as that one.
I know a lady whose father was friends with ed singleton, from time to time she told me as a child she remembered he would bring john dillinger around with him.
:O
Your aunt and grandmother are epic! Send them my regards.
