Excellent! I've thought about playing it on viola in G since it would be just like playing in D on a violin. I love this tune and your playing is great.
I have tab for it, but I haven't put it on my website as I've not had permission from Jay Ungar to do so. Go to the URL for my website (top right under the More info link) and email me your email address. I'll send you the PDF of the tab.
Wow, does this date from 1982? I never knew it was modern! I assumed it was a Scottish tune brought over to the States in the era of the American Civil War.
If you go to Jay Ungar's website, you'll see some "approved" lyrics - not written by him, by the way. I've never bothered with them, myself, but there you go! :-)
If you'd read the "more info" box on the top right of this page, you'd see quite clearly that, though it's written in D, I've arranged it in G - for the guitar! When I play this with my ceilidh band, we do it in the original key of D - but here I'm doing it in G - FOR A CHANGE!
Beautifully played (as always!) Maestro Will. If you get the chance; check the uncanny similarity this tune has to the traditional Scottish ballad, "The Road and the Miles to Dundee".
Thanks Andrew, I'll certainly do that. Oddly enough, I heard a tune the other day that had a similar resonance to Ashokan... mind you, with 13 semitones, there's little new under the sun! :-)
Great sound quality

Exquisite! Is there any tab for this ? It would probably take me years to learn anyway.

I've emailed Jay Ungar for permission to post music & tab of this arrangement. If he agrees, I'll post it - if not, not. :-)
