  • Great sound quality

  • Excellent! I've thought about playing it on viola in G since it would be just like playing in D on a violin. I love this tune and your playing is great.

  • They play it in D, but you did a nice job.

  • Very nice

  • Beautiful playing!

  • Just Excellently played. Nice job. 5/5*****

    RON

  • Damn, wish he filmed it straight onto fret-board so we could actually see how to play it lol

  • Very nice !!!

  • The Hudson Valley Youth Chorale sings this song and it is really nice

  • Hmm, I didn't know there were words to it.

  • Exquisite! Is there any tab for this ? It would probably take me years to learn anyway.

  • I have tab for it, but I haven't put it on my website as I've not had permission from Jay Ungar to do so. Go to the URL for my website (top right under the More info link) and email me your email address. I'll send you the PDF of the tab.

  • Wow, does this date from 1982? I never knew it was modern! I assumed it was a Scottish tune brought over to the States in the era of the American Civil War.

    Are there lyrics to it?

  • If you go to Jay Ungar's website, you'll see some "approved" lyrics - not written by him, by the way. I've never bothered with them, myself, but there you go! :-)

  • Great job! AND on a Larrivee!

  • Yes - I was just breaking the Larrivée in on this one. :-)

  • Very nice arrangement - I play it on the concertina

  • Great playing nice to be able play in any key, its what makes a good Musician.

  • If you'd read the "more info" box on the top right of this page, you'd see quite clearly that, though it's written in D, I've arranged it in G - for the guitar! When I play this with my ceilidh band, we do it in the original key of D - but here I'm doing it in G - FOR A CHANGE!

  • Wrong key for me on the fiddle but sounds very good on the guitar in G, I will have to try it!!!

  • Beautiful! Thanks for playing.

  • Beautifully played (as always!) Maestro Will. If you get the chance; check the uncanny similarity this tune has to the traditional Scottish ballad, "The Road and the Miles to Dundee".

Keep 'em rolling; you are an inspiration!

    Andrew

  • Thanks Andrew, I'll certainly do that. Oddly enough, I heard a tune the other day that had a similar resonance to Ashokan... mind you, with 13 semitones, there's little new under the sun! :-)

  • Outstanding, as always Mr.Fly!

  • Right on- beautiful arrangement!

  • Bravo...

  • Very nice indeed. As a resident of the Catskills I can feel the unity of landscape and song. are you posting the tab?

  • I've emailed Jay Ungar for permission to post music & tab of this arrangement. If he agrees, I'll post it - if not, not. :-)
