Excellent performance! Congratulations, even if it comes a bit late! Very impressive musicianship for any choir, never mind that this is a high school choir!
very much enjoy this one. even from the angle we see the director she is clear and precise very easy to follow with her direction. you all did a wonderful job!
I really like how you all performed this. My choir performed this and we did a much slower tempo but I like the way your Director made this sound! Very well done!
My only suggestions for improvement is that you drop the G's in burning and make it burnin'. It gives it a more authentic, spiritual feeling. Having crisper, harder consonants will add a to the overall genuine "feel" of the piece. The "k" in keep, the "c" in Christian journey, the "s" in soon, etc.
All due respect to you and your talented choir, I worked on this piece at a clinic in 2005 with the arranger, Dr. André Thomas, and he took it much, much slower. A more languid tempo allows for the ATB crescendos and decrescendos during the soprano solo to be more pronounced, and gives the descending bass rubato ("weary children") a chance to shine. Other than that, this was a great performance of the song.
Incredible. We did this piece back in high school madrigals and i always loved it. Your Dynamics and Diction were excellent and this tempo was perfect for it.
The Tempo was Perfect, however, it should have been conducted in 2 to capture the feeling of slowness to not show that the conductor is working too much
thank you for posting this video.. i have to learn this song all my myself to get into the very tip top choir at my high school and i had no idea where to start.. but now i know how it is suppose to sound.. thank you! they are great by the way!
this is very excellent!! my conductor decided to do it much slower to emphasize the "weight" and "struggle" in the song. but i really enjoyed this too!! but your dynamics were much like ours. awesome job!
my freshman choir did this last year. our conductor chose to make the vowels longer and less choppy even though it wasn't written like that. other that that we did the exact same thing as you. we got rave reviews. my high school is very musically talented.
I think the dynamics in this piece are wonderful and that you guys preformed it beautifully, although my personal taste is that it is slowed down a bit, it is still great! nice job
One of my favorite songs. I love it. We sing it about the same pace except a little slower at the keep your lamps trimmed and burning part. But this was really good!
I WILL remove any hateful comments about our Conductor. She is a wonderful person, and was the only reason why myself, and many others enjoyed High School. She's done so much for us.
at my school in my honor choir we did this song but we did it differently and there was only soprano and alto there was no bass or tenor so i had to sing alto (im a tenor) and we also sang Cantate Hodie OH and the christian journey soon be over we didnt do that part.... GREAT VIDEO THOUGH!! lol sry i talk alot! The ending was FANTASTIC the Crecsendo and then Decrecsendo! AWESOME!!!
...i dont think that this song is too fast at all. It seems to strike a good balance between the urgency of the song with the desire to always sing a capella music slowly.
Wow. My school is performing in Disney, and we're singing this. We're just starting to learn it. I hope we sound this amazing.
