I've seen warfare evolved from medieval to musket line infantry tactics through here. if historians refer this era as Renaissance (of rome culture) then.. this is more of a transition. in this clip we seen the use of rolling volley tactics (for musketry formation), and it turned out that this could make pike formations a mockery. in the next century we saw the two different formations combine into one. Line infantry, where three ranks deep are prefered over sixteen ranks line.

The changing from the colour orange into red, wasn't because it was cheaper. That's mostly said by those who doesn't know history. In 1650 the steward William II of Orange (father of king William III) put Jacob de Witt into prison. His son Johan the Witt became "raadpensionaris" a sort of prime-minster. Because of his problems with the House of Orange, he changed in 1653 the national flagg, Orange-White-Lightblue into Red-White-Darkblue, the present Dutch flagg.

He introduced the first full firing in line, with a defeating effect upon the enemy and a new way of marching during battles (which was the really reason of winning this battle). The English were only present, because they had to make some good, during the time of Leicester in Holland they betrayed the Dutch, thats the reason they were present at Nieuwpoort in the first line. And they did it well.
