Thing is: I can't think of a decent story to make it work, something more interesting than just a series of battles. Anyone got an idea how to do this?

Personally I'd love to tie together Zordon and Zedd's story. Zedd looks all kinds of messed up so he might bear a grudge against Zordon who may have injured him in an old battle. The most interesting aspect of the MMPR to me was their uniqueness. Later there's a ton of them but to begin with they were really the only things standing between earth and destruction, the final generation.
So the story could focus on how teens have to cope with being drafted into Earth's defenders while Zedd and Zordon's backstory and motivations slowly come to light. A cool thing would be that in a reboot even classic foes could pose new threats so an interesting cliffhanger could be the introduction of a badass Goldar XD

Something that came to my mind too would be to make the conflict Zordon-Zedd into something like Babylon 5s conflict between Shadows and Vorlons, both seeming good or evil respectively at the start but over time and with their backgrounds revealed there would be more to the conflict than mere good vs. evil.
Also: I think it might be interesting to make Tommy into some kind of Vegeta type. Heroic Jerkass, basically.

Zedd comes to earth, knowing Zordon is hiding there and wants to kill him. In hope to flush him out, he starts attacking population centers.
Zordon, following the destruction from his hideout, sees a group of teenagers engaging the attackers despite having no chance, to protect the civilians around them. So, he teleports them to safety and turns them into Power Rangers to protect thier world.
@bloodrunsclear So, they start battling Zedds minions, until they discover that Zedd has his own Ranger (Tommy) and they get beaten. But Tommy tells them, that Zordon only told them half the truth. Yes, Zedd is evil, but Zordons isn't as good either.
Zordons people tried to spread "order" in the cosmos, but felt that cultural differences result in chaos. So they removed every trace of culture from every planet they came to. Art, literature, history, everything. Zedd and others rebelled.
@bloodrunsclear Going from there, I'd try to find a way to have the Rangers try to drive both aliens and their fight off their planet before they destroy it while at the same time proving to Zordon, that cultural diversity doesn't necessarily result in chaos and fighting.

Honestly, a well-done, serious, designed-for-adults adaptation of Power Rangers would be great! The people that watched the first seasons of PR have grown up, after all. Most of us still enjoy watching superheroes fighting supervillains (at least I do), but I'd rather have cool powered armor than spandex and threatening villains than those jokes the regular show produced year after year.
I would draw on elements of the super sentai series. it gives you eons of time to work with..and leaves the potential for Bandora (Rita) to eventually return after Zedd gets offed

It could work, so long as you don't give Michael bay the directing job. And have Tommy from the original series make a cameo. I'd be against it otherwise, since bay would mess up the fight sequences by treating the rangers and the zords like part of the set, like he did in transformers

I just thought of this. A Power Ranger movie remake. Unlike the previous, it's more serious, more realistic. For instance, through real technology, their suits come onto them, rather than appear on them magically (like in the movie Iron Man 2). Another thing, their fighting an evil crime syndicate rather than evil beings from out of this world. It's just my imagination, but hey, I'm sure someone thought of this.
I have a suggestion for the next trailer that you do have it be Power Ranger Matched with Shikenger Footage for 2011. And Take footage from other movies as well.

I agree with Mamadrae's initial reaction. Just reading the title, I cringed a little. I was actually a big fan of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers way back in the day, but I eventually lost all interest in the show as it progressed. It started to disappoint me, seeming too juvenile, but maybe it was because I was simply maturing faster than the show at the time. Anyway, I was most impressed by this trailer. Bloodrunsclear never ceases to amaze how he can make ANYTHING badass!
Well, actually the original ranger uniforms were supposed to be power suits (looking more like armor in the movie version then the show) just presumably made of really light weight materials...FROM SPACE! XD
It might be nostalgia but I appreciated the show for not explaining everything in Star Trek like detail. They did in later seasons however at least try to go deeper into the history and characters which I also appreciated. Its like the show matured along with its audience.
Hahaha, seeing as I aspire to be a film director, I find it funny how in a list I made of media I want to adapt into badass films, Power Rangers is one such that I wanted to make. I think something decent can come from this, if made properly. And if they don't do this by 2017, then I will.
Other desired media to adapt: Pokemon, Transformers (done RIGHT this time!!!) and most of all, BIONICLE.

@runrabbit119 YESH! I'm already working on scripts and concept art, I am EXTREMELY ambitious about a BIONICLE film series. I know a ton of CGI will be needed, like motion capture used in both Transformers and Avatar, except AVatar had much more CG because of Pandora. For the Island of Mata Nui, possible filming locations are Norway and New Zealand. Just the characters will need to be CG for the first few films. Yeah I've... really thought a lot about this idea... :3

@bloodrunsclear : Watch Power Rangers RPM its considered the "DARK KNIGHT" of the power rangers franchise, i havent watched it but i heard it removes so much of the campiness and exchanges it with an actual plot, horrific fridge logic in terms of the Power Rangers in the end failing to prevent the fall of earth, and death is recognized as wel.

very good trailer, one of the best in a little while (no offence intended, all of your work is very good and creative) i totally approve of using gi joe, iron man and transformers clips, brilliant choices. I also liked the footage of silke spectre, maybe she has a special suit, made to be flexible and thinner materials?

I agree with Mamadrae's initial reaction. Just reading the title, I cringed a little. I was actually a big fan of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers way back in the day, but I eventually lost all interest in the show as it progressed. It started to disappoint me, seeming too juvenile, but maybe it was because I was simply maturing faster than the show at the time. Anyway, I was most impressed by this trailer. Bloodrunsclear never ceases to amaze how he can make ANYTHING badass!

I will freely say I was never a fan of the show. When I saw you had done a trailer I actually kinda cringed.
I was pleasantly surprised though. I agree with the power armor idea, at the same time how does one go doing fancy martial arts moves in power armor?
Still, it would be a fun movie to see, even for a non-fan like me. :)

Well, actually the original ranger uniforms were supposed to be power suits (looking more like armor in the movie version then the show) just presumably made of really light weight materials...FROM SPACE! XD
It might be nostalgia but I appreciated the show for not explaining everything in Star Trek like detail. They did in later seasons however at least try to go deeper into the history and characters which I also appreciated. Its like the show matured along with its audience.

Hahaha, seeing as I aspire to be a film director, I find it funny how in a list I made of media I want to adapt into badass films, Power Rangers is one such that I wanted to make. I think something decent can come from this, if made properly. And if they don't do this by 2017, then I will.
Other desired media to adapt: Pokemon, Transformers (done RIGHT this time!!!) and most of all, BIONICLE.

@runrabbit119 YESH! I'm already working on scripts and concept art, I am EXTREMELY ambitious about a BIONICLE film series. I know a ton of CGI will be needed, like motion capture used in both Transformers and Avatar, except AVatar had much more CG because of Pandora. For the Island of Mata Nui, possible filming locations are Norway and New Zealand. Just the characters will need to be CG for the first few films. Yeah I've... really thought a lot about this idea... :3
