The battle at Prokhorovka as the largest tank battle in history is simply just a myth. Germans had 92-109 APV's and russians maximum 393 between 10.7-12.7.43 In fact, it is smaller than a battle that took place between the French and the Germans in 1940. In front of Gembloux on May 14-15, two full-strength Panzer divisions (each with about 300 tanks) squared off with two full-strength French Light Mechanized Divisions (each with about 260 tanks).
Exactly. The biggest tank battle was fought at Kursk, between German and Soviet armored forces. And the second biggest tank battle was fought in 1940, between Franch and German.
I wish I was able to attend the funeral ceremony. I know many of my American submarine brothers made the trip and saluted them.

@mozorov A human loss is a human loss no matter what language? Funny, coming from Russians, who have zero respect for other nations, cultures, languages. How many tiny nations have you occupied and forced them to speak your language? How many USSR war criminals, who burned pregnant women alive, have recieved medals of honor from Putin?
I'll second lurcherlink. Death to russia. I hope all your croc of shit submarines sink.
@normalais Odd. Here I thought that Americans weren't much different. I wonder what happened to all those Native Americans? Europeans (and later Americans) took their land away from them, slaughtered them and forced the remains into reservations like they were some kind of animals, and not people.
When I say "USA" and "Holocaust" what comes to your mind? For me its Philippine Interment Camps. You've occupied Philippines (at time under Spanish control, true)...
@normalais ... And when they asked for their liberty, you didn't give them any. They rebelled, and you reconquered them. And during that war you've established these "interment camps" into which you've forced Filipinos. Now, as this wasn't bad already, there were quite a few instances of Filipinos being rounded up for questioning, tortured, and then executed. Now let's move to some more recent events, shall we? For example, the age old debate over the nukes dropped on two Japanese cities?
@normalais The common argument used to justify nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was that if you didn't do it, many more would've died in the following invasion, Japanese and American alike, so you've chosen between lesser evil. Now why did you have to invade the Japan in the first place? They were pushed back to their mainland, their armies were under-supplied, their morale low. And it is also well known that they depended on trade for any natural resources, at least before invading China and...
@normalais ...Gaining some resources for themselves. And even then they were depended onto trade in order to gain a lot of resources. At the end, with a year or so of blockade the Japanese would be forced to surrender because their economy would've failed completely, they wouldn't have enough resources to keep their infrastructure up an going, and public riots and internal security would've posed a much more significant issue than their pride and their now former empire.
@normalais Those are just a few examples. I am not saying that because USA did it, it's right thing to do. I condemn all atrocities that ever happened. Those caused by my people, those caused upon my people, those caused by Japanese, those caused by Russians, those caused by Americans and those caused by anyone else. But world is not black and white, where NATO, USA and their allies would be white and the rest of the world black. At the end, the world is but shades of gray.
on the pictures one can perfectly see the construction of sowjet submarines! The actual pressure hull for the crew is separated from the missile silos, which surround the inner hull, that greatly increases the survivebility!
They soldiers, and soldiers sometimes perish. That that have not helped them, let it remains on Putin's conscience and other politicians. And these people-heroes!
Are you stupid ? It is a biggest nuclear submarine , with 20 intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads, and also 2 nuclear reactors, and several nuclear-tipped torpedoes. Yeah right, I bet US would let the whole world in to see the secrets.
I don't understand how u can morn the people on Kursk, but in the same time, be a fan of Putin. He's the main responsible 4 that tragedy. 4 1 week he let those people stay under the water. He was on vacation at that time. The navy is also responsible. If they would've accepted the US help, those sailors would've been saved. It is the russian authorities & Putin's fault because those people died.
Then how come the American subs were not harmed in any way? Are you that stupid? It was a torpedo that exploded inside the sub that led 2 it's destruction. But those people could've been saved if Putin & the russian navy would've shown more interest. They didn't care about those people & they let them die. The main responsible is Putin & then, the russian navy. Americans had no involvement in that accident. They were just monitoring the exercises, but they kept their distance.
Yeah, CIA has done a lot of bad things in it's history. But they were not involved in the Kursk's tragedy. The fact that the sub sank was because of bad equipment & the death of those men was Putin's & Russian navy's fault. It was because of their attitude towards human life that those men died. They could've been saved, but nobody did anything 2 save them. Putin was on vacation when he received the news that Kursk sank & he didn't care. He let those people die. That's the truth.
Why would they load inferior missiles on such a superb vessel? I can't see this. The Russian Mariners are proud, young men, like the sons of most seafaring nations. I am American with a German heart . It aches for all. I never understand why Putin would have not cared nor the Russian naval command.
It's not like it was under Stalin.
Will we ever find out what really did go on.
What about the USA 'Thresher' She went down... What was wrong there????
Look, what happen in the Kursk was not an "inferior" torpedo, it was a defected 1. That's why it exploded. & the Russian mariners may be "proud young men", that's useless if they don't get proper training AND defected equipment. Being proud does not compensate 4 the lack of training & 4 bad equipment. Putin didn't care abt those people because he is a soviet educated moron. He doesn't give a damn abt human life. He rather let those people die than 2 accept help from the Americans.
Man, Putin let those people under the water 4 almost a week. Nobody could've done anything abt that torpedo, but they could've rescue those mariners if they would've acted quicker. The Americans offered their help but the soviet Putin didn't want 2 hear abt it. He waited until the British offered their help, but that was 2 late. The Americans had all the equipment necessary 4 the rescue but when they arrived in Russian nobody offered any type of transportation 4 that equipment.
this is horrifying, inhuman. Well, I guess the Americans would have not allowed Russians to board their subs out of fear of giving away their secrets ... Stupid, they are known anyway. Wonder why they would allow the Brits ... But to kill these men deliberately is plain murder.
They allowed the Brits because they were not Americans. Anything is better 4 the soviet thinking Putin than the Americans. They didn't had the necessary equipment 2 rescue those people so they had 2 let somebody do it for the. U can check this 4 yr self. They even told it on discovery & national geographic. The Americans brought their equipment but nobody put any means of transportation at their disposal. They kept the Americans in that harbor until the Brits came but by then it was too late.
Kursk wasnt just a submarine. Kursk was a nuclear submarine missile cruiser. It couldnt be destroyed just like that. Only random and drammatic accident could kill it.
Babysun2plt you're right. America paid a lot to Russia. The torpedo (MK48) hit the room where kshval (supercavitation-torps) were kept, hence he second huge explosion that destroyed the Kursk. Saving the sacrified sailors, would have bring the truth to light, calling a Russian retaliation and possibly WWIII.
Yes RIP comrades, we never forget and never forgive!
MissileD11, The official report is kind of shady, It is a fact that the US was tracking its movement and even offered assistance when it sank (which could have saved many lives) but the Russian government refused. Due to the Russian refusal of assistance, all lives were lost on the Kursk, the Sailors on the Kursk waited for help which never came, may they rest in peace.
I think all of you people who have negative comments should have respect for all the Russian Sailors who lost their lives doing their duty for their country, even though it was an exercise mission gone wrong. I am a US Navy Sailor who has the utmost respect for all those Russian Sailors who lost their lives on the Kursk. They were doing their job just like I do my job, each and every one them had someone who cared for them, just like me and you. Let them rest in peace.

There are always conspiracy theories and those who believe them will never be convinced. Obama is not American, man never landed on the moon etc.
In the end the thing which gives me the most confidence that it was an accident caused by a Russian torpedo is that it is getting far too hard to keep a secret nowdays as the Iranian government is beginning to find out.
It is not that governments would not or could not do these things, it is just too hard to keep them quiet!
I did not know that. I assumed that the official report that was given by the govt was the official word. I knew there was a U.S. sub tracking the movements of the Kursk and that was about all we heard from the U.S. side.
MissileD11 my friend, this sub was the Memphis. I saw the signature of the MK48 myself and talked to some marine officers (remember my father-in-law was high ranked officer in the Red Army) and for all of them there is no doubt at all. Admiral Popov wanted to enlighten the nation about it: he was fired, put on pension and home arrest. Logs founds have been classified at once, even some letters written by officers, have been destroyed.Nevertheless, it breaks my heart for those poor young guys.
The Kursk was the most sophisticate nuclear sub (Antei type) equipped with the newest technology of anti air-carrier missiles (Granit) and above all, the famous "Kshval" (fantastic rocket torpedos "flying" with a speed of 330 miles/hour). That such a hightec sub would embark 30 years old torpedos, is a crap that nobody here believe!
Could anybody recommend a book for me that describes the state of the art of russia's submarine fleet, military, science and/ ortheir development of planes? How the government supports/hinders new developments, refunds for scientists, what they want to make russia look like to the outside world and what the state of russia really is?? Any of those topics would be great, thanks
MilliVanilli, it's impossible to find books or revues - I tell you why. After the collapse of USSR, the state of Russian military was in the miserable condition everybody was aware of, there was no founds to restore the fleet. Since Putin, Russia has got back her full power, a very important part of the budget to the developpment of new technologies. You can find some hints on RT (Russia Today in English) but of course the actual state is classified. But believe-me, it's impressive.
The Kursk was sunk by a type 48 torpedo fired by a American Sub in error, the US were spying on the exercise, when they accidently rammed the kursk, they heard the torpedo tube doors open and thought the kursk was about to attack,so they fired and sunk it,they paid 2 billion dollars in compensation,in the guise of export credits, there have been 8 subs lost since the 1960's in this manner.
russia was offered help to rescue some of the crew but they took to long because of there pride i see a documentary on the families looking for anwsers its a shame that they all had to die when people could have been saved a real shame RIP
the thing on the men that i watched was on the news the day after the sinking the british navy offered help but where refused and the doc i watched was the families of the men onboard the kursk made it so your comment means any program made even by the families of the crew not to believe them shut up you clown
For everybody who can understand French, there is a fantastic reportage about this event. Many Experts from Germany and France contributed to it. This is surely a tragedy, but not what you think. I saw the first pictures of the Kursk after it was put on dry stocks, those pictures have been forbidden since. Russia could have saved the brave salilors, but that would have mean WWIII
so what your saying is that russia bribed the families to ask questions about there own government and how they could have saved the crew your the one talking bullshit
Being ignorant and narrowminded doesn't grant you the right to be rude or unpolite. Appearently you don't know a thing about what really happened. All what appeared in the medias about the cause of this explosion, is fiction. I mean Russian government didn't tell the truht. Now there is a"non-official" rapport, which is not any more a secret in Russia or in Europe (German ZDF and FR2 for example made very good reportages: look "Kursk un sous-marin en eaux troubles"): US torpedo is the reason.
The hole in the "Kursk" that was classified short after, shows clearly the signature of torpedo MK48 - a US torpedo which was launched by the "Memphis".
This is too horrible to imagine, but I do believe some people know more about this than I. Willing to listen and hear the side of explanation. There are now reports that verify the US torpedo being the reason for this terrible incident.
What else do they hide from the mother of the world??
Pretty sad that these brave men were victims of an incompetent military bureaucracy and government. The Russians have never placed a high value on the lives of their military or their citizens for that matter which explains their heavy losses in WW2.
I've been to the Kursk memorial a few times even done a honour guard once when I was over there with the Russian Convoy Club (Home Counties Branch). Always lay a wreath and a rose for the crew.
My salute to the crew of the Kursk and the brave sailors of Russia. Also to its namesake Kursk and those who died in the Battle of Kursk, one of the greatest battles in history. God bless Russia.
Good Video, Such a loss and Disaster for Russia, But it was ashame that the Russian goverment refused are Search and Rescue team (UK) to go and rescue the trapped sailors who were alive.
Its due to a military paranoia I'm afraid. Just think, we (The British) would have discovered all those secrets (that we probably already know anyway!) and so all those poor sods left alive had to slowly choke to death - makes one proud to be a human being doesn't it...........
Or, more likely, Russian technology, due to lack of funding had been poorly developed and maintained, and a fundamental malfunction of the HTP (Hydrogen Test Peroxide) used as propulsion for your torpedos, ignited and took the bow of the boat out. Any "stories" about Western submarines causing this damage, is just a cover I'm afraid. The real criminals here are the Russian authorities who refused help for their sailors, lest other countries see their technology. A disgrace to these brave men.
the music is giving me constant goosebumps.... combined with the pictures im having difficulty holding my tears back! it is a disgrace what was done to the Kursk... and i wouldnt be surprised for ONE second, if it WERE the fucking americans and their scheme to take over the world, not letting any other country become powerful! Fuck the military, fuck the wars, fuck the people in power! fuck them ALL!!!!
Health and safety onboard Russian war machines is an utter disgrace, human life is worthless in Russia, so anything could have happen, no point working out conspiracy theories that can't be proven anyway..
The Kursk disaster was a great human tragedy & feel for the famalies, but the fault is like Ozzy says " war pigs " the governments of our planet. I´m Portuguese/Amarican by the way. ONLY the Fucking war pigs, they should of all have been on that sub !!!
fuckin USA military. Fuck the people in power! fuck them all so hard they DIE! fuck the military powers in this world! it is what is keeping us back! and the song in this video is once again, beautiful russian musical piece! the russians were and are GENIUSES when it comes to music!
Sadly, without people in power - and military 'might' we (you, me - all 'free' peoples) wouldn't enjoy that privilige! Sorry, but that's the reality of this world in which we live..........
My salute to the patriotic crew of the Kursk. The video shows what a great vessel it was, What a tragedy! Our condolences to the families of the victims.
Warriors. Warriors betrayed by their country, a country which they dearly loved and was willing to defend. May they rest in peace, and may God be with their families. May God also help Putin and the others who turned a blind eye to their comrades in times of adversity. Farewell, comrades.

For example, the age old debate over the nukes dropped on two Japanese cities?
morisdrion 1 year ago
@normalais The common argument used to justify nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was that if you didn't do it, many more would've died in the following invasion, Japanese and American alike, so you've chosen between lesser evil. Now why did you have to invade the Japan in the first place? They were pushed back to their mainland, their armies were under-supplied, their morale low. And it is also well known that they depended on trade for any natural resources, at least before invading China and...
morisdrion 1 year ago
@normalais ...Gaining some resources for themselves. And even then they were depended onto trade in order to gain a lot of resources. At the end, with a year or so of blockade the Japanese would be forced to surrender because their economy would've failed completely, they wouldn't have enough resources to keep their infrastructure up an going, and public riots and internal security would've posed a much more significant issue than their pride and their now former empire.
morisdrion 1 year ago
@normalais Those are just a few examples. I am not saying that because USA did it, it's right thing to do. I condemn all atrocities that ever happened. Those caused by my people, those caused upon my people, those caused by Japanese, those caused by Russians, those caused by Americans and those caused by anyone else. But world is not black and white, where NATO, USA and their allies would be white and the rest of the world black. At the end, the world is but shades of gray.

StiviGun1 2 years ago
don tell bullshit only responsable are the 2 americains sub !!!
nicohzv 2 years ago
Then how come the American subs were not harmed in any way? Are you that stupid? It was a torpedo that exploded inside the sub that led 2 it's destruction. But those people could've been saved if Putin & the russian navy would've shown more interest. They didn't care about those people & they let them die. The main responsible is Putin & then, the russian navy. Americans had no involvement in that accident. They were just monitoring the exercises, but they kept their distance.
StiviGun1 2 years ago
I can't imagine that Americans had anything to do with this tragic 'accident'
I know that our CIA has done much evil, but this? No, I don't believe this.
I feel so sorry for the all the men that were killed in their youth ...
MsMieze 2 years ago
Yeah, CIA has done a lot of bad things in it's history. But they were not involved in the Kursk's tragedy. The fact that the sub sank was because of bad equipment & the death of those men was Putin's & Russian navy's fault. It was because of their attitude towards human life that those men died. They could've been saved, but nobody did anything 2 save them. Putin was on vacation when he received the news that Kursk sank & he didn't care. He let those people die. That's the truth.
StiviGun1 2 years ago
Why would they load inferior missiles on such a superb vessel? I can't see this. The Russian Mariners are proud, young men, like the sons of most seafaring nations. I am American with a German heart . It aches for all. I never understand why Putin would have not cared nor the Russian naval command.
It's not like it was under Stalin.
Will we ever find out what really did go on.
What about the USA 'Thresher' She went down... What was wrong there????
MsMieze 2 years ago
Look, what happen in the Kursk was not an "inferior" torpedo, it was a defected 1. That's why it exploded. & the Russian mariners may be "proud young men", that's useless if they don't get proper training AND defected equipment. Being proud does not compensate 4 the lack of training & 4 bad equipment. Putin didn't care abt those people because he is a soviet educated moron. He doesn't give a damn abt human life. He rather let those people die than 2 accept help from the Americans.
StiviGun1 2 years ago
OK, I may not know the details as much as I so. Ir's desturbingto hear that your own government did not lift afinger.
When you claim that they would not let the Americans help, What could they have done, if a defected torpedo exploded?
Wasn't it beyond help ? Things like that bother the hell out of me. Is does not matter what nationalitiy they were ...
MsMieze 2 years ago
Man, Putin let those people under the water 4 almost a week. Nobody could've done anything abt that torpedo, but they could've rescue those mariners if they would've acted quicker. The Americans offered their help but the soviet Putin didn't want 2 hear abt it. He waited until the British offered their help, but that was 2 late. The Americans had all the equipment necessary 4 the rescue but when they arrived in Russian nobody offered any type of transportation 4 that equipment.
StiviGun1 2 years ago
this is horrifying, inhuman. Well, I guess the Americans would have not allowed Russians to board their subs out of fear of giving away their secrets ... Stupid, they are known anyway. Wonder why they would allow the Brits ... But to kill these men deliberately is plain murder.
MsMieze 2 years ago
They allowed the Brits because they were not Americans. Anything is better 4 the soviet thinking Putin than the Americans. They didn't had the necessary equipment 2 rescue those people so they had 2 let somebody do it for the. U can check this 4 yr self. They even told it on discovery & national geographic. The Americans brought their equipment but nobody put any means of transportation at their disposal. They kept the Americans in that harbor until the Brits came but by then it was too late.
StiviGun1 2 years ago
yes, I'm agree with you

Babysun2plt you're right. America paid a lot to Russia. The torpedo (MK48) hit the room where kshval (supercavitation-torps) were kept, hence he second huge explosion that destroyed the Kursk.

It is not that governments would not or could not do these things, it is just too hard to keep them quiet!
macthefireman 2 years ago
I did not know that. I assumed that the official report that was given by the govt was the official word. I knew there was a U.S. sub tracking the movements of the Kursk and that was about all we heard from the U.S. side.
MissileD11 2 years ago
MissileD11 my friend, this sub was the Memphis. I saw the signature of the MK48 myself and talked to some marine officers (remember my father-in-law was high ranked officer in the Red Army) and for all of them there is no doubt at all. Admiral Popov wanted to enlighten the nation about it: he was fired, put on pension and home arrest. Logs founds have been classified at once, even some letters written by officers, have been destroyed.Nevertheless, it breaks my heart for those poor young guys.
Metathron66 2 years ago

MilliVanilli2007 2 years ago

The choice was tragic.
Metathron66 2 years ago
so what your saying is that russia bribed the families to ask questions about there own government and how they could have saved the crew your the one talking bullshit
carsieplg 2 years ago
Being ignorant and narrowminded doesn't grant you the right to be rude or unpolite. Appearently you don't know a thing about what really happened. All what appeared in the medias about the cause of this explosion, is fiction. I mean Russian government didn't tell the truht. Now there is a"non-official" rapport, which is not any more a secret in Russia or in Europe (German ZDF and FR2 for example made very good reportages: look "Kursk un sous-marin en eaux troubles"): US torpedo is the reason.
Metathron66 2 years ago
The hole in the "Kursk" that was classified short after, shows clearly the signature of torpedo MK48 - a US torpedo which was launched by the "Memphis".
Metathron66 2 years ago
This is too horrible to imagine, but I do believe some people know more about this than I. Willing to listen and hear the side of explanation. There are now reports that verify the US torpedo being the reason for this terrible incident.
What else do they hide from the mother of the world??

Or, more likely, Russian technology, due to lack of funding had been poorly developed and maintained, and a fundamental malfunction of the HTP (Hydrogen Test Peroxide) used as propulsion for your torpedos, ignited and took the bow of the boat out. Any "stories" about Western submarines causing this damage, is just a cover I'm afraid. The real criminals here are the Russian authorities who refused help for their sailors, lest other countries see their technology. A disgrace to these brave men.
