Raynauds suck! when i went to wolfridge for school during the winter we spent like 90% of our time outside in the freezing weather and my hands turned this really dark purple blackish color and they were super painful and my chaperone freaked out and its just really embarassing always having purple or red cold hands! i take an iodine supplement but it doesnt really do anything, does anyone know of anything else to help us peopel who have raynauds? w/o moving......:)
@JadeeLouiiseeMJ hahahahahaahahah your comment made me lol'd so much !!!!!!!!!!! you're awesome "it's so attractive..." hahahahahahaha and i know exactly what you mean... i hate it.
your an idiot, cayenne pepper pills burn your stomach, ginger pills on the other hand do not have any bad side effects unless you dont like the taste of ginger
@VonLeachim when first got diagnosed i searched ALOT to find things that will help me out. I take ginko biloba pills, ginger pills, and then i make ginger and rosemary tea <3
Actually dezkod it really depends...I think the doctor knows you have primary raynauds syndrome, and that's more annoyance then anything, secondary is the stuff you need to worry about, cause if you have secondary, that's when scar tissues scar and you need amputaion and everything, the reason why is because secondary you can get an attack by simply sticking your hand in a freezer, primary is like sitting on your foot...takes a while for it to get numb
It's actually horrible and I get the chilblains with it on which I've had to have a punch biopsy. I struggle to write and do things for myself. My hands are always white or blue. Lucky me.
I've had this since I was born. It sucks! I got frostbite on my right hand during high school tennis practice when it was 40 degrees outside. I saved most of the tissue, but there's a small spot that lost all of the nerves. I have extensive nerve damage on most of my fingers (metal working doesn't help).
The time period where my skin goes white only lasts for a few minutes, then goes straight to blue, then purple splotches, then black. I had it go past my fingers tonight, up to my wrists.
I have it too :( I've had it since 15 I'm now 23... I have been trying to work out what causes it back then.... I recall doing a lot of sport in very very cold weather when I was 14-16 and generally only in shorts and t-shirt, I then noticed my hands started to go funny colours.... Now my hands are just always cold or sweaty and generally red... DOES ANY ONE HAVE A SIMILAR STORY?
@luxnhuntin im 16 and i think i just started noticing it within a year... i dont really live in many cold areas, i dont think anything caused it physically or environmentally, but i do notice i get attacks at certain times of the day, but thats probably because i have certain classes in different rooms
@ArtseyGurl Sometimes the slightest temp drop from switching to a colder room will trigger that. I've had reynauds for bout 10 yrs . Sit on your hands when they get cold while your in class. Your own body heat will warm them up. Thats how I get mine to warm up.
@Obsidian1392 when your fingers go red your in what we call the hyperemic phase of reynauds syndrome.. this phase may be accompanied by throbbing pain.. when your fingers are white the arterioles and/or arteries in your fingers are severly constricted this is due to either emotional stress or an unusual sensitivity to cold tempreatures
I can be in a room that's comfortable and I not be cold, but my hands and feet will be freezing. It's very annoying. Something as small as a quick brush of cold air can set it off. What's even weirder is during the day it's easy for my hands and feet to get cold, yet at night it's completely opposite. One night when I was in college, my hands became very warm, so I dipped them in ice water for 3 solid minutes. Less than 5 minutes later they were warm again. Very, very weird.
Fortunately, Ive taken to heart suggestions from boy scouts to keep my core warm before my extremities. So, when I have to go out in the cold, and used to wear glove liners and gloves, now I wear just gloves, but perhaps 4 layers of shirts (t-shirt, under armor, turtleneck, and sweatshirt) along with a coat, and I can withstand a great deal more cold and exposure. It may seem counter intuitive, but it has worked for me, and Ive suffered with this for years.
Does anyone get blue on top of your hands.. not just your fingers, cause I have recently been getting blue on the back of my hands and sometimes down my arms!
Can sustained aerobic exercise help prevent the symptoms from recurring? My reasoning is that sustained aerobic exercise raises body temperature, which in turn causes blood vessels under the skin to dilate so that heat can be dissipated.
I have Raynaud;s but it's only the primary. When I was diagnosed with it, my doctor knew very little about it and I have had no treatment. But this is really helpful. It really is annoying but I can cope. Although I have had occasions where my toes especially have turned blue then black from Raynaud's

I have " FLAGGED " this video because of the reaction to it from simon 44 (above)
He is reacting to having been told he could have to have the affected part amputated
when in fact a simple transection of the nerve causing constriction of small arteries in that area MIGHT POSSIBLY be needed in severe cases only !
TheElement328 (below) is also being alarmist which is understandable after
the error in this video - Hope it gets corrected soon !
