Ah! Dieu, tu semas dans nos âmes, etc. RODRIGUE Les voilà! DON CARLOS Je frémis! Je me meurs à sa vue! RODRIGUE Courage!
FINALLY, it is my favorite opera but the cassette VHS on which I had registered(recorded) him(it), is not useful any more; I weep with joy to find, grace you my favorite apéra, for its political, historic thémes and phlosophiques!
@cantanteporsiempre You rarely ever hear the majority of baritones' low notes in this duet (outside of studio recordings). Posas are paid for high notes, legato and delivery of text, not low B naturals.
Love this beautiful song. Just noticed Alagna didn't take a pause where Villazon and Kaufman do to take a breath. Wonder that was a direction. Look forward his performance at MET coming November.

Hampson looks like a young baritone I knew... Actually in the early 90s, there were a whole bunch of baritones who were 6 ft+, oblong face, big chin, short nose... They all looked like John Tesh and Bob Goen.
When I first saw this on You Tube, I thought that Karita Matilla was Alagna's mother - oops! It wasn't until I got th DVD that I realized she was his love interest. That might explain the lack of chemistry... She does have a beautiful voice & does a fantastic job in this opera. Alagna always thought himself an outsider in
France, so this is a perfect projection of that part of his character...
The perfect Don Carlo... and Rodrigo.

And the duet finishes so:
Dieu accepte notre serment

The best role Alagna has ever done. The vulnerability of the character...the youth..the sincerity. Alagna is a great antihero. Delightful indeed.

Hampson looks like a fantasy hero with this hair :D Like Aragorn.
But the performance is great.
