The USA will definitely be able to compete. Not just from here on out, but from the mid 90's onward. 8 Different teams could have won this tournament if they got the bounces and some players on hot streaks. As Canadians we have to accept that we aren't always going to win the gold medals. Regardless of who wins a tournament though, noone will ever change the fact that hockey is our game.

Americans just dont understand the way we canucks live. 2 things are found in EVERY town, even in small towns, a Hockey Rink and a Curling Rink.Its cold 6 months of the year, if we do anything we skate. Kids here skate before they learn to walk well. Its somthing we do, we learn, we watch and we live... not just some ... MOST canadians . Kids here show promise in the sport, Hockey Canada gets involved to develop that player to see how good he can become, its more about Infrastucture.

@ThatOilersKid - Rules apply equally. If Canada can't send NHL players, nor America, then neither can Russia or anyone else. Hence, there would be absolutely no competition for Canada, from where there are plenty of non-professional players (World Juniors anyone?).

@ThatOilersKid - I was around and watching Lillehammer - actually, might have seen 1992's as well. I recall that pros started getting invited during the 1994 Games, and have been since then. But I'm confused; is it only the Canadian committee saying they won't send our pros? If so, talk about having an unlevel playing field, even if it only a couple of pros on the Finland or Russian teams against a no-pro Canadian team. Makes no sense.

You guys are still whining about this? My wife and I got the privilege of visiting our Northern neighbors by seeing two pre-lim games (USA vs Swiss and Canada vs Norway). The Vancouverites were excellent and hospitable hosts after a few brewskis. Managed to bump into Peter Forsberg between games as the Swedes were going to watch the Canadian match, who was courteous, friendly and all smiles. That night the celebration went much longer than we could and a good time was had by all. Cheers, Canada!

So not only is hockey Canadian and not swedish but the first form of "feild" hockey wasent even swedish. The sweds have a good team and good players but hockey is and always will be Canadian. True north strong and free.

Americans just dont understand the way we canucks live. 2 things are found in EVERY town, even in small towns, a Hockey Rink and a Curling Rink.Its cold 6 months of the year, if we do anything we skate. Kids here skate before they learn to walk well. Its somthing we do, we learn, we watch and we live... not just some ... MOST canadians . Kids here show promise in the sport, Hockey Canada gets involved to develop that player to see how good he can become, its more about Infrastucture.

@ThatOilersKid - I was around and watching Lillehammer - actually, might have seen 1992's as well. I recall that pros started getting invited during the 1994 Games, and have been since then. But I'm confused; is it only the Canadian committee saying they won't send our pros? If so, talk about having an unlevel playing field, even if it only a couple of pros on the Finland or Russian teams against a no-pro Canadian team. Makes no sense.

You guys are still whining about this? My wife and I got the privilege of visiting our Northern neighbors by seeing two pre-lim games (USA vs Swiss and Canada vs Norway). The Vancouverites were excellent and hospitable hosts after a few brewskis. Managed to bump into Peter Forsberg between games as the Swedes were going to watch the Canadian match, who was courteous, friendly and all smiles. That night the celebration went much longer than we could and a good time was had by all. Cheers, Canada!

@wingmancole No way is it Canadas sport y'all didnt invent it. Pretty sure Hockey came from Swedens Bandy. Therefore its Swedens sport and we are the best, and as I remember Sweden is the only team to get both gold and the championship in hockey. Canada didn't even medal this year!!!

@AmericanskBlatte It is an Canadian sport, the hockey that the world knows now as ice hockey was invented in Canada, It is based off a curved bat and a ball form of game that was started up in England. So not only is hockey Canadian and not swedish but the first form of "feild" hockey wasent even swedish. The sweds have a good team and good players but hockey is and always will be Canadian. True north strong and free.
