I haev always liked this piece but did not know the name or composer and yesterday. I was at Target I heard a sliver of this piece. I dropped what I was doing rushed to the display case to see what CD it came off of. I took a picture of the list with my phone and google and listed to every piece til I found the name of it. Gymnopedie No 1 Satie.
I'm only playing the piano since ~8 Months and I tried this piece...but I really didn't know how to stretch my fingers that far it seemed needed to...now I see that you need to work with the pedal >< And my Keyboard don't have one...
But I leanred much :D Thanks for that and your beautiful playing.
Good performance. I had a question. Did you use the pedal to sustain the sound between the first bass note and the following chord in the left hand? Because from the score sheet, it appears the chords are to be played by the right hand but that is not possible if you're going to play the melody with the right hand. Thanks
I prefer your interpretation, even though it's played with an electric piano.
This piece is not so easy to perform as it might seem. There are people who play it too fast, too slowly and, most of all, they don't take enough care of the dynamics.
I just have to tell you again how much I love your interpretation of this piece. Some pianists play this song too fast, but your timing is absolutely perfect. I especially enjoy how you add depth to portions of the piece. The extra resonance is breathtaking!
You guys must be pretty darn good. Can't say why you don't care for this but it is really a good version except for the page turn. Has good timing and slight moto when needed. Just a funny sounding piano not bad playing. I like it.
thisis the kind of music that reminds me of being at my grannies and gramp's old place during the christmas holidays when i was a kid. just sitting by one of those huge windows with a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream on top, looking out at the snow covered world, and pondering on whether to go out and play in the snow or not. it's weird, i know, but that's the feeling i always get when hearing this piece :3
Satie's music is exceptional. And you did a great job. It is played so good I feel him and not just some guy trying to play his music. Wonderful performance!
This is odd but i heard this piece while i was watching a clip about brain surgery and new methods for it, and this was the background music. Thank you so much for sharing this on youtube and very well played. Thanks :)
Yamaha makes such good pianos. I just bought a DGX-640 and this is the first song I wanted to learn to play. It's been 15 years since I took piano lessons as a kid. Was confused as to how much of this song was supposed to be played with the left hand, the video was very helpful!
This song was also used in the first segment of the anime "Neo Tokyo". It took me several years before I was able to discover the composer and song name.

I agree. I downloaded the sheet music and have been trying to play it on my Casio keyboard (76 keys), but, my left hand is having a problem with the jumps. *sigh* Nice to listen to though, and watch and learn
