  • i am TEO CHEW nang from INDONESIA

    I LIKE TEO CHEW SONG

  • The Teochew association in my country(Malaysia) despise the non-mandarin speaking and non-teochew speaking Teochews; moreover, there lack of teochew dialect learning books. I can't brush up my Teochew.

  • I'm a Teochew who came from VN , but in the last 30 someyears did not speak or hear this dialect, I found out I forgot lot , now people speak to me I tend to answer in Cantonese or Mandarin! In worst in English or Danish. Hope have chance to catch-up.

  • i would say this one is the best Teochew song

  • I am teochew from mum who came from vietnam, and visited family in teochew hometown in china for first time a few months ago.

  • I am Teochew and love to be Teochew.

  • very romantic and sweet song. teochow song so so good . i'm and all of teochow nan, in usa. canada, singapore, hongkong, thailand and vietnam.....

  • I'm a Teochew in Mainland China. It's quite a good song. But what concerns me is that less and less Teochew people can speak good Teochew because the influence of Mardarin..It's sad.

  • Does anyone know who sings this song?

  • @ruunapandanerd

in the begin the chinese hanzi say "song yik-lok" in cantonese

  • Hi

I am Thai Teochew in LA. I wished I could speak and read Toechew. I still watch the Teochew opera with my sister time to time. As you know, most Teochew in Thailand don't speak Teochew any more. They used to have a Teochew opera and sang in Thai. Anyway, we still have alot of Chinese cultures in Thailand.

  • Hello ! I'm a teochew from France whose parents came from cambodia. but my teochew is very bad with the time. :(

  • what is the different between teochew and hokkien?

  • What a beautiful song. Where can i buy this?

  • @Dnung8 you can download.

  • @15975407224

Hello, how can i do that? thanks

  • @Dnung8 i use a software to download the video from youtube.you can search such software from the internet. Or i can send it to you by email.my email is 466099231@qq.com

  • @15975407224 hi thanks for the advice..much appreciated. I was thinking of getting the CD or DVD which may also include other Teochew songs. I did download that song from the Youtube. Thanks again for your kind advice...gaginang.

  • @Dnung8 I don't think you can get Teochew CD or DVD in Australia. If you happen to visit HK, head up to the neighbouring city of Shenzhen. There are many music retail stores at the customs complex, and most shop owners at the site are Teochew.

  • @uniupload Hi, thanks for ur advice. Two years ago my family & I went to Macau for holidays and went across to Zhuhai. We were planning to go Shenzhen for a day but to get a visa was taking too long so we gave up. I am planning to go to Shantou may be next year and maybe visiting shenzhen on the way as well. I may be able to get the teochew cv or dvd. Thanks again

  • @Dnung8 If you live in Sydney, you can apply for a Chinese visa at China's Consulate General in Camperdown. The normal procedure shouldn't take more than 2 weeks. Welcome to Shantou. There are no more than venues of food and shopping here though. Chaozhou City is less than 1 hour commuting away. There are plenty of attractions around the city of historical and cultural interest. My YT background is of Chaozhou's Xiangzi Bridge, one of the 4 oldest bridges in China.

  • @uniupload hi, thanks your good advice. This time I will try to obtain the visa before leave Australia. I will go to Chaozhou city as well. I will visit as many towns or provinces as possible. I will do more research about grandparents place before I go there. I understand that a lots have changed since. Thanks again for ur good advice and suggested places i should visit.

  • @uniupload

be aware of fake copy's in shenzhen. if the boarders sees it's fake. all your cd's r gone...

  • Hi I'm Teocheow nang from Switzerland . I can speak teowchoew ui!!!

  • i am teochew nang from swatow!!!currently,i study in uk ,then i meet lots of teochews from south asia .however, most of them cant speak teochew any more,so sad~

  • I suggest funpersonful to do some reading about Teo Chew

  • I am a Teo Chew Nang, born and living in Hong Kong. I understand the dialect but cannot speak fluently. I visited my hometown last month. It was a heart warming trip.

  • 笑话:一片痴情是苦恋,十字路边囡仔关老囊

  • Just to give some historical perspective.

Teochews were originated from Fijian province however due to famine and overpopulation in some county some of them moved to Kwangtung province and became to be known as Teochews. That's the reason teochews speak almost similar as Minnam which are also known as Hokkien in Singapore and Malaysia.

  • @funpersonful

I think it went the other way, Hokkien came from Teochew... how about that?

  • O(∩_∩)O~wa lai zi deng swa

  • wa 许珍时小 diangdiang tia 这首gua

  • Hi All, I am a Teochew Nang from Singapore. I grew up speaking broken teochew peppered with Hokkien. But later in life I learnt to speak good Teochew. We should every strive to learn our dialect wherever possibe, right ? all teochews !

  • @Kohendry, I'm from Malaysia and I'm the same as the previous you. I speak broken Teochew with fusion of Hokkien. Lol.

  • @Kohendry Two thumbs up Kudos for all TCs!!

  • @Kohendry

teochew nang is language, not dialect.

  • @Kohendry You are so right..we should speak more Teochew if we are Teochew. I am Teochew from Thailand, but we speak very little Teochew here.... It is ashamed.

  • In Australia, there are a lot of Teochew people, most of our parents come from Vietnam or Cambodia. Unfortunately I do not understand Teochew at all, I only speak Cantonese.

  • Am from S'pore n my parents are from Swatow. My teochew ain't that great, no tks to the Speak Mandarin policy and d govt harsh censorship on dialects usage in the broadcast media. My children don't speak Teochew anymore, n in a couple of decades, d original cultural heritage of S'pore would be wiped out. Hey, its not like I am a Teochew chauvinist who don't understand the impt of English and Mandarin. FYI, I am from Raffles Institution, d top English school in S'pore (same as ex-PM LKY and GCT)

  • im teochew too and im so glad to see that there are many out there who speaks that language.

    小洁,你会看到我写的这些吗?想想我们在华工的第一年?

  • gaginang.. great to see others out there :)

continue to jiat de' n gu chai gue

  • Ooh, Teochew song! My mom's a native Cantonese speaker. However, I speak more Mandarin. I was comparing the Mandarin words to the Teochew words, and I kept on thinking, "That's how it's pronounced in Teochew???" It was really shocking to hear the contrast, hehe.

  • (Spoken Teochew or Tiosuon ue) (cont'd)

Like poetry, song lyrics consist of condensed words, simbolism and seng geu (cheng yu in PTH). These literary styles are quite different from Teochew tou ue. E.g. "suo meng hai si", literaly means "mountain treaty ocean swear/commitment" but it refers to the lovers's exchange of forever love and commitment for one anoher.

  • wow gd i also learning my teochew...

    gt more?

if u know mandarin pretty well, you shd be able to understand this...cheers!

  • why i cant understand a word????im teochew!!!

  • me too i can't understand a word but my dad said its cuz they go by the actual characters used, the way its written we just know how to speak it

  • I understood most of it. Maybe you´re cofusing teochew with something else.

  • (spoken Teochew or Tiojiu in peng'Im)

huexuyen, some oversea Teochew nang learned to speak TC from parents and grand parents and may (or may not) have opportunity to learn Mandarin.

In such case, the TC words are learned through parent's cultural prism, e.g. luang ai (or kou luang, title of this song, (or lian ai in PTH) was never taught to us cuz they simply don't want us to have girlfriend or boyfriend.

  • haha...upload more plz...i wanna improve my teochew! thanks...

  • ye.. teochew...:D and proud!

  • Best ever heard of Teochew song.

  • I love this song so much and when I learned how to speak TC I learned to sing song. It is wonderful to have the subtitles.
