Some religions have parents denying blood transfusions to their children. Some have parents removing a baby girl's clitoris. The U.N. sits on its ass and sympathizes with brutal dictators in an effort to not offend people. The job of the U.N. is to protect people from tyranny and promote a better world, it cannot do this if it panders to people who "are offended that they are criticized." The defamation of religion has and is still leading to racism and violence... This story has been framed as if only muslims could ever be blasphemed against which is a negation of history, jews protestants, catholics, bhuddists - every major religion gets some kind of blashemy. In some (not even that uncommon) this shit to violence and wars, racism and all the rest of the nazi bullshit. So I for one think this is in some way a positive thing. If that means giving up lame jokes and cartoons, fine, I distinguish these from serious debate and democratic criticism which should ALWAYS be preserved.

@Notyou010 I don't think people are just worried about jokes. There are some serious, real-life consequences to religious beliefs. Some religions have parents denying blood transfusions to their children. Some have parents removing a baby girl's clitoris. Should people in countries in the U.N. not be able to stand up and say "This is wrong..."? Religions themselves bring on another level of "us vs. them" mentality. Some people are against them totally, and should be allowed to say so.

Wouldn’t other people’s religious beliefs offend people’s religious beliefs? The Koran says Islam is the one true religion, the Bible says Christianity is the one true religion. The two conflict (with that and other beliefs), so for them to not offend each other, wouldn’t they not be allowed to say what their beliefs are? People wouldn’t be allowed to question religion so it would be illegal for atheists to publicly express their opinions.

This UN resolution may have had good intentions, but as we all well know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. It's one thing to openly discriminate against or intimidate someone because of their religion; but to merely criticize or make fun of the religion is another. If an anti-blasphemy law was ever passed in the USA, the first thing I would do is take a crucifix into a town square and take a shit on it. That would get my point across.

No religion, like no culture, is above criticism. Islam, just like Christianity, deserves hard pressing criticism from rational skeptics and questioning thinkers. If your religion has you believing the Earth is less than 10,000 years old, humans walked with dinosaurs, or that an ancient, uncited, non-historical text is unquestionable evidence of a god, you too personally deserve criticism.
