mlb 2008 was a great game, granted im sure not much has improved since then, but its not a terrible game. And for the ps2 to still launch titles and keep the system going i think thats awesome. At least sony hasnt given up on their systems like SEGA did. They kept dropping their systems and creating new ones and in the long run they gave up and left the consumers pissed. Go sony and great game for those that may not have the cash to buy a 300+ system now.

This is the first CGR Review where I thumbed down. This guy talks way too much about how the PS2's hardware is less superiour then then PS3, and he thinks the graphics are bad. I swear, the PS2 has nice graphics, and people have their eyes glued to their PS3's to see that. I can't even believe this is CGR. This game is really unimpressive graphically, I must say, even for PS2 standards. I think God of War II or Final Fantasy XII were much better looking, and they came out 3-5 years ago!

I'm actually still buying PS2 games (used of course) because they're extremely cheap and it has such a gigantic pool of games, plus the fact that I don't find enough reason to buy a PS3 or 360, and i'm content with my Final fantasy 10-playing PS2.... And my Wii. Just for the mario titles.

Well Derek, you can't just say that the PS2 is outdated just because a baseball game, personally I believe that sport games are the worst examples you can pick when trying to explain or compare a console's capabilities because they're just plainly lame, as you stated in the video, playing with a real ball is the best way to play it and even with kinect you won't be able to catch the same feeling. But PS2 is still a rocking horse. Btw the reason PS2 still has new games is called Wii, they port'em

I don't think Derek is dissing the PS2 here. He disses the sportsgames that are coming out on the PS2. When one compares this review to other reviews of games from the past that are older (and aren't sportgames) that came out on other consoles, it is simply a redundant comparison. Sportgames are about progression of their simulation of the real deal and this comparison is only made possible within the same genre of sportsgames. Therefore graphics and playability are the most important features.

@JDsan Also, personally I think I like my sportsgames to be more arcady than simulation and I guess Derek likes them the same. Quick and easy rules that make it competitive and easy to jump into. If you need to handle the game like a Microsoft Flight Simulator, it won't feel fun for some people and I think he's one of them. Therefore I think it is a great review because this game is, as Derek showed, not for me even though I own a PS2.

One of my friends still plays MVP Baseball '04 for the Ps2 and it is actually a lot of fun to play and watch. So not all older sports games are worthless. Anyways I have this game for my PS3 (the '08 version) and it really isn't that complicated. Sure batting is a little difficult but I was able to understand the main things about the game in about five minutes. It's just that I'm not really a big baseball fan so I don't really play it all that much. But I can recognize it is a great game.

Derek, while I agree with you on the convoluted gameplay aspects (a problem with many baseball sims in the last 20 years), I think you broke form when you started tearing the game down for its graphics and the hardware it runs on. PS2 games are still being made because there's a wide market out there for it. Many people still have their PS2's, and it's still a great console for single player gaming. You need to keep economics and market demographics in mind before you judge a system's viability.

He's saying how games still being released for the PS2 don't come with the graphic improvements of the next-gen consoles, which is really his only PS2-exclusive argument. everything else goes into the game as a whole, and the only real thing that he doesn't like about it for the PS2 aside from graphics is that it automatically feels "old" and outdated.

The PS2 still does its remaining job well----providing an alternative for parents who want to get their kiddies a system but don't feel like forking out $300-400 for one.

But the graphics weren't even the best in 2000. The Dreamcast, for the most part, looked superior in every ported game.
