  • Can't hold back tears..at so many points during this movie..especially the tragic end :(

  • This film was depressing to watch from the start. I confess, I was dreading seeing the end, and I was a bit relieved that they didn't do it though it didn't exactly finish the story. Recently, I've learned that when our bodies do not have anymore carbrohydrates or fats to burn, it starts eating its own muscle mass. It's hard to think about, very hard, and dreadful to even mention, but it's a message to anyone who has anorexia to get help. I truly hope that Karen's life was happier than that.

  • I will never be able to watch this film and NOT cry no matter how many flaws there are in the story line. Karen Carpenter has been my idol practically since the day I was born. Her talent will never be matched and certainly not surpassed. She truly is a Star in Heaven <3

  • This was definitely a "Hollywood" ending. This is a movie, and a lot of this movie was dramatized for a variety of reasons. What is most sad to me, is this final scene (as were many scenes) was filmed in The Carpenters home in Downey, CA. Karen actually walked up those exact stairs on the last night night of her life. The house also looked exactly like it did when this was filmed as the morning she died. It was such a loss, when she died. She had so much talent and a lot more left to give.

  • I think about how tough her life was and how her family loved her, and I cried....

  • Thank you Mom for telling me you loved me a million times and all the hugs and kisses you gave.

  • Her reaction to that ' I love you ' is so magic, makes me cry every time. We all love you Karen, forever and ever!

  • she was such a beautiful person and had the voice of an angel...now she is singing in heaven. We miss you - your voice "perfection"

  • Thank you so very much for sharing this movie. I hadn't seen it in yrs. This woman is loved dearly n greatly missed.

  • Why didnt they show a re-enactment of how she died! What a bad ending:/

  • Also , thanks you Edzmyhomie for this presentation. I always cry when i see the last part.

  • This movie always leaves a sad heart for me. if she had gotten that kind of acceptance years before, she probably would still be here today. The young people of today are something like karen but in a different way. Most of todays parents don't give "acceptantance" to their kids and they end out on the streets trying to find acceptance. Lack of acceptance only brings a broken heart and a broken life. i miss Karen and her music but thank God for records, CDs and the internet.

  • this made me cry

  • They didn't show her abusing ipecac syrup... That was the final blow of her self destructive behaviour.... A lot of people blame it on the ipecac... I would blame it on the pressure from the whole world she had to carry plus the pressure of her family- and private (love) life.... That much weight on your shoulders just wants you to feel a little lighter... Any gram less makes such a difference if life is dragging you down that much... Very sad....

  • @JenWithThePen There is a lot of things not shown in this movie. The script for this movie was rewritten a number of times, as Richard Carpenter was a producer on this film. From what I've read Richard has denied the ipecac abuse as he feels Karen wouldn't have done that as it could have affected her voice. It's obvious if she was abusing it, and her autopsy says she was, she wasn't thinking clearly at all.

  • So sad and so tragic. What a shame. Thanks for uploading this. I'll always love The Carpenters.

  • Can someone upload the Gilda Radner story

  • "And Karen, I love you." Yep, cried like a baby..

  • keeping the actress face in darkness with the somber music...kind of hides the fact that it's an actress, so you can believ it is "her"...very nice directing

  • if only her mother had actually said "I love you Karen...before it was too late."

  • Karen Ann Carpenter was and still IS the BEST !!!!

  • This last scene is so dam sad.

  • i love her so much , too this day i still cry whenever i hear superstar

  • Its crazy how so many of us love her so much .. and she couldnt get half of what we all feel for her from her own family. Man.

  • From an anorexic's perspective--I do not believe there was a "happily ever after" ending to "The Karen Carpenter Story."

Agnes Carpenter spent 32 yrs. blaming her daughter for FAMILY issues (involving 4 people) right up until she threw up her final meal--then took her last breath.

Karen also failed at marriage--anorexics DO NOT FAIL--that was the final nail in her coffin.

As Burris placed his wedding ring in her coffin, I'll bet the effects of being the final nail pounded in overtook his ego.

  • @mredominik I agree with you on this. I think the Family Dynamic was the foundation for Karen's problems. The lack of control in her life, etc. A number of things lead her toward her untimely fate. However, and this is just my opinion, the rejection of her solo record from both Richard and A&M records was the beginning of the end. That pushed her into that relationship with Burris which was doomed from the start as his intentions were never right. When that failed, it was over for her.

  • The actress playing Karen Carpenter looks an awful lot like my friend Shell.

  • I love you karen

  • (and Karen...............I LOVE YOU), how powerful was that - Very touching

  • @xxxyorks Sadly, that part was fictional. :-(

  • Carpenters forever!

  • love u karen

  • I've never taken a class in film study/ symbolism and the psychiatric perception of a film, but I'm always looking for such symbolisms in films. As far as this part of the film is concerned, as Karen walks upstairs with the light on in the hallway and the specific lyrics of this chosen song when she reaches the top ("And when my life is over/remember when we were together...) from my perception, it's as if since this is the end of the film, it's also the end of her life as she enters heavan

  • Karen was a fantastic talent who was loved by millions and will never be forgotten.

  • R.I.P Karen.

for ever in the thoughts and prayers of everyone.

  • just great.Very tearfull.R.I.P karen.

  • When Karen was in therapy, in NY, Dr Levonkron, stated to Karen's parents she needed to be told she was loved and held. SO Agnes went over to Karen and hugged her, as they were not a touchy feely family...and everyone had to turn away as the electricity in the room was sooo strong...and it was what Karen needed at that moment...to know she was loved!! I know that her mother loved her so much but probably had a very hard time showing it....when Karen died at the hospital...Agnes broke down!

  • no Cherry Boone O'neil revealed that KC confided to her that she was using Ipecac. RC refuses to believe what's in an official autopsy report! Emetine&Ipecac are the same thing!! The reason he doesn't want to belive is because until AGnes died he was in agreement with her in that KC didn't have a psychological condition. They both believed that it was all just an out of control diet. Had he realized that she did have a condition it would be easier to see how one could pick being thin to singing.

  • I can't stop to see this video. i'm crying like a baby. Karen, your life is still now, in my heart. I LOVE YOU. Momo (Italy)

  • I still have this movie in VHS and makes me cry everytime

  • I loved the movie but I was actually disappointed by the ending. It didn't seem like a real end. They should have followed up until her death instead of just saying how she died. The rest of the movie was great though!

  • Perceive therefore the kindness and severity of Elohim.

  • 12/13/2010

We love you still Karen. I still love your music and you. You would have been 60 years young this year. I would pay to go to your concert today even so. We miss you.

EDzMyHomie, thank you for posting these videos. Tears flowed throughout re-watching this.

  • this makes me cry.. the "I love you" part.. indicates that she didnt make it the next day... thats sad and this was before my time... :,,( love Karen Carpenter!

  • her mother never ever said she loved her...Hollywood ending

  • I have been trying to find this movie for years, Thanks so much. I love the music the Carpenters made. Singing for her was a God given talent, she never struggled , she made it look easy. We've only just begun was one of my first studio recordings at the age of 16. I am now 42 and still love singing her songs. I wish I could meet Richard and work with him. It's ok to still dream. God Bless

  • Karen might have put weight back on, but she was still using ipecac at the time of her death. She hadn't conquered her illness yet. The ipecac wound up being the thing that pushed her heart too far--her autopsy report says that she died of ipecac toxicity. Her heart was weakened, but the chemical caused the cardiac arrest.

  • @RLviddy I don't think she used ipecac because the constant vomiting would have ruined her voice. She prefered to use laxitives.

  • @Juberoos "her autopsy report says that she died of ipecac toxicity." It's in the report and on her death certificate.

  • @RLviddy that doesn't make it true

  • @Juberoos oh, right. death certificates are usually just fabrications.

  • @RLviddy You are forgetting that back then, not much was known about Anorexia. So at the time, "ipecac toxicity" was a reasonable assumption. However, by todays standards of medicine, we know that is not true.

  • @Juberoos Do you know what you're talking about?

  • @RLviddy LOL I would hope I do...I am a nurse.

  • Comment removed

  • @Juberoos Why is ipecac toxicity not an explanation? Can you be more specific and expand on what you've already written?

  • @RLviddy By todays standards we know that ipecac causes "adverse side effects" when overused. It in itself is not a cause of death, but it can cause other bodily dysfunctions that can cause death. Myopathy and Cardiopathy are most likely what Karen died of. Advanced by use of Ipecac but moreso her eating disorder itself caused her body harm. Ipecac was a mere piece of the whole puzzle and by todays knowledge would not be named "sole cause of death" during an autopsy.

  • @Juberoos Bulemics and Anorexics die of these things regularly even without the use of substances like ipecac or laxatives. The lack of nutrition causes the body to shut down. Leading to death.

  • @Juberoos Actually according to her family and Richard Karen never used ipecac. They said they never saw any evidence of such a thing. She was using laxatives and taking synthroid (synthetic thyroid hormone medication that speeds up your metabolism). Taking synthroid when she didn't have hypothyroidism probably only hastened her death. If you take too much of it your heart will skyrocket out of control. But everyone she knew was adamant that ipecac wasn't involved. I think it was though.

  • Once you are annorexic, especially with as severe as hers was, the damage is already done. It's almost impossible to ever fully recover. In Karen's case, it was too late for her. Really sad :(

  • The saddest thing about this story is that, in the end, Karen Carpenter finally did beat anorexea...she was cured and on the road to recovery...it was only that the doctors made her put the weight back on too quickly. Her poor frail little heart muscle was not strong enough to accomodate such a huge sudden weight gain. She should have never died..she should be with us now. The world lost one of its best when the angel from heaven we knew as Karen Carpenter left us.

  • It is comforting to know that she was fighting anorexia back slowly towards the end of her life!

  • This song is one of my all time favorite Carpenters songs. This reprise at the end of this movie especially during the final scene and then reading what happened to her always gets to me. RIP Karen! Even though I was not quite 5 when you died, I will always love your music...

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! I really enjoyed it. I love The Carpenters!

  • WOW, There is so much more to this disease that they will never capture in a movie. Recovering from a eating disorder is like a alcoholic having a casual drink..It is a amzing lonely place that you will never understand unless you live it. Karen Carpenter RIP you will always be loved for your amazing songs that had different meanings when your painful world came to be.

  • That is so sad her mother saying I Love You the night before Karen died :(

  • @kat5ft2... her mum didnt say i love you for the first time 3 days before she died. it was around the thanksgiving time which in the us is in november and she died in early feburary

  • She stopped but the desiese went on. That retard guy who called her chubby! RETARD! RETARD RETARD RETARDDDDDD! I MUST KILL HIM!

  • @nikkimoll

What guy said that? She read the word from an article that stated their song "Close To You" was at the top of the charts. Calm down.

  • did she relapse with her eating disorder or did she pass away after she made her recovery? so sad

  • @shakelikemilkk right after recovery.

  • Karen was on the road to recovery. She had finally begun to put on weight and the therapy as working. However, on her last night on earth she was too tired to drive home so she stayed at her parents condo. The next morning her mother called her to come downstairs for breakfast and when she did not respond, her body was discovered. She died of heart failure. All the years of starving herself and using laxatives took their toll on her little body. God Bless her

  • my mom said I love you 3 days before she died first time she knew how to say I LOVE YOU!!! ... ;-)

  • wait, so did she die that night?

  • @TheJMSmovies Yes they found her on the bathroom floor as far as i know ..Karen is still one of the best female singers of all time her voice will always go on

  • @missangie29 yes i know that. But this scene in the movie when the mother said goodnight, she died that night?

  • @TheJMSmovies Yes that night she passed

  • @missangie29 I dont think she did, because in the begining of the movie, they bring her in the emergency room, and that was when she died, and her mom was wearing a white robe. In this part, its blue

  • @TheJMSmovies They have to try everything to get her back i would have thought i have the book which stated the fact they tried everything to get her back but they knew she wasn't going to her heart had failed there in the bathroom

  • @missangie29 actually, she did sorry, she was wearing a blue robe in the begining, it was the wrong lighting.

  • After reading " Little Girl Blue: The Life Of Karen Carpenter.." this movie is a total sham... It does not tell Karen 's story at all.. It was watered down to next to NOTHING.. Karen's Mother, Brother and husband all played a direct role on Karen's state of mind and her developing anorexia. This movie glosses over ever hardship that Karen suffered both emotionally and physically. Cynthia Gibb stated that in the opening of Little Girl Blue...

  • I'm reading the biography of Karen called "Little Girl Blue" by Randy Schmidt and the making of this film is mentioned. If Agnes Carpenter did ever tell her daughter that she loved her, it wasn't as Karen walked up the stairs to bed the night before she died. The makers of the film made that bit up as it made for a better ending to the film !!!!!

  • The part where Karen's Mom told her she love her was touching yet sad and maybe a little too late?

  • @studentrebel

    It never happened.

  • No matter how many times I see this film, I always sort of hope that the end will be different, even though I know it won't :-( The film though does not really do justice to Karen's life though and isn't 100% accurate. For a start the "Made In America" album poster is used several years before that album was even made ! I think that there should be another film produced, a real big screen epic !

  • Thank you very much!

  • That is so sad! She died at 32! I thought she died in her 40's or 50's, of course I didn't know much about her until now.

What a sad ending, poor Karen, she seemed like such a sweet person with a big heart.

  • sweet but sad ending.

  • the part when the mother says she love her,i cried

  • This is just so sad. I miss her so much. This movie made me cry especially the last part. I really wish she didn't have to go. :(

  • This story is sad. I wish there was some way to convince anorexic people that they aren't fat. But, it doesn't work that way. Rest in Peace Karen Carpenter, and know that your story is helping people, I saw this at school so some girls might have been helped.

  • A story of a music legend that will forever be in our hearts. 27 years later I still cry.

  • @GameMaster671 She died the year I was born.

  • @GameMaster671 Me to expecially hearing her voice & songs around Christmas time RIP KAREN you are missed.

  • 27 years this week

    I love you Karen

  • my heart just aches for her =[

  • when i had my headstone done i put a song for you with musical notes on it ... i will always have Karen with me !

  • y have u had ur headstne done?

  • EZ thanks for uploading and sharing this movie, its a brilliant movie a real tear jerker.

    Thanks again :)

  • thru her pain and doubt and loss, her songs about a dream love she never knew, help us remember the one we do.

    Her delusion/depression/pain = "our song"

    isn't it ironic

and now for some sick humor.....

i wonder if she should not have had that second helping.

  • I didnt even know this was her her. ya know?

I was just browsing through some movies about

    anorexia and this came up.

I had no idea she sung half the songs I knew! Haha,

deff putting out meh ipod. haha.

The ending was super sad. :(

  • nix1007 very good point. Madonna ,Barbara, and Cher are very tough whether people like them or not. It really is the sensitive or self-conscious people who find the comfort in opiates, sedatives, coke, alcohol, etc. The people who last either don't mess with that stuff or they can binge for one evening - and put it down for months at a time.

  • Saf life,poor thing.

  • wow this final scene is very heart breaking its really sad she had to go through something like that .....karen carpenter was such a talented singer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how sad?,

    really sad..

    ..it breaks me..

    .,miss yah karen..

.,i hope your now at peace!!!

    ..karen,i love you!!!

  • Due I Just Cried

  • the songs name is "A song for you"

  • That's the end. So sad.

  • I agree with the statement that Karen's main problem was an extremely low self-esteem and over sensitivity. And people like that usually don't survive in show business, since it's very similar to jungle. You have to be literally made from iron to survive there. And yes, Madonna, Barbra and Cher are the best examples for that.

  • what is the name of the song at 0:55 ??

    i really want to know..

  • song fo you thats what the song is and at the end with the names of the people is karens theme

  • tnxs a lot =]

I've been wanting to know the name of that song for a long time :]

    YOU ROCK!!!

  • A Song For You

  • For You-the carpenters.

    i think

  • Also if a child has no friends or very few friends the more chance of emotional and other types of bullying.Anyway enough said for now.

  • Karen was only 32 when she died on 2\4\83.. this movie was based on the carpenters.. the video was ok...

  • Comment removed

  • I felt terrible when I though how had her brother felt when hir sister died... he loved her so much! :(

  • It's the young souls this beautiful and delicate that don't remain on this earth for too long.

I remembered in 3rd when the tragic news was made public. The most miraculous thing about their recording is that I still have one their original recorded albums on cassette until this very day, and it still sounds just as great as it did when my mom purchased it in the 70s.

  • Karen Carpenter, a star on earth, a star in heaven...

    love you- kenneth chua

  • Thanks for the response. However I do think that if you can't use one event that happened in the heartwrenching story then why would they show that a tabloid was the main cause of the disorder. But as I stated in the past, I do think the problem became more intense due to the tabloids, which is unfortuneate! And Part 10 of the movie was not where they showed the start oif the problem. It showed it when a friend of Karens as well as the managers came by to say that they were #7

  • a lovely and sadly end

KAREN CARPENTER YOURE ALWAYS ON MY MIND

    RIP

  • Thanks again for posting this movie. I've been searching for it for years, and it was well worth the wait.

  • today on feb 4 makes twenty six years since she went to Heaven to be with JESUS. Just seeing this, especially the ending, and the last song she sang, brings tears to my eyes. An Angel for sure.

  • The angels to karen in my senior year in high school. The Day after one of my favorite teachers died. Karen and Mr Schneider will always be remembered.

  • Theres my answer,February 4th

  • she died the same year i was born 6 months earlier

  • thank you so much for posting this movie.I really enjoyed it.

  • I love this movie!

  • she died the year after my brother was born, and 2 years before i was born i was still an egg

  • A comment was made in a newspaper article when they just started that said Richard and his chubby little sister were great. All these young stars are pressured to lose weight, that is why Debra Winger left hollywood. Try finding the biography cd called looking for Debra Winger. She told hollywood to shove it because of the pressure to lose weight and that was when she was at her peak a show business.

  • Did you believe what you watched. Reality check - her parents always saw her brother before her - her brother made sure she was made to believe without him she was nothing - even in this movie if anyone said anything good about Karen - Richard had to be praised - watch it again if you don't believe me - a comment in a newspaper about being chubby didn't kill her. This is a glorification video for Richard and his family to absolve themselves from the reality. Don't believe me - watch it again.

  • It was only in the last few years of her life that she tried to stand up for herself,as a child she wasn,t praised as much as her brother was-plus the two of them were overprotected and controlled but Karen was especially more controlled and overprotected as a child. This is a sanitised version of what more likely really happened

  • @Janvierireland

I'm not contradicting you or saying that you're wrong, but are you sure about all that? Did any of her friends or her counselor or Richard ever verify any of that?

  • Hi I just wanted to tell you that I totally agree with what you said as I struggle with Anorexia Nervosa myself, was abused pyshically, mentally, emotionally and verbally as a child. In recovery, battling this disease. Thanks again.

  • Thank you to whoever you are who answered my comment. I still do think however that when movies portray famous celebrities or even other people with illnesses such as Karen Carpenters, they need to be more realistic on how situations happened rather than create it how they want to show it to the general public, so people like me who commented the way I did, won't jump to conclusions, I still think though something could have been done on Miss Carpenters behalf. Hope more people log on & watch

  • I watched this video in health class my freshmen year..I've watched this movie soo many times..It's soo sad..I want to go to her grave sometime..

  • That was a good movie!! and sad too, the actors did a great job on this movie. Thanks for uploading! One of my favorites!

  • Which song do you mean? The one Karen sings is "A Song for You". The instrumental song that comes next is "Karen's Theme", written by Richard Carpenter in memory of his sister.

  • Thank you very much for posting this.

  • I am still curious on how much blame the Carpenter family puts on the music tabloids back then. I would like to hear what they have to say!

  • I think that this video is good for the ones who are then . They need to see what happens if you don't eat . I have a eating disorder and it helps to see things like that because it is hard to deal with something like this . People think that if she / he just eats it will be ok well they are wrong . People like Caren have issues just like us and people need to understand this fact . It isn't easy to just say ok I am going to eat . There is alot more to it then food it self .

  • I watched this movie in health class it was a pretty interesting movie I first heard of the carpenters because sonic youth does a cover of superstar I really like both sonic youth and the carpenters

  • I have something to say on this matter that no one seems to remember about how Karen's situation got started in the first place. If you will remember in the movie it clearly showed that is if you were paying attention, that because of the tabloid in the music top 100 when the song "Close to You" was #7 on the billboard charts the tabloids comment was Richard and his chubby sister what happened to the name Karen? And why didn't the family sue the tabloids, I think she'd still be alive today!

  • Hey dramaqueen1972,

First off, you would be well not to accept everything that movies portray. So many movies that claim to be true story have "dramatic elements" added.

Second, if the tabloids did report that she was chubby, there is no way to prove that that in fact is what led to her annorexia, so there is no way the family could sue the tabloids with a shot at winning. Karen Carpenter had issues and it's just too easy to look at one little detail and say that's what led to her death.

  • Honestly, I don't think one single event can be the CAUSE of an eating disorder. It could trigger it, but there has to be more to it. Most of the time how it works out is a person has a genetic or some kind of predisposition to an ED (say, past abuse), and then some event just triggers it full-blown.

  • Well, in some cases, they were told they were fat. That can be a trigger. According to the book about Karen, when her and Richard had their first big hit, around 1969, is what triggered her constant dieting and her ED. Someone, from Billboard magazine, said, "Richard Carpenter and his chubby sister, Karen...." That started the roller coaster for Karen.

  • Exactly, that just proves my point. What the magazine said triggered it, but obviously there was something there BEFORE that predisposed her to it (I'd say it was low self-esteem).

  • I see what you mean. Yeah, her mother was controlling over her, since she was a little girl. She even controlled Karen's money too!! Karen just had nothing she could control for herself, so she thought that the constant dieting and her eventual ED made her feel more control and nobody else could control that on her.

  • Not anyone, who has issues with parents become anorexic. Let's face the truth - unfortunately, Karen didn't have enough strong character. She wasn't fighter. Definitely, she had extraordinary talent, yet if you become a part of the show business industry you have to be more than just talented. You must be strong-willed and self-confident in order to survive. Otherwise it breaks you down. For instance, Madonna, Streisand or Cher proved to be tougher, that's why the're still around..

  • Who could realistically stand up to their parents without being made to look in the wrong all of the time?I hope that you know what I mean.

  • If you have seen photos of Karen as a child, around 9 or 10 she was chubby so that is another reason on the list as to why she became anorexic as well as hermother being overprotective and the magazine calling her chubby.Maybe she was teased as a kid.

  • So what? Most of us were teased as children and called even more offensive names than just "chubby'! Tell me, who wasn't? It's a part of life, and being criticized in magazines it's a part of showbiz and there is nothing you can do about it! Strong people do survive, others - become anorexic, drug addicted, etc...

  • I was trying to say that the comment from the magazine calling her chubby wasn,t the only thing because if it were she would not have been sensitive to it and also I was hinting that there is a whole long list of reasons why she became mentally ill,not just the 1,2,or 3 things that we know or can guess.

Also I don,t think most kids are severely teased/bullied to the point of developing mental illnesses.Another probability is that her mother was over anxious and as a result overprotective.

  • Thank you for posting these videos. It's been many years since I saw this on TV.

  • The sad thing is that when she died was right after treatment later on in her life. She gained weight too fast in treatment, about 10 pounds in a week and her body couldn't handle it, so her heart gave out... when I was anorexic, they wouldn't let me eat more than 1000 calories a day, because it could be dangerous... but there was not enough knowledge of the disorder in Karen's time.

  • Wow...that is haunting at:38 when the song kicks in there, gives me chills.

  • perfect song of hers to put at the end of the movie

  • whenever I watch this video's part 1, I couldn't help myself from continuesly watching it upto part 10..and when I've already reached it,..nothings new, it leaves my face wet with tears...

    Miss you karen, so much..

  • Karen, I remember being a little kid and hearing all your music on the radio, I always loved it, I remember being 14 when you died, and how much I knew that you would be missed. May God bless you!

  • a really good movie...

    but it was indeed sad!!

why is it that people often realize their mistakes when it was too late..

If only her parents most especially her mother gave her the chance to run her own life,..maybe she's still here today, if only people knew that those words from them could eventually change someones life and probably make it worst, if only they just knew that sometimes telling someone that you love him/her matters a lot...Maybe Karen Carpenter was still here...

  • Amen to that.

  • thanks,..

i just feel so sad whenever I watch this story,..

i remember the time that I can't sleep because my mind was filled with her thoughts...Feels like I'm suffering all the pain she'd suffered!!!
