  • I'm watching this video knowing the torture that this kid has to experience and hearing all his "friends" laughing at him. He even asks to be put on the couch and what happens? They sit and laugh while he falls face-first into the floor.

    IT. ISN'T. FUNNY.

  • Do these kids just not go to school or know any common sense?

They could have at least gotten him to a bed or a couch.

His parents would have been raging if they saw this.

  • i also don't like laughing because this happens, and if it was as bad as that i'd try not to laugh at all. you guys are just so nasty

  • that isn't even funny, i haven't been diagnosed or that but when i laugh too much or stuff like that i do this. it's not as bad. i don't fall off the chair but i can't stand because i know i'm going to fall. it's quite scary too. so you guys are just jerks.

  • I have this and it is sooooo embarrasing for my friends to watch me pass out let alone video it!!

  • Y'all are so rude! People with Cataplexy hate it. It is not a joke! So grow up... (from a 12 year old)

  • @GameHacker12000

Agree with you bud I suffer from it i hate it peace out

  • Ha its fucking hilarious because hes retarded

  • @lethplaythomelawl

your an idiot dude I suffer from this too pay some respect

  • I have narcolepsy myself. I am not cataleptic, but I do understand the falling sleep in terrible moments. It is funny at times in situations like this. Laughter helps make it all easier to deal with.

  • I have a friend with Narcolepsy Zach and she takes Methamphet AM 10mg in the morning and 10mg at noon and it is totally controlled. She is even allowed to drive it is so controlled. You may want to ask your physician. You were a good sport guy :o)

  • @nkosmach

Many Narcoleptics are on daytime stimulants, however stimulants do not control cataplexy. There are some antidepressants that help cataplexy, but the gold standard for treating narcolepsy with cataplexy is a medication called Xyrem. For reasons that we do not know, the effects on cataplexy lasts long after the drug is eliminated from the body. Anyone in the Houston area may feel free to contact my office/ sleep lab for a consultation or evaluation.

  • What the hell. Poor Zach.

  • i have cataplexy.... and it is kinda funny!

  • @ginicebark really I hate it

  • @littlerx1 right.... i totally understand why. part of the reason i can laugh at it is because chlomipramine completely controls mine. it really is a restricting and, at times, debilitating aspect of narcolepsy. i didn't mean to be flippant.......

  • @ginicebark yeah thats fair enough are you on any medication for it ? im on dexamphetamine for my narcolespy and penicillin for my cataplexy, find that these really have helped me I have my driver license :)

  • @littlerx1 penicillin for the cataplexy? weird, never heard of that. i don't really take anything for the sleep attacks other than massive amounts of coffee. i'm kind of lucky because i can still function (albeit with difficulty) with just coffee as long as i drink it all day and don't run out. i don't like the provigil. it makes me feel jittery and still tired. i take anafranel/chlomipramine for the cataplexy. it completely controls it. you should ask your doc about it...

  • I would say they shouldnt have been laughing except for the fact that Zach is laughing along with them and making jokes about it himself, so he is obviously comfortable about it.

  • This is not funny at all.. It's humiliating.. These kids should be ashamed of themselves.. Instead of helping him, they continue to provoke his condition.. I'm so glad I don't have friends like that..

  • Asshole friends?

  • it is not fair that they are making jokes of it

    poor guy

    some people have this problems

    may god help them

  • My friend has cataplexy. And it isn't funny.

  • @JRae32599 To each his own i guess. Zach seems to be cool with it

  • @JRae32599 So I suppose he ought to lock himself in a closet and not have friends/fun/laughter/a sense of humour right? Don't be so serious. People with cataplexy are people and like having friends, fun and laughter. My sister has cataplexy and an excellent sense of humour, Just because she has cataplexy doesnt stop her from having fun with her friends. What you're seeing in this video is a kid with cataplexy HAVING FUN. HE is laughing too.

  • that is so mean

  • I am going to assume Zach was ok with this video being posted. Regardless, it has people talking about it which is important. I have narcolepsy with severe cataplexy (triggered by any extreme emotion) and I personally am terribly ashamed of it. It's NOT a pleasant experience. On top of being humiliating, the potential for injury is great. You have to pick and choose your company wisely. Kudos to those who are comfortable with it! I envy them. But to those who don't experience it, know this - ju

  • LMAO... I myself suffer with both N and C, I dnt have C as badly as poor Zach but this video dose not lie , Its a messed up thing to have.... But I think hes a good sport and his friends were awesome lol Have to say I almost died laughing...

  • If this guy were to ever smoke weed, he'd be in a coma!

  • im really lmao

  • hypnotists must love him

  • lmao at laladirtyblonde...i mean i agree that is serious, could it get that far

  • You guys are idiots to make fun of your friend.

  • This is freaking hillarious! I could not quit laughing while watching!! I am 40yrs old and have C. with N. It is hard for people to understand if they dont know! I am sharing this with my kids. They will love it!! They used to record me and show there friends at school. You guys are great!!

  • Aww the poor thing.Glad his friends are supportive and helpful! :)

  • serious question! what happens when cataplexic people have an orgasm?

  • Kind of hard to keep laughing after the kid goes down the second or third time. Makes me feel closer to crying.

  • I'm too , it's horrible ... but funny for others...

  • Friends laughing when it happens can help to make it easier, cos its fun for them and not a barrier int eh relationship or a bad thing. They get enjoyment, it helps me.

  • I think the friends ARE douche bags. His condition is that laughter makes him fall asleep. So they keep laughing every time he wakes up. I'm sure it's not a fun experience for Zach.

  • I wouldn't go over there anymore

  • He's soooo cuute!! <3

  • I also suffer from narcolepsy w/cataplexy, it's just as bad as this kid. And also thumbs up to him and his friends. I am embarrassed by my symptoms often. And have very few friends. The only sad part is that its the laughing that is making it all happen. The type of laughing I try to stay away from.

that limp neck crap hurts too.

  • As someone who suffers narcolepsy with cataplexy, I just wanna say thumbs up to Zach's friends for sticking by his side and not getting freaked out by what he's going through. And thumbs up to Zach for taking it lightly:)

  • poor kid it makes me feel way sad

  • force boy!

  • its no funny!!! you are bad friends

  • Good to know Im not alone !

  • I have this too ! AHAHAHAHAH

  • with friends like this, who needs enemies??????????

  • I have it too, ya those guys are diks but phukit at least he's laughing too which is rare 4 us!

  • What troubles me of later generations is their great love for irresponsibility

  • hes wearing a smosh shert

  • IS it for real? how is Zach coping now???

  • I bet he lost poker that night...

  • 4:50 *on his knees, grabs his head*

    "Oh look, he's schizophrenic!"

    *plop*

  • need a Red Bull?

  • I don't see what's funny about a person dozing off in short intervals. Once or twice, yeah, it's a ball. But to see it over and over again and they kept laughing at him? Something's not right about the whole situation...

  • If the friends were being dicks, the poor kid wouldnt be laughing with them..... its odviously a funny moment for both parties.

  • No matter what anyone says....this is being taken a bit too lightly for me to consider these people friends. At least....I would be suspicious of "friends" like this....to say the least.

  • I take it this kid doesn't have a driver's license. How does he ride a bike even? See something funny.. *SLAM FALL OFF BIKE*

  • great friends! let the kid pass out and laugh? stupid

  • LOL! i passed out

  • poor guy how dose he get through a whole movie without passing out

  • nice friends

  • If I was the kid with the disease. I'd Calm the fuck down, get control, get up and go to the kitchen. Then I'd find the biggest frying pan I saw. Run out to where the douchebag triggering the illness was, and swing the Pan upside his head so he could see how getting knocked out felt. I wish I was that kid cause I would of done some fucking damage. I would be throwing knives and pots. They'd Suffer that night , for real.

  • @justinbrittontv assuming you werent tripping over your own ass with cataplexic fits in anger. what's to say that once your "in control" your gonna even want to do some damage? it'd be a bit redundant to lash out at people AFTER you've moved past the emotional phase of the incident, and you'd also be putting yourself at risk of another fit by pushing for a violent situation. Chances are these people arent clear cut assholes, look at the context and it's clear to see theyre all friends.

  • you have to be careful u dont hit your head they was looking out for him bless him

  • i have narcolepsy and catalepsy and its not funny, coz his mates dont give shit when he fols. I am allways scear to hit flour and hurt myself, my mates hold me before I hit flour, and this i will see as bulling.

    miax

  • god that looks like a nightmare, feel sorry for anyone who has this.

  • just wondering if all of your parents got to see this- hopefully they find it funny too--maybe show it to Zacks Dr ....

  • fuck you bastards!! what kind of people are you?!

  • i swear to god i feel like smacking everybody that is laughing at him, yes i understand he is doing it from strong emotion but how do you guys know he is not incredibly embarrassed or upset that he is like that. What kind of friends are you. Even if he is doing it from laughter he is probably only laughing from peer pressure so he isn't made fun of for getting upset about it. All i know is that you guys should of had half a brain to realize this before you sent your buddy into a paralyzing coma

  • This disease also causes rapid loss of muscle tone, too. I know someone that has this disease. It's not fun..

  • that looks awesome!!! i wish my body culd be like jello when i laugh or cry!!!

  • @nixxi97 WTF, you don't now what you talking about. I have Cataplexy and Narcolepsy, and ok, things like this or funny, but I know times like these, and I get high sometimes it does not matter anymore, and believe me, it's not so funny at these moments! I have a scary live since i have Cataplexy.

  • @BekersDries um great to know

  • @CrusaderDom3- thank you for posting your "techniques". Was about to do the same. Have narcolepsy/cataplexy/hypngogic/etc., fully loaded, the deluxe package. I'm 41 now but it kicked in when I was 14ish, so that's- what- 17 years? And let me offer some hope to those suffering symptoms of any or all of the above... It CAN get better, even without drugs. YES... in time, it's true, you can learn to contract certain muscles- think kegel excercises (perineum) or just look into Taoist sex practices...

  • I also have cataplexy along w/narcolepsy,auto behavior, sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations.Prozac controls my cataplexy by dulling emotions. It also keeps the hallucinations(night terrors) away. For myself those are the worst part about this otherwise I would'nt be taking the meds. I would rather feel emotions full force and end up on the floor. My friends did the same thing to me before I went on meds. So as a victim of laughter abuse I can justly say, It's funny shit!!!!!!

  • it's funny bc he enjoys it, but i feel like it'd get annoying after a while -.-

  • Trust me if he really wanted them to stop he could control it better. And I hae never done it while driving I hae been driving for 10 years now, I also havve never done it at school, or anywhere else that i was not having a good time. it is a ery complicated condition that most people would never understand (unless they had it). It's not hurting him one bit though. So don't hate on them, educate yourself!!

  • It's totally funny. I have narcolepsy, and it sucks, but I take solace in the fact that it's hilarious.

  • It was funny at first but when he said stop you fucktards should've let up. Stupid ignorant ass people, I would punch each of you in the forehead.

  • Okay wtf happens when he learns to drive/ driving???

  • @laurenblahblah8 you're not allowed to drive if you have cataplexy or narcolepsy

  • I am a 26 yr. old female. I have had cataplexy since birth, and my 4 yr. old son also has it since birth (without narcolepsy). I suffer from it just as much as he does. I think it is HILARIOUS!!!! I have been there and done that before. But I also under stand where people would think that was mean. I would have been sitting there laughin my butt off fallin over with him. That would have been evev more funny...lol. Great video guys. Wish I had one to post.

  • I wonder who his favorite comic is...

  • Cataplexic copping machanisms from a cataplexic (myself). this is what I do when attacks happen:

    When cataplexic attacks occurs I:

Think of something unpleasant, annoying or something you find hateful.

As wierd as this sounds, try contarcting your musels ! (the same type of contraction as when your taking a dump)

Try forcing air out from your throat like a normal ha ha laugh

    Hyperventelate

Press your tongue to the roofof your mouth

    Try them in that order.

  • wtf i am 15 year old girl and i am so fit and you guy well not end up in a good place in the future

  • For those who think the friends are douchebags, Take a second look. Each time he goes down, they are friends by making sure he doesn't hurt himself by just letting him flop over and bust his head on whatever it was next to him. Friends can laugh at each other, and are still helpful. You people need to pull the wooden spoon out your asses and grow up.

  • @GeoTexans You are full of bullshit! He specifically asks to be moved to the couch and their fun and enjoyment over his condition prevent them from fullfilling his request. As the saying goes, With friends like this who needs enemies.

  • @GeoTexans still... they could've done more to help the only one that seemed to bother was the one on the right

  • @GeoTexans Yeah, they could still have just put him on the couch. And they keep provoking it by laughing or scaring him. ffs man.

  • @GeoTexans Yeah, they could still have just put him on the couch. And they keep provoking it by laughing or scaring him. ffs man.

I don't see anyone helping him up.

  • @GeoTexans His friends definitely are not souce bags! I have this too, and once you're in the fit, it's just non stop no matter what someone is doing hahaha

  • Watch it again....I think you missed the part where he bust hes head into the leg of the wooden table....and the part where he stands up and colapses......and he hurt his neck where he is sitting at the table....I can understand the jerks think it looks funny (like when immature people are laughing at people who hurts themself).....but it is being really mean, that they provoke the attacks on purpose....if any of my friends did that to me, they wouldn't be my friends anymore

  • At least my case is not that severe, but if I'm sitting during a lecture, or a sermon, or I'm watching a completely boring movie, I'm bound to fall into REM sleep right away. Mine's are narcoleptic (sometimes cataleptic).

This is not a laughing matter. I can relate to this guy and tell right away that he's having a severe cataleptic attack. It's an auto-immune disorder (when the body fights against itself); for many individuals triggers are different.

  • @23Sleepingbeauty I've read all 4 of your replies and I agree wholeheartedly. The frequency of my symptoms have diminished in the past 3 weeks - like you said, it has a LOT to do with one's overall attitude towards life. And a good support system at that. The attacks rarely come, occasionally - it's not as severe as it used to be. It's tough to deal with, though - best of luck to you! Hopefully, you know what your triggers are; that's a first step to controlling the problem.

  • @SassySoulja4 That's awesome! So glad to hear...I thought about it some more and realized on our tired days how negative we can be sometimes. I know somedays for me I can laugh right along with everyone else and others I sometimes can get offended and get caught up in the negativity. Also when I was replying I didn't realize it was the same person lol. but yes it is tough for anyone with it with cataplexy or not.

  • I have dictionary definition Narcolepsy. That includes Cataplexy, Sleep Paralysis, Hypnagogic Hallucinations and Excessive Daytime Sleepiness. I have days were my Cataplexy is to that extent. It sucks but yeah he is laughing and can't control the lack of the hormone called Hypocretin. Hypocretin control wakefullness.Your mind falls asleep during a Cataplexy attack causing your body to drop. It is socially embarressing at times but whatever, it is all good. :) Damn Narcolepsy haha

  • @SierraJade220 So true. The only way we can control it is by considering a healthy nutrition, exercise, adequate rest, drinking water. When I tried those, with consistency, I haven't experienced any symptoms at all. But sometimes when I don't keep up, they come back during midday/afternoon hours. Sucks to be me :(

  • I have cataplexy and it use to be funny wait til he gets older and wants to have a life it sucks and embarassing I cried when I seen this video and had an instant attack. If only others really new what we were feeling they wouldn't trigger the attacks or egg them on. I hate cataplexy it has ruined my life and I'm only 31

  • @shanloca31 I'm only 21 and I've been a Narcoleptic since I was 16. I didn't start having cataplexy till I was around 19 - this is an annoying problem because people tend to think it's a laughing matter. But it does get very serious. My friends are deeply concerned about it. Doctors never found out what it was - they did. My episodes kick in at the worst times - so I do home schooling (college) and take care of chores at home. These boys shouldn't be teasing him. It's a very serious problem.

  • Poor him thats not funny ..i feel bad for him. u guys need top tease him thats not funny

  • after some minutes i felt really bad for him... what a bunch of great friends

    not

  • @michmateo yeah have the same problem, not much his friends can do I find tilting my head back so i can breath freely because your mouth shuts up when your in the attack.

  • My sister has cataplexy and I love it! I know I really shouldnt egg it on, but she doesnt mind when I triger her attacks, she seems to enjoy it. She gives them to her self all the time to by thinking something funny and she has an attack and she cant even finish the joke. Pain brings her out of her attacks like in the video when they said "some one hit him!" at 6:38. We call them "laugh attacks" when she has them at an inapropriate time she tells me to hurt her haha

  • I've been cataplectic and narcoleptic for 23 years. Had just about the same "episodes" as Zack 2 or 3 times last week. Can't stand the "stigma" that comes along with the meds I have to take, but other than that you laugh, you fall down, and you get over it. NO big deal. I can only speak for myself, but pity makes me angrier than someone making fun of it....seriously...we are living proof that it's okay to laugh at yourself! lololol :)

  • Ah poor kid. I have had days like that. He seems to have a more severe version, I wonder what his other triggers are? Something to remember is that He is conscious when this happens. its NOT a passing out thing. He can hear everything around him. I remember my friends having a hay day with me doing this when I was younger, ever since I fell and stabbed myself with scissors though... No one thinks it funny anymore. I hope they are cool and watch out for him.

  • At least he is collapsing in enjoyment!

  • he has a disease what is wrong about that just keep on playing the game and he will come back . It is not a show to watch. I sometimes feel sad when a person does that. What 's so funny about that. Stop making him laugh seriously just leave him alone. Dude you need real friends these friends of yours are making a show out of your disease you should get new friends.

  • Definitely, he needs a new group of friends.

  • @captk2003 It looks like that is their way of accepting him and they have no mal and mean attentions they just find it funny.

  • @CrusaderDom3 not funny when you're crossing a street, or walking down stairs, einstein. I've almost been killed twice, walking down the stairs in my house. broke the same arm, twice.

  • @iconografer your not a genius either. If you would make an attempt to understand what im say, you would know i was saying that its funny to his friends, if you look smartass their all laughing. no its not funny when your crossing the street. I myself am a sufferer of cataplexy. and when attacks happen around ppl I know how embarrasing it is. so dont try to lexture me !

  • he must be a scary driver

  • its funny my dad is passing out behind me laughing watching this cuz he has cataplexy.

  • @NHLinden does he really laugh waching this? cos I have cataplexy and I don't think that it is funny..

  • @LydiaLncTDB they´re acting.....dunt worry..If i know my "friends" tape that then they don´t know what friendship means!

  • I really wonder if his parents and the people that really love him are enjoying this video the same as we youtubers...

  • not funny

  • god i hope i have a catoplexic child one day

  • He needs better friends... Assholes lol

  • My muscle>LOL

  • And for some of you that don't know... yes it is exhausting. Not as bad if you just quit fighting to stay up or get back up... but it eventually will wear you out to the point that you just HAVE to sleep... with walking home in the snow too... maybe he just wanted to get home before he fell asleep over there too.

  • I have Cataplexy, and I used to hide from people and not socialize because of it. Honestly... Thanks for the video!! I'm trying to learn to be accepting of it and laugh and have fun with it and let my friends be there for me and make it fun. I think he just finally realized he couldn't stop laughing if he didn't leave personally. He needed to break the cycle. I wish I could let loose so much and just have fun! One day maybe... Thanks again!!!!!!

  • poor lad looks so worn out from it all by the end of this vid.

  • omg what if he died??!! thats so sad!! >:'O

  • Comment removed

  • @23Sleepingbeauty omg ur gonna comment everybodys? get a life

  • I would rather know that my friends understand that it is simply a condition that I cant control and that they can be amused by it, than hide in shame for fear that would have an attack! For those of you that don't realize it Cataplexy can be brought on by strong emotions, most commonly laughing....so he is basically laughing his ass off right with them, and that is why it keeps happening. U can clearly see him laughing....would you rather that he avoid social situations where he might laugh?!?!

  • FAKE??

  • thats not fcking funny u asses! he cant help himself! dont point and laugh! wtf! what if those jerks in the video try dealing with not being able to laugh or cry or get angry without not having control of ur own body! such assholes! they fcking laugh! omg this is making me angry i wanna slap them all!

  • Wow, I've seen videos where these peoples friends laugh and I can't help but laugh too, if only for a brief moment, but this? What the fuck is this? It's not just that you wouldn't stop laughing but you kept provoking the passing out. What kind of fucking assholes!?

  • If i knew all the kids in that room i would beat the living fuck out of all of them. The kid is asking for help and all they do is laugh, what the fuck is the matter with you people. And if your not gonna take him home like he asked, at least take him to the fucken sofa you dicks. And stop trying to trigger his problems. And you guys really let that kid walk home. you people have problems.

  • get the dude a pillow

  • Im guessin he could never drive...are their medications for that?

  • @rhwe4297 I have a type of cataplexy as a symptom of Narcolepsy, but luckily I don't have episodes from laughing....he obviously has the type that is brought on by strong emotions. I only know how mine works, and Im not sure where the distinction lies, but I imagine that you can JUST have the Cataplexy without the Narcolepsy, and maybe this is what he has. There is medication (provigil, Nuvigil) for Narcolepsy, but Im not sure if it would help him or not.

  • @frankensteinmoneymac provigil also known as modafinil is used to treat EDS(excessive daytime sleepiness) not cateplexy. to treat cateplexy you would take a specific type of antidepressant such as venlaflexine(which is what i take) every morning to prevent cataplectic attacks like the ones this guy was having.

  • @bballbabe3405 Interesting....I wish I knew of this before I ended up snapping my shin bone in 2 'bout 5 yrs ago!! LOL!!! Yeah, I was not told about a specific cataplexy med..When I was really bad back then( The last 2 yrs have been considerably better for me...) I was falling all of the time, injuring myself pretty badly at times (the worse being the compound fracture of my shin bone I mentioned...yeah the bone went trhough the skin & all that...Nasty Stuff!!!) Does the stuff work pretty good?

  • @rhwe4297 i have narcolepsy and cateplexy...i can drive, if you take medications. my guess is this guy doesnt take any medication yet. I remember before i was diagnosed this used to happen to me i hated it! it was soo embarrasing. but yeah you can deffinantly drive lol just dont have anyone make you laugh if thats the emotion that triggers the cateplexy attack. in my case and this kids it is.

  • @bballbabe3405 yes it works very well. i rarely ever experience cateplexy anymore:)

  • least he didnt shit himself

    hahahahaha

  • @YEAAASOOONNN It's people like this that i get offended about wait USED to but I smile and pass it off as no big deal cuz i realize its people that make these comments are the ones who are truly ignorant

  • Comment removed

  • thats messed up. he was obviously sick of it after awhile

  • Cataplexy is not "fainting" or passing out", but simply a switch in the brain turns your motor function off, yet you're fully conscious & awake. When you sleep & dream your brain turns off your motor function to avoid things like actually "running in your sleep" for example. In Cataplexy, the brain flips this switch while your awake. It's triggered by strong emotion. That is what Cataplexy is. Some cases are more severe and not so funny, but in this case it is pretty funny. Zach you rock! LOL

  • LOL this is too funny! Zach I feel for you. I've had the same thing happen to me. My friends & family think it's hilarious too. I always tell them that I'm happy my disorder can entertain you! LOL It's a vicious cycle. You go limp because you laugh, and you laugh harder because you go limp which only makes you go limp even more! I have the same disorder, so I can totally relate & I think this video is funny. Zach does too or he wouldn't keep falling down. LOL

  • @Teracuda EXACTLY if i can provoke laughter a good hearty laugh then my job is done cuz thats obviously what god put us narcs with cataplexy on this earth for
