  • A melhor bandas de todos os tempos !!!!!!!

  • He hit those highs while he still could !

  • whether the pitch bend on the guitar is deliberate or because of the tape quality, it certainly adds to the song

  • 2:55 is the legendary.

  • I like how it speeds up when it gets serious, awesome song

  • A vida são mentiras miseráveis...

  • I'm just a "country mile" behind the rest of the world .

Take me when you go .

    Classic !!!

Only Mozza and Weller could see a fallen Britain .

  • who writes lyrics like this anymore (including Morrissey)???

  • @LeGrandeOrange i love your comment on so many levels. i think we all have our moments of greatness...but no one has a lifetime of moments of greatness

  • "I look at yours, you laugh at mine, and life is just a miserable lie, you have destroyed my child-like life, not once but twice" - what genius!!!

  • FUCK I LOVE THIS SHIT!!!

  • best band in the fuckin' world!

  • ♥ x 100,000,001!!!!

  • my i say whalley range is still as shit as morrissey says it was in the 80s

  • I like the way he says 'drawing in' at 1:58 for some reason. :P

  • fucking ace.

  • Nice moves:D

  • tie between Mozzer and Ian Curtis for "dance most resembling a seizure"

  • I could seriously lay in bed all day watching Smiths concert footage. I really could. Its so damn amazing,

  • My favorite Smith's song ever!

  • My dad lives in Whalley Range

  • I love how the riff sounds different in the beginning

  • These live in Madrid postings I find to be the most accurate unfiltered document of what went down at the time. Thank you for posting.

  • W/e happened to that guy? I don't mean literally!

  • @Stube437 stopped caring

  • @Stube437 stopped caring literally

  • john peel said what i was ganna say

  • Andy Rourke, you can make a corpse dance!

  • compare the extended intro on this to the cribs' "stick to yr guns" methinks johnny marr's been recycling a bit - nothing against it though, always thought it was a great riff, both songs are fine example's of johnny's craft

  • reminds me of an old time movie

  • fuck spain!!!

  • Guitar sounds cool in this song.

  • THE BEAUTIFUL SOUND OF THE SMITHS

  • In all seriousness, what is there else to say? The Smiths are the greatest band from the 80's and still reign as the best bands ever in my opinion. The lyricism like this song and many others never seem to bore me at all, i can listen to it over and over. Morrissey will forever be great!!!! I just regret to never see The Smiths on stage. :( Great Upload!

  • Are there words for this? I think not. In this case, language is constrictive.

  • Although love is just a miserable lie, I love you so much, Morrissey.

  • I love The Smiths.... Marr's guitar, Morrissey's excentricities... so great!

  • I love LOVE the intro to this song

  • in effect, "falsetto" any human can do it

  • Incredible.

  • ''oh but please put your tongue away.'' This is the craziest, best concert footage I've ever seen. If I had a time machine and could go anywhere in history it would be this place on this night. Love The Smiths forever!

  • @remywood81 you wouldn't kill Hitler? wow. says a lot dude.

  • @kh2freek ahahahahaha!!! Took me a while to get it, but when I did I started laughing

  • @remywood81 If you think this is crazy you've obviously never seen a trash talk show

  • i had this on vhs yrs ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i bet morrissey can't do that voice nowadays

  • 3:05, how does he do it?!?! CraZzy.

  • It's called a 'Falsetto' any human on earth can do it if they strain their voice hard enough.

  • It doesn't always turn out pretty with everyone though, lol

  • Practice makes perfect.

  • Falsetto shouldn't strain - it's just you produce the sound with a different part of the mouth

  • "strain" was a wrong word, I ment kinda push it out.

  • Lyrics n music are just perfect...

I guess there's nothing else to say...

    We love you,Morrisey"

  • some of other my fav the smiths songs including this aint available on itunes. i guess im gonna have to buy the whole albums.

  • @ichibadbad

why dont you just download them from megaupload for free?

  • 1984 ish

  • do you know the year of this concert?

  • 85 or 87 at a guess

  • It's the 'Meat is Murder' tour plus they 'Shakespeare's sister' so 1985

  • @nathanch90

    for fuck sake.

Its 85. There madrid gig was in 85!! You call yourselfs fans?

  • i have to say this. The smiths are the greatest band period. I dont care what people say against them morrisey is amazing and i own all of there songs i love the smiths they rule!!

  • he wearing james dean jacket

  • la mejor cancion del primer disco y una de las mejores de todos los tiempos

  • mozza singing falsetto, fantastic!

  • wow

  • Rourke is bad ass

  • Marr is the best . . .

  • Best Smiths track

  • I'll stay with mine...

  • How come the album version of this song doesn't sound so pretty?

    Johnny is a freaking wizard.

  • yet all of you have sex

  • great.

  • I hadn't heard this song...

  • Fantastic bass line through the whole song!

  • Magical.

  • There is no other Smith's song like miserable lie..It starts off so poetic and simple then the possession catches you off guard and takes over.. From then on out you are in a musical free fall. All you could do then is just hold on tight and enjoy the ride.

  • Fantastic way to put it.

  • horrible way to put it

  • How would you describe it little girl.

  • a beautiful intro, improves upon the studio one, after the intro I have never really been a fan of this song, except for the line "What do you get for all your trouble and pain, just a rented flat in whalley range, whalley raaaannngggee" :-)

  • one line can do!- most songs have no lines woth mentioning at all!

  • true :-)

  • I know what you mean, i started getting into pretty girls make graves after i head, "you took my arm and said, give in to lust give up to lust, oh, heaven knows we'll soon be dust" and on rusholme ruffians i liked "hideous trait on her mother's side"(vagina) and "scratch my name on your arm with a fountain pen, this means you really love me". morrisey always has something awesome to say in his lyrics. oh and "if you ever need self validation, just meet me in the alley by the railway station"

  • and possibly listen to "Suffer Little Children", "Shakespeare's Sister" and "Miserable Lie" again! Saying that, I am totally aware that everyone has their own opinions.

  • This is a particularly spectacular version of "Miserable Lie", I couldn't say it's better or worse than the LP version because the studio and the stage are two completely different places. Although the introductory section which isn't on the LP should have definitely been recorded.

"I don't like this song because it's like a simplified version of Suffer Little Children..." - if one truly believes this, I think you should reconsider everything that The Smiths were, everything that music is, ...

  • a brilliant song, its very ignorant to say this is just like suffer little children because it is completely differnet u fool!!!!!

  • Im not denying that Jonny Marr is an amazing guitarest, but underrated? i think everyone knows how good he is tbh

  • I don't like this song because it's like a simplified version of Suffer Little Children - or an out take of Marr practising it, then it goes into a simplified Shakespeare's Sister thing. An amalgam of two better smiths songs is what I mean!

  • awesome, so so so much better than the lp version

  • I agree, the Greatest band ever, and yeah th music is Heartbreaking and joyfull at the same time. Marr, Rourke, Moz and Joyce Love U all..

  • Johnny Marr is the most underrated guitarist of all time. He can literally make my soul feel despair and great joy simultaenously. Its a thing of rare beauty

  • hell yeah marrs the shit

  • Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • greatest british group ever

they ll never reform cause they have more sense

  • greates group period!!

  • god!morrissey is sooooo hot,i have a huge crush on him,his perfect....*sigh* i`m in love

  • i wish they would have kept the intro on the album version. its so good

  • Agreed

  • Spectacular intro... Morrissey is God

  • love is a miserable lie. The intro is beautiful.

  • i cant wait till morrissey tours again i'm so get tickets.

  • Mmm I can't believe how fantastic he still is.

  • the magical Morrissey era, you are soo missed!!

  • I love You Tube so I can watch historic stellar performances of the Smiths!!!YAY!

  • this is so beautiful ; The Smiths are great

  • Bravo!

Wow I believe this is when Morrissey was at his best!Look At him go! sighs!:)

and well Look at Johnny go!

    Ahhhh How delightful:)

    Marisela

  • :______

  • yes bro morrissey and oscar wilde rules

  • has anyone ever hit the high note on a song as morrissey did here. this song was seldom played live in the later years of the smith's tours. what a shame the song is brilliant both lyrically and musically.

  • does anyone know the set list for the madrid show?

  • im sure more people can relate to these than the beatles, so why arent these the best band ever, well they are, so ssshh.

  • well to be honest comparing the two is unfair.

you are talking two different eras/decades what have you.

it would be as unfair as comparing morrissey to ANYTHING nowadays

(bc we know it all sucks comparitively)

  • brilliant. who are these guys??? the world was not ready for the Smiths.

Long live Morrissey, our Oscar Wilde.

  • Mozz is the only singer that can sing that high and get away with it; The Smiths were wonderful

  • this song is wonderfull

  • Amazing song.

    Love it!

  • he hates "people" in general just people. no joke he said it on jonathan ross i think

  • "In just a c***...."

  • "I'm just a country mile behind the world"

    So true!

    <3 <3 <3

  • best guitar intro to any song...ever

    best intro for that matter

  • they just dont make music like that these days...johnny marr.. my hero

  • its true

  • fukin love the smiths this song is immense, how the fuk does he keep playing that bass line for like 3 minutes straight?

  • makes my belly go *mmmmh* every time:')

  • This song had gotten me thorugh alot of miserable lies...Lol....This is truly one of the best of the Smiths....Johnny Marr, and Morrisey ROCK!!!!!

  • one off my fave smiths tunes , at least the most emotional one ,and there are a lot, is suffer little children, they only ever played it live once and never again, its was kinda controversial, nearly ended their career, sadly its not on you tube, beautiful song, and the most lyrically crafted song ive ever heard, its narrated my multiple characters.

  • Just an interesting fact "Suffer Little Children" was The Smiths very first song...the song was made the same day Morrissey and Jonny Marr first met.

  • This song is the craziest of the smiths. However it's crazy, it's awsome too. The performance is perfect too. Morrissey - Marr are the best

  • Great tune again, i may be looking in wrong places but is there a version of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle live anywhere on here after Well I Wonder for me as me fave tune

  • the only good out of the 80s was this band. they were the best!

  • dear peopletalking - i understand. it's almost sickening. this visceral love of something you are at once close to and removed from. oh...

  • It's painful how much I love the Smiths. And this song too. I just groan with utter....I'm not sure what the feeling is...

  • I´d like to thank who posted this video - absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

  • The first 1:40 of this is absolutely sublime. Johnny Marr is of the stars. Thank you for posting.

  • This is such a GREAT performance!!! classic indeed!!!

  • My favourite Smiths song for a very long time...C-H-I-L-L-S!!!

  • impresionante!!!!!!!!!

  • For me, this is the greatest known live performance of any song by any band ever known to this galaxy... It's so good it puts the original studio version to shame (not hard, due to how poorly recorded it was)

Not to mention the whole gig, was also the best ever recorded.

  • thelife is just a miserable lie it's a fact

  • really good song, it bring me memories of high school,

  • Powerful performance!

  • I will never understand how Mozz could play in a place that were created only to torture and kill animals (bulls)... that´s Las Ventas in Madrid.

  • That means nothing whatsoever! It's just a venue. In fact, don't you think its a good way to call attention to the butchery that occurred there? Raise awareness? C'mon! Think!

  • id be interested to know what jimi hendrix would've thought of johnny. he may have had to reconsider how greater his own talents actually were. im opening a can of worms on that one. though still i back johnny enormously.

  • Apples and oranges. Jimi and Johnny were on completely different wavelengths.

  • what do we get for our trouble and pain? just a rented room in whalley range

  • johnny marr is the most beautifully melodic guitar player ever. I mean what a guitar intro

The Smiths morrissey + marr = equal parts genuis

  • no better chemistry than marr and rourke.

  • Marr is God, the guitar intro is so beutiful.

  • I recognize that mystical air. It means I'd like to seize your underwear.

  • I know that wind whipped mystic air means I like to see your underwear...only if your a girl....hehe :)

  • wow cool as in cool hehehe

  • I'm just a country mile behind the whole world!!

  • 1985

  • I don't know if I can say how much I love your casual way -- but please put your tongue away.

  • I love the beginning.

  • Brilliant the extra bit at the begining rejuvinated the love of the song for me again.

  • God Damn that man is sexy!

  • Marr is equally sexy.

  • Fabulous!!!!

  • gfgg

  • im gonna use this song for my sk8 part=)

  • His voice is spot on! Amazing performance.

  • morrisey's falsetto is amazing :P

  • what year was this concert?

  • Has anyone else ever noticed, when the Smiths are playing live, they always play extra bits at the start?

  • me too!!! i lvoe this song, this is liek there closest to sounding almost punk but yea great perfomance

  • Wish i was there. amazing
