  • Hi man. I have a question to you: could you do a simple tutorial how to do texts like that, in your video? I cant found guides. please, im new enter for Premiere...

  • Looks really good! When shooting in 24p what shutter speed did you use? I have the Canon XA10 and I can't seem to get my pans or zooms to look that smooth.

  • all looks great!! Question: what are the best aperture and/or shutter settings i should be using for filming video that I'll turn into slow motion later? (I have an hf s10)

  • question so on the four corners of the screen i see dark spots is that because of the camrea hood

  • The vignette is a digital effect commonly found in many editing programs; the raw footage has absolutely no vignetting.

  • Outstanding!

  • Interesting. Because it looks almost identical. Thanks for the info though.

  • Love the grass shot. Well done.

  • The vignette on the edges appear like the ones you see when Magic Bullet "Blockbuster" look is slapped on a video, but not tweaked.

  • I used the Final Cut Pro stock plugin for the vignette effect. Nothing special, but the entire film was color corrected and graded with stock plugins. I didn't even have Magic Bullet at the time.

  • How did you convert 60i into 30p, thus creating the slow motion shots?

  • did you extract the 24p using something like Avisynth?

  • Hey Hiidefiniton! I've got one question: You say that you captured those slowmotion scenes in 60i..... but where can I find that? Well I have had certain problems when I ve tried to create slomoe's... Its always lagging :(... My Canon Legria HFS21 is on 50i... there are only 2 options: 50i or PF25. What should I use, I dont know what they mean :D Recording Mode is on 24 Mbps. I thought in would be the best quality.. Could you help me? Thank a lot :)

  • @Toberoon Remember to film on higher FPS when you are going to make the shot in slowmotion.

  • @Toberoon usually 60 fps would do the trick ;)

  • Great quality but you can see the edges of the wide angle lense the whole way through this video... the black fuzz around the corners... how does one avoid this if wide angle lenses are only supposed to be used when the camera is fully zoomed in...?

  • what filters did you use?

  • you know what i think? i think u should make a short film

  • hey did u use adapter to put the wd58 or it fits without it?

  • @NightmareSender If he is using the Vivxia HF S21 then he would not need an adapter for the WD-H58 Wide Converter, because it fits a 58mm filter thread.

  • @ornitorrinco01

Can I use Canon EF lenses which have a 58mm filter thread? I want to put an 85mm F1.2 lens on my Vixia.

  • @heartm8 I don't think that an EF lens would work with the Vixia, I could be wrong but I thought that the EF lenses only work with the EOS DSLRs.

  • Awesome video! Thanks!

One question - I have been researching HF S200s and HF S21s and I was wondering if you knew of any obvious differences between the two? Thanks in advance.

  • @CassieMeder

I just made the same comparison. I bought the S20 refurbished on the Canon website. I probably would have bought the S21, which has viewfinder and build in memory, S20 has built in memory only, and S200 has neither. I was going to buy S200, which is the best value (dont go lower in the Canon line, the sensor quality is less ) but memory cost the same as the extra $50 for the S20. Get the WD-H58 wide angle lens off ebay, and the Canon top mount mic and you're set.

  • hows the mic on this camera? good enough for youtube videos like kevjumbas?

  • look my video

  • you need a glietrack bud

  • I absolutely agree!

  • Can the Canon HF S20 Shoot at 1920x1080 @ 60FPS?

  • It can shoot 60i, which is technically "60" frames per second, but it is better describes as 30 interlaced frames per second.

  • Comment removed

  • What size is the wide-angle?

    0,66x ???

    THX4message!!!

  • Its actually .7x

  • @HiiDefinition is this canon vixia better than SOny 550v which is only 1080i? This canon is old now though so what is the newest, best camcorder that is 1080p?

Also how do you color correct things, in the editing process?

  • I am looking for a wide angle lens and they always say with macro lens. What is that?

  • Macro lenses give the ability to focus on objects that are centimeters away from the camera's lens. Normally a camcorder wouldn't be able to focus on really close subjects, however this lens gives this ability.

  • @HiiDefinition Does the Canon Vixia HF S21 have these kind of accessories available to buy? (the wide angle and the macro lenses)

  • wow, very cool vid. I recommend you for color correction magic bullet. great software, very easy to use.

  • Excellent!! It's really nice effect and colour is incredible. could you send me an e-mail to me also, please?

I would really appreciate it. THANKS!

  • Excellent Video and excellent Quality!

  • Great but why isn't it stabilized?

  • Hey,

I sent you an email about the settings you used to make this Film look.

    Could you reply?

    Thanks!

  • man thats a outstanding job you did, i have vixia hf s200 and final cut pro 7 imac i movie please tell me step by step how did you got such a beautiful effect , thx, cheers

  • @lolpwned Thank you.

  • I have the Canon Vixia HF S200 and a 50mm f1.8 prime lens. Can I use a wide angle lens attached to the 50mm lens, or can the wide angle lens only be used directly on the camera's lens? I appreciate any help. Thanks.

  • This looks really good! How did you get that look in post?

  • I used color correction in FCP, and I had to play around a lot with the settings to get this specific look. If you want a similar effect in your videos, contact me at: hiidefinition@gmail.com

  • @HiiDefinition you did a great job!

    keep it up!

  • thanks!

  • your gonna go somewhere

  • how do you get that awesome look? is it the camera or an editing program?

  • yes, I like the feel of the video :D :D

  • hey there amazing video honestly, i would love to videos like this and hoping to buy this camera soon... i wanted to know if you can edit videos to get this kind of quality on Final Cut Express 4.0?

  • Settings please

  • Wow...great job, man....really great job! This thing looks AMAZING (especially for a consumer level camera). I've been going back and forth with which to buy, but I knew I definitely would prefer a Canon...I think it's good settled now! Looks like a movie and not a camcorder! Especially not one that fits in your hands...

    Thanks for the videos!

    CGG

  • feels like a real movie :D great job

  • How did you convertd the AVCHD vido?! Please reply!

  • How do you set the camera to make things in slow motion, or sped up? What is the rules on this ?

  • Well, first off, you must shoot at a frame rate that is at least higher than 24p or 30p, such as 60i, 60p, etc. Then through editing, you can slow down the footage down with clear results. However this all depends on the frame rate shot, and the frame rate of the time line in editing. For example, through frame blending in editing, I'm able to slow down 60i (100% speed: normal) footage on a 30fps time line to 50% speed with clean results. Any further than 50%, such as 49%, will create ghosting.

  • @HiiDefinition so you cannot do this directly through the camera but through the editing process

  • Hey there... I have also bought an HFS21.... but I can't edit videos via After Effects or other professional programs. Because the videos get saved as ".mts" ..... After effects CS5 doesnt support it. What can I do now? How can I convert them? thanks

  • Well, you must convert the files, and it seems to be the only solution. A cheap solution that provides lossless quality is to import directly through Final Cut Express 4; the files will automatically be converted to .mov (compatible with AE).

  • @Toberoon After Effects CS5 DOES Import .mts files, I edit them all the time. You just have to have the full version, the trial version cannot.

  • @IoIpwned regarding exporting .mts format which selection is the best for maintaining the video camera quality?

  • @ThruSkryingCoagula For best quality... I would suggest following this tutorial.. /watch?v=Iip7a89sCUI&feature=related

I know he shows it for video game exporting... But it works the same way with actual real life footage. I've gotten nice quality with low file size before.

  • WOW i was going to buy the HV40 but this looks supremeo

  • Did you squeeze that down to 2.35? You should crop so you maintain proper aspect

  • amazing, i saw the other video aswell, do you use a fluid head tripod? any suggestions for me, cant' find a good but not so expensive fluid head tripod, also i got a canon hf with the WD-H58 lens

  • DAM GREAT VIDS MAN but does the camera have manual focus??

  • Yes, it has a focusing knob and a control on the LCD screen.

  • @HiiDefinition would you rather buy a canon eos 550d (t2i) or this camera (vixia hf s20) ? and why? thanks! by the way i subed

  • Hey, thanks for the support! Anyway the T2i because of the depth of field capabilities, and awesome light sensitivity.

  • Camera technology of this quality at this price will do amazing things for the cottage film industry. Of course, it'll lead to a proliferation of work - not all of it inspiring - but when we sift through it all, we may find the next Coppola or Hitchcock or Welles who was able to get a start without having to sell his(or her) soul to fund it. I love this because it will help put creative control back in the hands of the creative as portable audio recording has done for music in recent years.

  • this looks amazing!, are you using any program after filming it and before uploading it?

  • read the description

  • whats the name of the song at 0:17 ??

  • How do you made it widescreen i dont get it hehe

  • If you are using AE, take a black solid and mask out a section, or if you have FCP, use the widescreen plugin.

  • BBC Top Gear - use a vignette often - I recently noticed - to create a mood

  • very nice. I'm getting myself the canon xa10 when it comes out.

  • you are a very good film maker! respect!

  • Thanks, appreciate it.

  • I have the hfs 200. Just wondering how you like the WD H58. Would you recommend it? How is the image quality? Also, are lens hoods still compatible with it on? Thanks in advance

  • where do you get that intro?

  • I made it myself.

  • @HiiDefinition What software did you use to create your intro?

  • This intro is one of my older ones, it was made in FCP 7.

  • hey how can i get that song? i like it

  • Gorgeous...thank you for sharing...I just ordered this camera...cant wait to play! :)

  • Hey man. How do you get this effect??

  • Hey man, do you use the official Canon WD H58, or will the WD H58 from Digital Concepts suffice (It is much, muuuuch cheaper on EBay, but it appears to have the same specs)?

  • Which program have you used for the color correction and the transformation of the aspect ratio?

  • what the name or where can i find the song in this vid? thanks

  • I like the look of it, and panning is nice. I think the color is too warm-seems to red.

  • @HiiDefinition which is the best camcorder s21, s20 or s200?

  • wich is the the best from that camcorders s21,s20 or s200 ?

  • Well I use NTSC, (different from PAL), but I recommend using custom settings, setting it with 25fps, progressive, 1920 x 1080, etc.

  • Canon VIXIA HF S200 or Canon VIXIA HV 40???>>Please answer cause im really looking forward to buy one of this two.!!

  • Posted a response to that in my other video.

  • I have the hfs200, where can I find lenses for it????

  • Wherever they sell them, amazon, newegg, etc.

  • I really like this video, I use FCP too, what kind of filters you use for get that picture? and how you make the color correction through COLOR? or the normal 3 WAY COLOR CORRECTION IN FCP? Thanks man!

  • I really like this video, I use FCP too, what kind of filters you use for get that picture? and how you make the color correction through COLOR? or the normal 3 WAY COLOR CORRECTION IN FCP? Thanks man!

  • I did not use Color for this video, I used Three-Way Color Correction, RGB-Balance, and Vignette.

  • Beautiful, thanks for this.

  • Is the S20 about the same image quality as the S21?

  • They are identical in image quality.

  • Can you tell me the name of the song please? And the intro i like the intro where can i get it

  • Is it the WA lens causing the vignetting. Was thinking of getting one But won't if thats what happens??

  • No, the dark-edged corners seen in this video is caused solely from a digital effect called a VIGNETTE, the RAW footage did not contain any vignetting.

  • @HiiDefinition I would love to upgrade to the canon vixia hf s21 one days. But my one question is the canon hf 21 a great camcorder because it is on sale now for around 500 dollars, I plan on buying this camcorder first because it is within my budget. Also, is the canon hf 21 one of the best for the 500 dollar range.

  • Hi! Great video. Just picked up the Canon Vixia S200. What mode would you recommend for these two types of situations?

Outdoor Sports. (I want to use slow motion effects in Cyberlink PowerDirector 9 to capture shots, Lacrosse) I'm thinking FXP and 30p?

Snow Skiing (on cloudy days) FXP and 24F?

  • Very stunning HD. I myself am thinking about getting a HF S200. I also want a wide angle lens, how much did it cost you? And also what is the use of the filters? Would you recommend them? If you do how much do they cost? Thanks :)

  • Why did you shoot in 60ffps and convert to 24fps? Why not just shoot in 24?

  • You can't magically create more frames with 24p to create slow motion, I used the highest amount of fps on my camcorder to get butter-smooth slow motion. Later on, I converted the slow motion clips to 24fps.

  • You can't magically create more frames with 24p to create slow motion, I used the highest amount of fps on my camcorder to get butter-smooth slow motion. Later on, I converted the slow motion clips to 24fps.

  • @HiiDefinition Oh ok, if you're going to do slow motion in post and don't know which shots you will use, that makes sense. Is 60p to 24fps a natural conversion? I know 30fps to 24 fps is not a perfect conversion.

  • @HiiDefinition how do u convert 60 fps to 24fps?

  • I have the Canon M30 can i get your look with ny Canon M30?

  • Wrong aspect ratio.

  • i am really looking forward to getting this camera some time in 2011. i love the looks of it,and it's a great video, one thing i would like to tell you though is i would have cropped the clips to make them the correct film aspect ratio, versus distorting them, or distorted some and cropped the rest, so that the people don't look wide and fat, and the cars don't look weird. it's alright for landscapes but when you get near detail it looks funny.

  • i just bought this camrea i wold like to know the exact camrea settin u set ur camrea to to make it look likr that

  • hey, just got one of these vixia HFS20 model, wondering what SDHC cards ya using?

  • im not sure whether to get this or the m30

  • Thinking of buying the HFS200 for outdoor wildlife shooting, there will be lots of low light conditions and of course the elements. It's in my budget and I am definitely an amateur, Is it the right cam?

  • I'm wondering what NLE software you use. I bought the HF S21 recently and am struggling mightily with Adobe Premiere Elements 8. Everything is choppy, regardless of my recording mode or the setup I choose in PE8. Very frustrating...

  • It would look more like a movie if you used a tripod, also, you are stretching the image to get the "movie" aspect ratio, you should crop it.

  • are you free-handing the camera or do you use a rig?

  • Hi, what's the song called? I tried Shazam on my iPhone to identify it but no luck. Thakns!

  • @tempid159 did you get the name of the song ???? love it

  • no :(

  • Miss your videos man. I keep going back to the channel and rewatching all again.

  • I'm sorry man, I'm working really hard to get my latest disaster film under way, and I'm also working on two more films that have to do with depth field. I have not given up making films by a long shot. Anyway, I promise to all my viewers that those will come some time before the end of december. Plus I'm working with other filmmakers and getting their projects off the ground. I know those films will be worth the wait, and you won't be disappointed. Please be patient!

  • @HiiDefinition No problem, totally understand. Would be cool to see your other work that your working on with toher filmmakers. Cant wait to see your new video.

  • @HiiDefinition why do you mention all the Canon models in your title when u don't compare and contrast them?? I want to figure out which Canon model is the best value?

  • The three cameras mentioned in my titles are identical in image quality, why compare three cameras when there is absolutely no difference in image quality?

  • @whole27 oh ok, are they the same in all other specs like image stabilization? Also how much was this wide angle lens?

  • The wide angle lens is amazing, although it's pretty pricey, however there is almost no visible distortion, and the entire image, even the corners, are tack sharp.

  • is this cam good for snowboarding?

  • i like the feel of this film, it feels like the front of my monitor, which is warm!

  • What import settings and export settings do you use in Final Cut? I'm having trouble losing quality/too big of file sizes. . .thanks!

  • Well I could really get into detail, but I usually use quicktime or H.264 at about 20,000-30,000 kbits/sec. This usually has no loss in quality and makes manageable files.

  • @HiiDefinition

Loved your video style and music selected for it!!!

Not sure why your 2.35 aspect ratio appears squished instead of cropped, and would of been much nicer in the color correction if the dark corners of the image could of been eliminated. I do like the overall color, but find the dark corners distracting.

I would also like the previous poster would love to know the details of your FCE import or ingestion settings as well as what setting you are using to shoot the video itself.

  • Thanks, glad you liked it! Although the vignette (dark edges) is a personal taste, and I think it makes the picture a bit more dramatic and filmic. Anyway, it's just an opinion. To import the clips I used both ProRes (non-slow motion clips @ 24p) and Uncompressed (slow motion clips @ 60i), and to export I used MPEG4, H.264.

  • Yo, I have a hf s200, can it look this good also?

  • Well yeah, I can't see why not.

  • hello as he gives the film look with the camera or with the program.

  • i own a canon 550D and thinking of getting this cam would you recommend ?

  • Absolutely, it exceeded my expectations ;)

  • @HiiDefinition Hmmm alright i will think about it haha :)

  • Hi, very nice.

What's the name of the music you used?

  • you know you can use white balance adjustments to get the green blue effect right?, with out the use of filters, I have a panasonic lumix fz28k and converted the video to 24p and the audio from mono to a 2 channel stereo all for free!! :)

  • First off, when I say "filters", I mean the effects applied, also known as "filters" in FCP 7. Second off, you have very limited control over the color when adjusting the white balance. Simply adjusting the white balance to a bluish tint simply won't sell the effect.

  • @HiiDefinition Well your right, but having the camera on a tripod and the white balance to your specification might make closer than you think. For example my camera has the ability to adjust the white balance manually giving me the option to choose my color, as well as adding a warm color effect to the video i record, also using programs such as windows live moview maker (< so inexpensive right?) you can convert the 30p or fps, into 24p using the custom setting when saving a video

  • Alright thats fine, I understand that these programs can be somewhat expensive and you want to save money, but color correcting is an art in itself, and people pay good money for color correcting programs for a reason. Color correcting can dramatically change the mood, and make simple video clips into amazing film equivalent footage. Anyway, I'm sure you can get away with some shots with your technique, but having that ability is worth it in my opinion.

  • What filters were used to enhance the picture and what is distorting each clip by negative 33%

  • Does the WD H58 lens fit the S20?

  • @Villesanti good question i hope he answers it

  • answered it ;)

  • Of course it does, why wouldn't it? If did some research you would find that the S20, S21 and S200 are all very similar in design, and have the same filter diameter.
