The templedog version with the yellow fox looks great, i was wondering what order you put the materials on, is it the bucktail first, then yellow fox then black wing? also do you roll the yellow fox all around the hook or just underneath?
Look forward to all your videos, tied some of your gold bodied willie gunn tubes and found your technique for rolling the bucktail a great help.
I would normally put the stiffest hair on first like the bucktail to help support the softer hair and as well to help stop the hair wrapping the hook..The Willie Gunn is the best fly you could have in your box anywhere there's salmon...Thanks for the kind words about the videos and flies...
Hi dave Im new to fly tying and was just wondering if it would be ok to use shlappen hackle instead of the chinese cock hackle your using ..i only have that in charteuse at the minute P.S your videos are absoloutly great , there helping me alot ..thanks for taking e time o do them ....are you planning on doing anymore salmon flies :) Thanks
Schallpen hackles will do fine as I have used many colours of them in this way, I will probably be tying more flies in the future and thankyou very much for the kind words...
Have a Happy New Year when it arrives....ATB Davie
I have sent you a link to the cape that I ued in the video, but have a search on ebay as you can find some nice capes or even strung hackles which are very good as well..
Hi dave i have watched lots of your videos could you possibly send me a link to what wax you use and glue i have recently started fly tying and enjoy it but would like to get the proper stuff over time as i see its quite expensive, also me my brother and friend were wondering if you have dvds of yourself tying a variety of different types of fly for sale we think you should anyway keep up the beautiful work
Hi Davie Again, I also cannot find a good supplier for Chinese Cock Hackle.. I watch You use it allways and it seems great to work with.. If you could also help with that, I surely would appreciate it.
I have sent you a link to the wax I use and the name of the superglue which you will find in America..The only company that I know that have Chinese capes are Veniards here in the U.K they are a wholesaler and supply most of the tackle shops.
Hello Dave from Baton Rouge, Louisiana USA.. I enjoy your videos Greatly and have learned much from You. Can You provide me the supplier of your Super Glue and Tying Wax you keep on your finger.. Again, Really learned a lot from YOU!!
Hi Davie, an excellent looking fly and I really like the profile of the Loop down eye doubles... can you recall the size of hook you were using please? Thanks, Antony.
beautiful davie, i notice your using a lot of wax on this fly, what is the reason for this, and do you find that it is better than prewaxed thread? peace love fish
When I first started tying I would never be without wax on my table but as I tyed more and more and got quicker and tighter with my thread turns I started to use it less and less but I still liked using it at points to control and hold certain materials,. But over the last year here on Youtube looking closely at all the questions I have been asked I felt this would be the answer to the problems that many tyers were having.I will be using it more often.
I've tyed a few of these flies for the river Dee here in Scotland to be fished in the spring of the year, but I know of many a salmon caught throughout the season tyed on small alloy tubes to 2 inch copper and from clear to dark water, it's just a good fly.
great salmon fly davie,i like the colour , and good to see the use of wax on building the fly i do this quite a lot, keep the vids coming davie, all the best and happy wrappings, davey, antrim.
