  • you can just tell that Mr. Hartsell R.I.P. is one who exhibits absolute humility and great character, he was the real deal, as a human bieng and as a martial artist, no bullshit from him. I wish I could have traind with him.

  • what a great video, thanks for posting this one - and he shows what real men do... he was beaten up by Bruce Lee and became his student, not his envious foe. Too bad I missed his seminar in the late 1990s as he came to Italy. RIP

  • seems like a genuine guy r.i.p. old warrior.

  • You know, what really comes across in these interviews is the humility of these gentlemen!

  • I used to train a lot with Sifu Larry after meeting and training with him in Ft Worth in the Mid 80's. I was interested because I had years of grappling and at that time he was getting the JKD Grappling Assoc going....one of the few arts that REALLY blended grappling with everything else from striking to weapons. I especially hit all his training sessions in the MidWest until I returned to Dallas. He was an AWESOME teacher. I went on to focus on Silat, but He was really great. RIP

  • The place where Sifu Hartsell and Randy White took those pictures was at our school. (Crows Martial Arts Academy) You can see the group picture of Dan, Larry, Steve, and Sifu/Guro Crow in the back ground on the wall.

  • One of the greatest. R.I.P.

Just putting it out there, this amazing Sifu has a bunch of JKD books.

These books are great catalysts and series.

  • the premier jkd streetfighter. he would give you the shirt off his back

  • I still miss him and still think of the man every day. It would have been cool for him to see my son beating everyone in grappling tournaments utilizing Sifu Larry's stuff. He would have been proud.

  • Larry was an awesome martial artist and a good friend, he will be missed!

  • grand master larry hartsell....simply ...THE MAN......there will never be another like him.

  • R.I.P. HOMEY...

  • I met Sifu Hartsel in 1989. We went to his seminars in the midwest 2 to 3 times a year in my case for over 6 years. I hate grappling. I'm no good at it. He made me want to train it. I ended up training in judo for a bit because of him. Which led me to the coolest traditional martial artist I've met outside of Kali or silat. The world is a little less dimmer with the loss of Larry.

  • I met Larry Hartsell years ago. I found him very knowledgeable in serrada escrima, my first system. Of course many other areas of all types of martial arts. His kicking, boxing, trapping to grappling range was amazingly strategic the way he had us train it. I got to understand JKD more that seminar. I heard a lot about Ron Kosakowski and his fighting skills in various styles being amazing also. I spoke to him on the phone. He is a funny humble guy. My heart goes out to all of you who miss him.

  • I saw this video and can say that Sifu Hartsell is a real teacher. I know because I have know him for over 20 years. I am a Instructor under him, I saw a remark from Gurojon don't even listen to him he took a few seminars from him. I Trained jon. Jon got cerfiy from in JKD, but Larry wife (Ha-HA) gave jon a rank. JOKE

  • Who was the beautiful woman at the beginning?

  • I have been learning and teaching WC/Kali in the UK for 31 years now. 22 years ago i was influenced by Larry Hartsell when i attended one of his seminars. Then every time he was in the UK Midlands i attended. He stayed at a close friend and instructor mate of mine and i was fortunate enough to spend time with him out of class. I am and teach what i do today because of LH. He was a great influence in my combat life, an eye opener in the mid 80s to what i was used to. RIP Larry Hartsell. Chaz

  • JunFanJimi's account is closed. Too bad I wanted to ask him to come to TX where I would love to invite him to a little friendly get together where I can demonstrate the effectiveness of the type of grappling that Hartsell is talking about. JunFanJimi is a loser! Hartsell lives forever!

  • WHY DID LARRY STOP TEACHING KENPO & SsHOTOKAN?

  • Disrespecting the deceased is a new low for you, Jimi.

  • So SharpestBlade we are to respect Hitler because he is now dead. You soppy dope.

  • right yeah Hitler ...nice analogy....

Rather be a soppy dope than a rude fat fuck anyday!!

How is that possible for a Jeet Kune Do expert anyway???

    Talk less, train more.

  • Lol, let me get this right then Sharpboy, your telling me that I'm disrespectful of a dead soul because I question what they did,not then but what they did, but you call people with filthy language while there alive and call that respectful I suppose. Plus your speeking for a dead man who wasn't exactly slim while he was alive.Your just making yourself look like a 15yrs old instead of 35yrs old. Like I said your soppy. What did you know about Hartsell the man? I only spoke of his art,not of him

  • So SharpestBlade why don't you tell us all about Larry, the persona, the man, the times you shared together in NAM?

Perhaps your story won't be too SOPPY.

  • How is that even the same thing? That's what they call a straw man. Bruce Lee is nothing like Hitler. You don't disrespect a good man that has passed away.

  • who did you study under?

  • In a nut shell you are a fool. guro/sifu Larry was very aware of what was going on.

  • Great video!

  • R.I.P Sifu Hartsell. I wish I've known you.

  • What type of cancer had Sifu Hartsell?

I meet Sifu Hartsell in Italy seminar 3 years ago,he was a very good man.

  • I met him about 15 years ago when he visited our jeet kune do academy in Cincinnati. He was freindly and complementary of the students he observed. Very nice guy. He will be missed.

  • =,[ Damn!

  • oh no i never heard he died...im so very sorry rip larry

  • @blutobelushi yeah i just found out he died five minutes ago. I never knew Sifu Hatsell, but he helped to promote the growth of Jeet Kune DO and Martial Arts in General. Thank You Sifu Larry Hartsell

  • R.I.P Sifu Larry Hartsell.

  • I would like to thank every one for the kind words about Sifu Larry Hartsell here. I get many e-mails from people who didn't even know him as well as people who have trained with him...it hits them all in the heart as to what happened to him. I miss him and think of him every day!

You will see a man training in this video in a blue shirt on named Dave. He has been with me since 1991. He also died of cancer only months after Larry Hartsell passed away from it. I miss the both of them!

  • grappling has been around before the gracies and mr hartwell like ron said nobody thought they needed it. its one of the oldest arts if not the oldest people just love to hit people especially in american society.

  • My name is Adam Hartsell.

I am infatuated with JKD and my brother also is very proficient with it, and is about to enter cage fighting.

Does this run in the Hartsell gene's or what? :D

  • Thank you Sifu Hartsell for the time training together.

  • Sifu Larry passed away from cancer. He died 5 days after his 65th birthday. A very sad day for the martial arts community. I have lost a true friend and mentor but I will never forget him or the knowledge he passed on to me.

    Tim

  • What is the cause of his die?

  • I didnt hear the sad news...my heart is broken.

    RIP Larry

  • My heart goes out to Sifu Larry Hartsells Family, Guru Inosanto, and Mr Kosakowski for there loss... Though I did not personally meet Mr. Hartsell, I know he was great and a true martial artist and person.. Indeed he will be missed...May God Bless him!!! Jamen Zacharias

  • r.i.p. Larry Hartsell
