It truly was a golden age, despite what little they knew back then, racism, and propaganda, it must have been an amazing time to live in North America. Listening to my parents talk about growing up in the 50's, it wasn't uncommon for middle class folks to buy a new car every two years or sooner (with cash) and having their homes paid in a few years... todays life is so different.
Ahh the 1950s. If I could go back to any decade in history it'd be the 50s because it was when my parents were born and I'm interested in learning how they grew up. Even though I'm black, I though this time frame was pretty good for the most part since we just won World War II and we Americans practically ruled the world. Must have been great. I was born in the 1990s (1990 to be exact) so things were pretty different back then.
I now that it was bad with segregation and in Cuba with Fidel Castro and Communism but I really loves the 1950's because of the clothes, cars, and music was good. Yeah they did not have iPods and video games and yea that the tv gave off radiation and sucked but I will always love 1950's America.
If your intentions were to emphasize racial tention in the 50s, I would have liked to have seen a bit more information addressing it as opposed to a 10 second slideshow at the end of a 3 minute video. A "by the way" statement doesn't do a thesis justice; it was rather unbalanced.

I tend to look at the society as a whole, and find that the 1950's still stand far and away as a better time and place than the decrepit and broken one of today. It's shameful what the blacks had to endure during that time period but it was also that great generation of WW2 who put an end to it. Hmmmmm .... I'm just not sure what is trying to get across. The contrast from the terrible aspects of the 1950's do not in even the slightest way take away from the greatness and what I would agree is the near perfection of that decade. Did bad things occur? Of course! Things happen and occur in every society and time period ... do I think the 50's in comparison to every other decade rank high above ... of course! I love the 50's ... not because I'm ignorant of problems but as a whole!

I tend to look at the society as a whole, and find that the 1950's still stand far and away as a better time and place than the decrepit and broken one of today. It's shameful what the blacks had to endure during that time period but it was also that great generation of WW2 who put an end to it. All decades and all peoples have their ups and downs, good and bads, rights and wrongs ... and I'll take the 50's against any other decade any day of the week.

Most of the people who complain about the burbs,well, it probably wasn't designed for you. It was made for ex-GI coming home from war. After suffering through a great depression and then being asked to fight a bloody war, if the burbs were a little boring at times, it was probably OK with them. As for the racist images, they were mostly from the southeast, it appears. They sure as hell were not doing that in Chicago. Don't want to flame anyone here,but try and understand why the burbs happened.

Yes, people need to know about what was done to Blacks and other minorities before they romanticize the '50s. I remember the '60s, when you didn't see Blacks or East Asians at places like Disneyland, and when many White Americans worked at menial labor. There were very few minorities in education (unlike today), and mailmen were mostly white (and male). However, despite the prejudice and violence that existed in the past, there was much that was good, and that should not be discounted by anyone

Go on any website that shows people from Italy, and see if they are "brownish." The only exception would be some Sicilians, many of whom have Moorish blood in them, and are sometimes swarthy. America was almost perfect in the 1950s, we had a population of about 160 million, %90 white, %10 black, and only about a million Hispanics and Asians and we had a unified language and culture. I mean aside from segregation and everything that was a great time for America. We were rich, powerful, independant, envied by all the world. Then came the 60s with the social revolution crap that ruined morality and now the massive influx of Mexican immigrants. Oh well, great things don't last I guess.
