I agree and I doubt we will ever see another show so well thought out. In my lifetime I have yet to find a show that covers so many emotions. These two were the greatest combination in the history of television. I really do miss them.
I actually think Samantha being dead was the best ending. In the end, the XFiles was about how the most amazing things - the Truth - are the ones that happen in ordinary life. So Scully says to William in season 9 "the truth is out there my son, but not in science, or on some unseen plain. To see the truth, you have to look into your own heart, and you will be both blessed and stricken". The truth is that they love each other, and Samantha is dead. Knowing this, Mulder is blessed and stricken.

I'm here by the episode of 'Closure' and just want to vent that it was a piece of shit episode to end the journey to Samantha like that. Nigga, you can't claim 7 seasons long that they were aliens and than magically claim she dissapeared into thin air and died. Fucking bullshit! I'm not gonna forgive them just because they put a phaggot song like this on the scene. FUCKING LAZY WRITERS!!!
@whatupcuzzzz while I don't agree on all of that, I DO agree that they tried to tie up a lot of sloppy loose ends suddenly in one episode and it wasn't cool. I didn't really appreciate the whole she got kidnapped by some pedophile thing either. especially after so much was invested into her being part of some ultimate "bigger picture"..
There will never be another X-Files. Some that come close maybe. But ultimately we want to feel that whatever its problems....the US Gov't has agents that are talented and tough enough to face the unmentionable/unspeakable so we can sleep well.
Wow... just saw this episode ("Closure", season 7, episode 11) for the very first time since I was a kid, roughly an hour ago. I think the ending is one of the most beautiful moments in the history of television. Especially for long time fans like me, who grew up with Mulder's quest to find Samantha. I almost cried... it was so heart-warming and cruel at the same time. But finally... "I'm fine... I'm free."
sin dudas una de las escenas mas impactantes, misteriosas..una mezcla de alegria-tristeza en donde el tema de moby la acompaña y se conjuga como si siempre hubiera estado hecha para ello.....finalmente FOX puede ser libre
Closure... one of the most beautiful moment on TV... the last scenes with these children playing around Mulder, this music (they couldn't choose one better !!), Samantha running at Mulder... my eyes are wet when I look at this episode and when i'm thinking about that. After many years looking at his sister, Mulder is fine and... free ! Incredible last scene. Thank you the X-Files, we will never see on TV something like that. I grew up with the X-Files (i'm 29) and i will die with the X-Files...
@bordate I'm on my X-Files rewatching, around episode 13 of the 8th season (Great season btw, shame mulder it's only on a few episodes)
The show's been amazing and it had loads of great episodes, full of cliffhangers and emotional scenes, but this very scene is just perfection on screen. haven't seen anything like it since Twin Peaks.
(Lost ripped off this "time ot let go" theme, they just didn't knew how it to end it, so the pulled a "Closure"ala X-files)
I remember...the very first time I saw this episode...I was in tears at the end. Seeing Mulder FINALLY have closure for what happened to Samantha. Finally knowing exactly what happened to her, and ultimately being able to see her one more time. To hold her in his arms, and finally being at peace...I cried my eyes out. This song playing during that part was absolutely perfect. The spirits of all the children who were saved from horrible fates. I miss The X-Files every day of my life.
I want to say that I was a big X-Files fan, but I could hardly see them as I was working most of the time. That was back in the day before On-Demand and the DVR. Sadly, I missed out on a lot of the abduction Mythology, and basically only remember the "regular" episodes. However, I have recently purchased the series box set and I am currently on season 6 - so I cannot wait to see this episode. It's amazing how many movies have copied these episodes, "Push" and "Fourth Kind" for example.
This song was perfect for the best TV scene is any TV series episode ever made. This song and the scene are from the X-Files episode "Closure" and truely illustrates what closure can feel like.
I dont know why but this song that was played in the episode where Mulder finally found Samantha still breaks my heart. I almost cant stand hearing it. Probably because I knew back then that the X-Files were almost finished and their search was at the end. So sad and beautiful...
Just want to say a big thank you to andy baker for putting together this very stirring and emotional tribute to the xfiles, Its very bitter sweet. The xfiles maybe gone, but definitely not forgotten!!!
You know what I will never understand, why Reyes and Dogget never took. Believe me, the X-Files for me begins and ends with Mulder and Sculley, but these guys for some magical reason fit the bill. Magical because that just doesn't happen much with long running fully developed characters like Mulder and Sculley. As a true fan, I would have kept watching.
that episode was the ONLY episode that truly got to me. particularly around when i first saw it when it aired, i was actually looking for my 2 sisters that i have now established contact with... it makes you put yourself in his shoes and wonder.. how the fuck can you do it?
and that music, been trying to figure that out for AGES! thanks :D
such a powerful episode this was. i cried my eyes out. Mulder was so close.....he was so torn and he finally came to know his sister was ok. she was ok and at peace.
The best soundtrack and episode of the X files, cant wait to get this season on DVD and watch it again, very touching and moving piece. I still see some episodes on TV!
@GoForkYourself its from the end. the last episode. it kinda duplicates a scene from pilot '' i think its pilot'' where mulder and scully are in the motel room :-)
This was one of the best moments in the series and bought closure to one of the main arcs. But why did c.carter ruin it by reprising it in the second movie. He should have left it alone
Amen, very powerful stuff. I looked around on here a couple times for mulder's monologue @ the beginning. This music was a perfect choice, Thanx to auadioandybaker for posting!
Yeah me too. Don't know why but i can't keep myself from bursting into tears when i see the ending of that episode which is called "Closure". I'm such a girl =,)

I am not one to cry at a tv show. But I have seen the episode twice, and both times I cried. And I didn't cry a little. The tears absolutely flowed.

SCULLY: Mulder, where did you go?
MULDER: End of the road.
MULDER: Harold, you see so much but you refuse to see him. You refuse
to let him go. But you have to let him go now, Harold. He's protected.
He's in a better place. They're all in a better place. We both have to let go, Harold.
SCULLY: Mulder, what happened? Are you sure you're all right?
MULDER: I'm fine.
(MULDER looks up at the starry sky, and sighs.)
MULDER: I'm free.
