  • I think Delta is phasing out the 9's by 2014. I'm trying to fly as many DL flights operated by DC-9's as possible before their gone.

  • Now that's a regional jet with professional pay

  • Awesome plane Douglas got it right considering the longest production run in history (if you consider the md 80 as a fancy dc9, which it is) Only thing is I'd hate to be in the rest room during turbine fan blade seperation.

  • Looks like a DC-9-50

  • Boeing builds planes. Douglas builds character

  • flying on 1 next week

  • You gotta love that sound of reverse thrust! :)

  • gotta love the wingtip landing lights....years ahead of its time....great aircraft......

  • diesel 9

  • NWA!

  • This is actually the MD-80 series and is not an original DC-9.

  • @fabulousfazz what makes you say that?

  • @fabulousfazz

No, it is definitely NOT an MD-80 !! do some research before commenting you tard !!!

  • Question: If you get hired on NWA or Delta and you start your career with a DC-9 will you fly the same aircraft untill you retire or will you get promoted to bigger aircraft based on seniority with the airline PLEASE IM 15 AND I NEED AS MUCH INFO AS POSSIBLE!

  • @johnmunoz18 Generally pilots start on smaller aircraft and can move up to larger aircraft as they gain more experience and flying hours. Pilots must be trained and be certified on a new aircraft type before they can fly it.

  • @YULspotter so...does the airline do that for you?

  • @johnmunoz18 I believe you would have to apply to the airline for another aircraft type. They would then train you should you meet their criteria.

  • @YULspotter ok thanks for the info!

  • @johnmunoz18 depends. do you have foreskin?

  • @WomanWhoFarts whats foreskin?

  • @johnmunoz18 NWA is delta now because of the merger

  • @johnmunoz18 You will move up in aircraft depending on your seniority. The ones who've flown the longest with the airline fly as captain on the 747's and 777's. But before they even hire you you must have already logged many hours in multi-engine turbine aircraft, so you will probably work for either regional carriers or freight carriers before you can qualify for a job with the major airlines.

  • @artistgmg cool, thanks for the info!

  • @johnmunoz18 You're welcome, but the best way to become an airline pilot is to be a pilot in the military. You'll need great grades in school and be physically fit with perfect hearing and eyesight and no underlying health conditions to qualify but if you make it you won't have to pay a fortune for flying lessons and the airlines will consider you more than someone who paid for lessons. You don't have to be a fighter pilot, even flying transports is ok.

  • @artistgmg Yea man, the next 2 years in high school im trying to get all A and B's i can get those grades now but i slack sometimes, but yea i might just join the military for flying.

  • @johnmunoz18 You should look into joining the Civil Air Patrol. I am not sure exactly what they do but I know that a lot of teens join as a stepping stone to becoming a pilot in the Air Force. If you join will get to fly in their aircraft and they can also help you with flying lessons. There are local chapters all over the country. Check out gocivilairpatrol. com. I know at least one of the Thunderbird pilots was a CAP cadet (Nicole Malachowski).

  • @artistgmg Wow man i really appreciate this info you gave me, thanks :)

  • @johnmunoz18 You're welcome. I hope you make it to become a pilot. I always dreamed of being one but never did it because of the cost and my hearing is bad too. I wish you the best.

  • @artistgmg Oh that sucks, there is a senior at my school who wants to be a pilot but he's partially colorblind, he took a test and he cant see purple. But he's done a lot of mentoring to me, but anyways thanks you gave me some useful info :)

  • @johnmunoz18 Go to flight training, build up hours, get enough hours to apply for a minor/reigonal airline, if you go the military way, you wont worry about reigonal airlines, once you apply, theyll make sure u got the health, the experience, and of course, the attitude. say you get hired, YAY!!! you'll start in the right seat in the least senior aircraft possible, like CRJ, ERJ, B1900D, EMB-120, whatever.as you work there, you'll get upgraded to a diff a/c, right seat, then later the left seat!

  • Noisy, un-ecofriendly,shocking safety record. But man i love it!

  • SWEET reverse thrust!

  • gosh, that reverse thrust is beast!

  • Got to love those DC-9's!

  • I love how loud they are.

  • @1bearcatf8f I know it is the most attractive and appealing plane ever

  • @mileyrocks107 well i wouldnt say attractive but loud and smokey yes lol.

  • @1bearcatf8f yeah gotta love em

  • @mileyrocks107 Yeah i see Northwests DC-9s land at the my airport all the time even with the TV on i can hear them land.

  • @fanofgordon True... Now we can enjoy the current era.. 737s, 767s and 777s... And now the 787.. Beginning of the new era... At least we still have the 747. One day, these will also be history.. So, it's all about enjoying the current types while they're here... I just got to fly in a 727 once back in '92

  • I like planes and stuff but I've never been able to tell the difference between MD-80, MD-82 and DC-9s .. Only thing I've noticed there are shorter and extended versions...

Aren't they more or less the same aircraft? And the Boeing 717 looked alot like 'em too

  • @CobraMarty The MD-80 is a DC-9, but it's a DC-9-80! lol That's the only difference, AFAIK. They're just longer. 717 is the same thing, with a different cockpit?

  • @cjracer1000 Ah I see... Makes sense to me :P

  • beautiful aircraft. Too bad they are being taken out of service. :/

  • Watch some of my KMSP Takeoffs and landings!

  • old planes tend to smoke more

  • Noisy as hell..!

I like this plane, but I can't belive they're still flying in the US, when there are airlines already retiring their MD80's, wich were the improve of these (DC-9).

  • @XBarajasX

the b717 was the improved/updated version

the md80-88 was just the extended version..

  • the b 717 is just a MD 95. IDK y they renamed it thoough.

  • "Retired" DC-9s usually go back into service in latin america.

  • SCARY AIRCRAFT!!!!

  • looks like a nice, soft landing to me.

No need for youtube pilots. Let's just enjoy.

  • That was my sisters account. Now i use it okay. I really recommend that you stop talking. I'm a first officer for american eagle with a commercial pilot certification with multi-engine and instrument ratings. i have 500 hours with fixed wing aircraft and over 100 in multi-engine fixed wing aircrafts. I have a FAA First class medical certificate, IFR currency and FCC license. So Shut up, okay you little fool.

  • My dad flew F-15s back in the day and I know a hell of a lot about aircraft but I don't go around correcting random people. I think someone's a little proud.

  • Okay, I said something that was a little inappropriate. But still he kept talking so i needed to tell him off...

  • You needed to tell him off?

  • ?????

  • oh just stop xdstupidxd at least he has flown a plane unlike you only on flight simulator! WHY you trying to tell a real pilot that he is not a pilot, how would you feel if someone did that to you if you were a pilot. GOD DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I never told him that he wasn't a pilot. I believe he is a pilot, I was just pointing out that he was going around telling the other guy off.

  • oh ok then sorry for freaking out i guess i am dumb LOL

  • we don't care

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, a DC-9 is the most popular Airliner for NWA(What will soon be Delta) Because NWAbuys Dc-9's from airlines that don't want the DC-9s, and want newer(but worse) planes.

  • lol look at the air melting behind it

  • 0:43 an A330 at YUL? lol

  • it's an international airport. most likely flying a transatic flight, carribean flight or south american. woow your dumb..

  • listen to you, you cant even spell. I was joking around retard. I know it's an international airport. My dad flies 757-300's for Delta. he used to fly the 9 back when it was northwest. "woow your dumb" learn to spell before you call someone else dumb.

  • kay bud, my dad flies for westjet and i fly for american eagle... you don't even have a logbook bum boy....

  • HAhaHAH!!

dude.. you sure your a FO?? you sound like a teenager main =P

  • and you are only 10 years old? I think you are! So shut up! He is a first officer so why would you think he is a teenager!

  • WHahaha XD

wow ur rly defending him =P

u got proof that he's an FO son? xD

i dont give a damn if he is or aint.. i just find it funny the way he talks .. so chill bro!

    PEACE! ASIAN POWA! :D

  • alright alright i see what you mean I Guess he not an fo ur right! :D

  • @radjafan WHITE POWER!

  • dangg thats tight son! xD

  • love the basket style thrust reversers

  • i hatye thrust reverse on dc9 md8x and 717s but thats the olny part

  • Going flying in one of these December 11 can't wait!

  • Big ol smokey T-tail nice

  • One of my two favorite turbofans ironically my number one favorite is also Pratt Whitney it's the 2037s that are my number one fav

  • i don t see any reason dc9s should retire for another 5-6 years they kick ass!!!!!

  • Isen't this a MD80? It seens to be a bit too long for a DC9!

  • No this is a DC-9 though it's a series 51 which is one of the longer versions of the DC-9. NWA never had any MD-80's in this colour scheme.

  • What happened? I don't see them at yul anymore?! Juat the crj-200's

  • They are slowly being withdrawn from NWA's fleet so no more DC-9's at YUL. It has been replaced by the CRJ-900.

  • hm at least 75 should still be in service as i know. I hope they flying at least several years forward :)

  • @YULspotter Isnt it kinda ironic that Northwest was the launch customer for the md-80 then sold all of them and kept the dc-9s.

  • @maverick967 I'm not sure about that as I believe that Swissair was the lunch customer for the MD-80. I don't think Northwest ever had the MD-80 in their fleet but I could be wrong.

  • @YULspotter

Yes sir. Swissair was the launch customer. They ordered in 1977 and took delivery in 1980.

As far as md-80s in Northwest's fleet, they did fly them. They acquired them when they merged with Republic in 1986. A320 orders followed shortly after. They had considered buying more in the mid 90's, but rid their fleet of them in the late 90's. The A319 and A320s, along with the DC-9's were exactly what they wanted and needed.

  • @YULspotter lunch customerv ?

  • This is a DC-9-50 NWA never had MD80's at all.

  • Yes they did, they acquired them from Republic, and were retired in the late 90s. NWA flight 255 was an MD-82. They were retired, I believe do to High Cycles.

  • You usally take These for like 2-3 hour flights

  • Because it's difficult? You're lucky enough to be filming... I'm pretty sure the security is pretty tight.

  • Very Smooth!!!

  • DC9 one of the best aircrafts.

  • that is loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Come to venezuela and see a lot of dc9 in maiquetia airport

  • i don't get it how can they just fly a plane like that.. wouldent they have to fly one like a simulator? i`m being stupid but pm me how they do that shit

  • microsoft makes a flight sim and you can get a yoke, pedals, radio panel, and overhead panel and create a virtual cockpit.

  • Very nice. My dad was a DC9 captain with Eastern who had about 100 9's, from the 10 model, 31 model and 51. It is sad to see them disappear. The one in the video might have originally been an Eastern plane, NW aquired a lot after Eastern bellied up.

  • Douglas FOREVER!

  • Love the sound pof those JT8Ds

  • Ahhhh....nice touch-down...

  • this plane is becoming quite rare nowerdays

  • Sadly so... When's the last time you seen a 727 overhead....

  • Long live McDonnell Douglas..

  • Man those old JT8D's are smoky joes:P

  • that DC-9 came in real fast.

  • The last DC-9 I was on was when I went to Miami with ValuJet, about 10 days before flight 592 crashed. I wasn't even a month old.

  • talking about styles, have a look at Norwegian air shuttle's airplanes

  • OMG I was on that Air Transat A310 at 0:42 because I clearly remember seeing that Northwest DC-9 land after us! thats pretty cool.

  • If you were on the Air Transat aircraft at 0:42 then you can see a video of your plane landing as I have posted it on YouTube.

You can find it under the title of "Air Transat A333 landing on runway 06R at YUL"

  • oh maybe it wasnt my flight because im certain my flight was an A310

    oh well nice video anyway

  • Man those JT8Ds in reverse sound awesome!

  • i agree with you

  • Awesome video of a beautiful airplane.

  • Agree, i see that NWA DC-9 at KLIT allot and they make the ground shake

  • You gotta love the loud thrust reversers! You can hear them from a mile away! I love the sounds of JT8D's in the morning!

  • I really hope that Delta will let Northwest keep their red tails...I'll miss those a lot if they're gone.

  • Man, sometimes I wish I didn't bid for the 75. I miss my old comfortable airplane. Ha, o well, shit trips ;)

  • Well i love the smoke !!

  • Well I´m sorry for you!

  • Fuck the enviroment. Old airplanes RULE! And you better respect old aircraft!

  • we had a landing just like that in detroit

  • crappy airline because there based here in minneapolis but they actually got some good pilots i got to say that

  • What an ugly new livery, so devoid of colour

even the tail looks only partly painted.

Northwest (do they still call themselves that?)

used to have the nicest-looking airplanes....

with the big red top, grey swath, and descending

blue cheatline wrapped around the entire plane

    -- nevermind the smartest logo.

  • Yep, they still call themselves Northwest even though their new logo says NWA. They probably will keep their name if the merger with Delta goes through. A Delta/NWA merger would create one heck of a big airline (like AF/KLM).

  • i really agree with you

its sad really to see so many airlines nowadays

all they do is have a white body with a painted tail

i guess planes have a 'style' too

  • you can really see all of the emmisions that the dc-9 gives off wile its still in the air

  • dc-9s have a hard touchdown ive been in two and it felt like the pilot dropped it like its hot there very touchy airplanes i know that

  • video espectacular..

  • DC 9s are still my favorite plane

  • thankx for the vid.
