Perhaps you're thinking of HTC? They came out with a touch phone a couple months before the original iPhone - and they make many very nice phones and handsets now. However, HTC is a TAIWANESE company - so although they are Chinese ethnically - they are NOT Chinese from Mainland China. I worked for them for a while. But to tell you the truth, I'm still going to buy an iPhone - everything else is just trying to copy and be an "iPhone killer" - which doesn't exist.

Probably the factory that custom MAKES them FOR apple has all the technology available. They just set up an extra production line, order more of the original parts, they have all the knowhow and all the tools! It's easy to change the software a little bit, so it looks a millimeter different from the real thing. Different stickers finish the little job. Have you tried the iPhone? As a matter of fact it's very good at determining what you're touching. It gets the small links on webpages and everything, and the keyboard is easy to get used to. I love it. And there is no limit to the # of or type of apps you can make for it, since 3rd party users are designing new ones all the time! It's brilliant, really.
