I bought this 8 track in 1977, in 7th grade and I played this song over and over. On the school bus I would look at other kids and wonder why they didn't like this kind of music, I remember feeling different some how from them. I hadn't heard this in so many years, and it instantly reminded me of that time.
I recently bought low and I totally love it all the way. Each time i listen to it, I feel like all my problems just fade away to the back i really really love the entire album
Low's the best, I mean Alladin's the best , no wait Scary Monsters-that's the..no I mean Hunky Dory..but what about Lodger..yeah that's the one.. wait Heroes, that's fuck*n aweso...oh really though Station to Station is bada...no wait the early Spiders-that, that's the best...no wait Tin Mach...ICON
impossible to believe LOW is 33/34 years old, absolutely ground breaking, still relevant and still having massive influence on all genre of music.my fave bowie Album by miles.
i love this album!! but i really like alternative and experimental music. are there any other albums of him that are worth listening to if i like that kind of stuff, or should i just go to another artist?
@basman2006 Look into what is called the Berlin Trilogy. It is three albums that Bowie did in collaboration with Brian Eno. Low is the first of the 3 followed by Heroes and Lodger. Also try listening to some krautrock. This includes but is not limited to artists like Kraftwerk, Neu!, and Can. If you want to listen to new experimental music, try Atlas Sound, Animal Collective, and Dan Deacon.
Bowie(Vocals,guitar,pump bass,arp,tape cellos,tape horn and brass- synthetic strings, sax,harmonica,pre-arranged
percussion,piano,vibraphones,xylophones
Brian Eno(Vocals, splinter mini moog, report arp, rimmer E.M.I, guitar treatments, chamberlain, piano ) Roy Young (Piano, Farfisa organ ) George Murray(Bass ) Ricky Gardner (Guitar ) Carlos Alomar: (Rhythm guitar ) Dennis Davis(Percussion) Mary Visconti, Iggy Pop, ( Backing vocals) Eduard Meyer Cellos) Peter& Paul (Pianos, arp )
This album and this song in particular changed the way that I interpreted music. Muzicul pretty much hit the nail on the head with what went through my mind the first time I heard this. The synth at the end is so haunting.
Change can be frightening and depressing, like leaving a piece of you and your loved ones behind. But it can bring new loved ones and experiences, and you know that you are always you, so things never seem too foreign to you because you know that you are the reason you're there, in some way.
@IntractableJ I love what you wrote. I'l probably soon move to another town for an entirely new job, a new carreer in a new town awaits me... and your comment expresses it so right :)
Am I the ONLY one who loves this song? Imagine a horrible monster holding a beautiful little creature in a cave - and the piano is the creature and the harmonica is the monster yanking it back on it's chain into the damp darkness. The creature never escapes the demon. BUT WAIT A SECOND the creature DOES escape, at the end...the piano goes crazy with freedom and the monster wails after him in anger but never sees the creature again!! Also what kind of piano is that middle and end? Real or synth
so ahead of its time, this was 1977,fantastic.

such a pity this album wasn't the soundtrack to The Man who Fell to Earth
Gefilta 2 months ago 2
@Gefilta I agree this would have been perfect for the Man who fell to Earth, considering the soundtrack that was used in the film wasn't that good.

Its impossible to understate the impact this LP has when it came out. Bowie was a major name and he'd just donw his Soul Phase.
When John Peel started with Speed Of Life everything changed

Groundbreaking album. One must remember that Brian Eno was also a driving force behind this album.
Also, a big influence was the great German group, Kraftwerk. They set the scene for this type of music...

Why did he go to Berlin, when he could have come to Burnley, Nelson or Colne? I don't understand.

The sun coming up in the morning. I just have the feeling he wrote this at about 6am or something
The other is cycling. I'd bought a bike and just happened to be listening to Low and Heroes quite a lot.
