Okay, well, I am currently studying in Costa Rica. About Jurassic park, it was filmed on on island off of Costa Rica, which would be why the trails reminded you of Jurassic Park.
Also, too bad you came to Arenal during the rainy season, because it is pretty cool. But if you do come back to Costa Rica and want to do something that you will remember for the rest of you life, climb Rincon De La Vieja. It is an easy hike and SO worth it :D I wish I could go back, but it is currently closed.
I literally just got back three days ago from the Arenal volcano Observatory Lodge! I was in Costa Rica for a friend's wedding, and got to really just experience how beautifully diverse the entire country is. If you drive an hour on any direction from wherever you are and it is almost as if you are in a different country altogether. And the people there are all surprisingly kind, even to ignorant and undoubtedly annoying U.S. Citizens like me and my family. Glad you fell in love on your trip Al
I don't know how I missed this when it was first posted.
I almost cried watching this. Your video reminds me so much of Ecuador and everything I love about it. I have friends studying there right now and I'm addicted to looking at their pictures on Facebook. I miss it so much.
This reminds me of when I was in Madagascar, I never had the opportunity to be alone but I always felt that immensity and that closeness to nature (and of course the feeling that you are in Jurassic Park). Yet even in the closeness of people, I got to know more about who we are as humans because being with the same 19 people for a month straight meant we really learned about each other. That's also how I became interested in psychology because the way we interact with one another is interesting.
i love listeing to your voice alex, when i'm angry i come bacck to your videos because it calms me down, its the realness of your voice, even when you are taking about the most unreal things like harry potter and velociraptors, i thank you for that :)
I live in a really beautiful place called New Zealand and my family go on holidays to areas like that all the time we kind of just take it for granted. This video really made me appreciate where I come from…
Great footage, reminds me that - sadly - all the jungles I have been to have been located inside of greenhouses... I wish I could afford a trip like that.
Oh, and great job neither getting lost nor eaten by something nor being washed away by lava... ^^
When I went to Arenal, the volcano was covered in clouds, too. I was only there for a day to do hot springs/tourist-y stuff, but the nature you filmed looks absolutely gorgeous.
I'm glad you liked the Homeland! My mother is from there and I love visiting. You should go to Nicaragua (where my dad is from) it's beautiful and a HUGE culture shock.
This is really nice. I think it is the first thoughts from places I have seen you do, and I like it. I would love to see more of this kind of thing :)
This is such a beautiful video. It makes me want to go hiking or at least for a walk (Luckily I do live sort of in the countryside but I do take it for granted)
It's a good thing I'm not the only one who thinks that way during hikes :) Last year, my mom and I went on a hike in Yellowstone National Park. It was through some small mountains, and at the top of one you could see the really large mountain in the distance with all of the clouds around it. To describe it best, it looked like a picture from Lord of the Rings. Therefore, we pretended to be hobbits the rest of the hike ;) It was wonderful! :D BTW love the video, it's beautiful there :)
Alex! I studied abroad in Costa Rica last semester! I was there for 4 months, living with a host family in San Jose. I visited Arenal too, and got to enjoy the hotsprings. :) I'm so glad you are getting to experience that wonderful, wonderful, country. I miss it and my family there terribly :(
I went to Costa Rica a few years ago, it was the best month of my life. I also hiked up that volcano and it was awesome. Literally the best place I've been in the world (and I've been about a bit) everyone should go at least once just to see the sheer beauty of its magnificence.
This was lovely :) I love going on solitary walks like that; just walking in silence and taking in the wonders of nature surrounding you... There's no feeling quite like it.
I'm trying to figure out where to go study abroad right now, and one of my options is a tropical biology program in Costa Rica... this video makes that seem like a reaaaaally good option.
My favorite vlog ever!!! I'm from Costa Rica and your words were beautiful!!! I wish I could have met you!!! You're one of my favorite youtubers and you came to my country!! I feel very happy about it!!! I love you!!!
This is awoosome! I have friends who are missionaries in Costa Rica so I sometimes forget that it's not just a place of "foreign missions" but also a place of incredible beauty. Yay for God's creations!
I went to costa rica a couple years ago with a group of my friends. and it was awesome so so beautiful.. and kinda breath taking.. we got to zip line.. i was near fraijanes
Thank you so much for your compliments about Costa Rica. I feel so proud to live and being born in here. I know it's a beautiful country, but I have never listened to another person's point of view. I'm so happy you liked my country and feel very proud of it :)
This is exactly how I felt when I went to Costa Rica two years ago for a family friend's wedding. We went on a canopy tour (via zipline) through the jungle, and as touristy as that sounds, it was amazing and reminded me of how incredible the world can be. I didn't get to spend as much time there alone since we were constantly surrounded by friends (not a bad thing!), but every I really cherished every moment I did get to spend in nature. We don't have a lot of that in Philadelphia. :(
Looks fun! We are going soon. Too bad about the crappy filming and horrible video.

While you were talking about the clensing power of rain, all I could think about was how in literature, rain/water can symbolize rebirth.
