Do you ever think maybe society (esp. governments) want us to retain a certain degree of dependency? I've actually thought about this many times... For instance, the income tax keeps us dependent in a lot of ways...pretty much anything that relies on income tax info is like a dependency. Same with social security, any other forms of federal ID.. :P
If you think about it, even the way the education system is set up makes us dependent on them to make some sort of living.
We are a civilization built on dependence. I have something you want/need, you have something I want/need, so let's trade. Something to think about on the topic of legalization of all substances, that matter in contrary to voicing your opinions CAN hurt and kill others that just happen to be around. I'm totally for live and let live, but with some substances, it's not only a danger to the person using, it is a danger to others as well.
Despite how absurd it is to trust strangers to know what they're doing, we have to or else the system would collapse! Just imagine how many cars are on the roads, and all those drivers in the cars. We have to depend on those drivers not to do something stupid, else we'd never go out in a car for fear of one driver screwing up. And yes, drivers do screw up sometimes, but we have faith that it won't happen to us (or that it won't happen again), against all reasonable judgment.

I lived in San Diego for more than 15 years. Nothing like the smell of the downtown area around the parks and the local beaches filled with people that believe they are using mind altering chemicals responsibly or at least started out that way. Prostitution - Legalize it but control it in the sense of safety, health and standards. I think it would serve society for the betterment, bring down the cost, and increase the safety standards. There are a lot of men for whatever reason need this services and I can only believe that it is better to satisfy those needs vs. suppress those needs.

Use it responsibly than that is great but if you cannot control it then be prepared to accept death or deportation because society is not going to tolerate the danger, destruction and cost that this nonsense presents. You can educate your children without a degree. They call it home schooling and if I had the time and patience I would prefer to educate them myself, get them a GED by the time they are 12 years of age and then start working on a higher level of education if they were so inclined otherwise get their bottom out there working in some capacity.
@eveningbuzz I was homeschooled until I was 15. Then I went to public school. Home schooling was great but it did not provide everything public school did. I'm glad I ended up in a public school.
@Brittanysofficial Let me explain. I would include regular field trips so the child could see WHY they are learning, HOW it will work in their future. Plus there is a lot of inefficient use of time spent in a public school whereas home school can accomplish the same results at half the time which leaves a lot more time for play or pursuing personal interest. Besides, I could adapt learning to the gender. A girl relates to math different than a boy. Boys relate to reading different than girls.
@Brittanysofficial I must also admit that when a kid gets to their mid teens sometime they are not teachable. Older kids may be better served by going off on their own or listen to others vs. mom or dad. That is why I would push hard for a GED by 12. I feel like field trips keeps kids motivated vs. sitting in some class room with 30 or 40 other unmotivated kids. At 13 they need to start to learn what a job is and means.

I define and measure my independence by avoiding forced dependencies. Yes I must call a roofer, mechanic or doctor to make up for my own lack of ability, but I get to select those people and have some control. I pity those who are entangled with friend and family commitments with no quid pro quo and no ability to "fire" them :)

I also dislike the notion of family thinking the deserve a break because we share blood. It takes money to maintain a company, people can't just keep doing work for free.

You can't know anything if people never informed you in the first place, and all your opinions would be the exact same as they were if people didn't gradually change them for you over time. hey i was home schooled at one point, they definitely didnt have teaching credentials, they were christians...anyways at least i could do all my work in the morning and sleep all day
@naturalistmind Me too! I was homeschooled through a Catholic organization until I was 15. Public school was much better for many reasons. I was happy home schooling because I was at home. I didn't have to work as hard. But the reality is that I wasn't as educated in my setting as I was in a public school.
There's a special facebook thing where if you post that you're traveling somewhere for a few months, then it raises breast cancer awareness. But not really. Because instead people are just confused.

Going back to your subject: We've been depending on each other since probably before we became human. We are born dependent and we keep on being dependent for the rest of our lives, and even after we die, we depend on other people burying our asses in the ground. Once you're comfortable with that idea, you'll really appreciate your uniqueness and individuality :)

Humans have natural tendencies to form a community structure whether they be small clicks, to towns and countries. We've always been somewhat dependent on others, and in today's society we're pretty much relying on other people to be able to live (food, water, medicine, clothing). But despite these dependencies, our society has a tendency to elevate self-worth, and make people feel like they're a lone wolf when really they're more reliant on the system then ever before.

I lived in San Diego for more than 15 years. Without blues there would be no rock, nor metal, almost every piece of music from the 60s onward on one way or another has been influenced by drugs but all that music circles back to blues anway. Prostitution - Legalize it but control it in the sense of safety, health and standards. I think it would serve society for the betterment, bring down the cost, and increase the safety standards. You can educate your children without a degree. They call it home schooling and if I had the time and patience I would prefer to educate them myself, get them a GED by the time they are 12 years of age and then start working on a higher level of education if they were so inclined otherwise get their bottom out there working in some capacity.

@Brittanysofficial Let me explain. I would include regular field trips so the child could see WHY they are learning, HOW it will work in their future. Plus there is a lot of inefficient use of time spent in a public school whereas home school can accomplish the same results at half the time which leaves a lot more time for play or pursuing personal interest. Besides, I could adapt learning to the gender. A girl relates to math different than a boy. Boys relate to reading different than girls.

@Brittanysofficial I must also admit that when a kid gets to their mid teens sometime they are not teachable. Older kids may be better served by going off on their own or listen to others vs. mom or dad. That is why I would push hard for a GED by 12. I feel like field trips keeps kids motivated vs. sitting in some class room with 30 or 40 other unmotivated kids. At 13 they need to start to learn what a job is and means.

Going back to your subject: We've been depending on each other since probably before we became human. We are born dependent and we keep on being dependent for the rest of our lives, and even after we die, we depend on other people burying our asses in the ground. Once you're comfortable with that idea, you'll really appreciate your uniqueness and individuality :)

A) Cookies are always better then dounuts, not counting....the....two....dounuts I had....today however, BUT STILL they are! lol
B) We pretty much depend on one another because thats how we as a speicies have managed to survive for like 3 or 4 million years now. Its just hman nature really, but independance isn't bad either. I honestly think its good to have 50/50 of both independce and depence on others as well. It helps give one another new ideas on issues in the world.

Well, human dependency is a rule since we exist, and I think it is going downhill, as a technocrat, I believe we have the technology to make money disappear and give everyone a nice quality of life. Humans have natural tendencies to form a community structure whether they be small clicks, to towns and countries. We've always been somewhat dependent on others, and in today's society we're pretty much relying on other people to be able to live (food, water, medicine, clothing). But despite these dependencies, our society has a tendency to elevate self-worth, and make people feel like they're a lone wolf when really they're more reliant on the system then ever before.

But we are all dependable. And that is why we are human beings. We are social animals, we have the need to have people around us. Aristotle even said it. We are all social animals ;)
