  • @fizzyc97 I've played clawhammer banjo lefty for 4 years. Had my instruments custom made. I have yet to master the tenor banjo though!

  • any chance ud do a tutorial on this 1 BRILLIANT as per usual

  • I think my banjo is the same as that one but sounds nothing like that !! Could be the stings ? they sound as is theyre hollow and flat, no resonance. anybody ????

  • You might try switching to a different brand (I use D'Addario tenor banjo strings, GHS and Elixir (nanoweb) strings).

You might also try a thicker pick to get a more solid contact with the string, assuming your right hand is solid enough with triplets to not need a super-thin pick.

Or, you might also considering using a thicker guage of strings, but again, only if your right hand is solid.

Hope this helps you find that sweet sound.

  • More of a five strung guy myself, but this is really cool still! 5 stars!

  • Very nice! I play this tune on tenor banjo, one of my favorite tunes!

  • Amazing fingers, friend. I always thought this tune only belonged on the banjo, but Im a convert.

  • Dropped a wee blusey flat 3rd in at about 2:41 mins. Did you mean to do that? It was brilliant anyway.

  • not an easy tune, but well done!

  • you dont have tabs do you?

  • jaysis your deadly on that thing hey

  • Slainte, paddy. Much appreciated.

  • Hey Dick. Just check out the tutorial verison I posted a few weeks ago, if you're interested in learning it.

  • what way is the tenor guitar played is it strumed like a normal guitar or plucked like the banjo?

  • I flatpick both the tenor guitar and the tenor banjo. I guess you could use finger picks, and some people do (with the tenor guitar), but most tenor players use a flat pick.

  • ok thamks but would the two be the same ie notes and what not if it even has notes?

  • very good keep it up lad

  • thanks was brilliant. really well done!

  • ??????????????????????????????????????

  • Excellent job, great to see young banjo players, keep it up

  • Definitely check out the album, and yes, that's how I learned the tune since I can't read music written in treble clef.

As to my tunings, I usually keep the t-banjo tuned to GDAE or tuned a half-step up from that (like all the strings are capoed on the first fret). On the t-guitar, the standard is CGDA, but I tune mine DGDG.

    Hope this helps. Slainte!

  • With comments like yours, I can't help but make more videos, regardless of their quality. This version of the tune should (roughly)correspond to Kieran Hanrahan's version on "Kieran Hanrahan: Plays The Irish Tenor Banjo." Best of luck with the tenor. If you record anything, send me a link so I can check it out. Slainte!

  • Slainte, Andy. Thanks!

  • amazing keep it up m8. i also play the banjo

  • great stuff love the tone from ur banjo

  • Are you self taught? If not how did you learn to play so well?

  • I'm all self taught, so I have no one but myself to blame the mistakes on.

  • is dat a richwood banjo luks vry like mine?

  • Nope, this is a cheap as hell Iida (Korean) tenor.

  • Another great job! Love the back beat!

  • Another great job! Love the back beat!

  • great stuff!

  • Fantastic job sir, well done

  • AAhhh theres nuttin' like a Banjo played WELL! and dont worry about the not nowin' about the keys and stuff lol sur ive heard lots of trained musos and yes they are musicaly correct but have NO feelin' for da music, fair play to ya and keep enjoyin it, I do

  • Slainte, spuds. Thanks for the kind comments.

  • This is going to sound horrible, but I don't know what key I'm playing in, unfortunately. I'm what you might call musical theory retarded. I do think the tune is in the key of D, though. I am tuned GDAE, however, you are correct. The first notes are a run up the scale starting at E and going through A on the E string.

  • Wow, quite a set of compliments you just gave me. The camera I'm recording these with was supposed to be a step up from my last one (and thus a better tool to show people what I'm doing), but obviously it hasn't turned out that way. When I can afford a better camera that can actually show my finger movements in time with the music, I'll do some of these tunes slower so people can follow them. Until then, I just hope you're all well trained in the Suzuki method or just enjoy the music. Slainte!

  • Hi there, just discovered your flicks this morning. I play the tenor banjo meself (a vega)and the octave mando. Man, I love your playing - fluid, fast, nice variations, spot on triplets. Its made me wanna practise all day. Please post more.

  • You have no idea how much it means to have such kind comments directed toward my playing. Much appreciated, Bodatcha. I'll keep posting if you'll keep watching. Slainte!

  • I love this too... you are fast becoming my favourite banjo player :-)

  • Keep sending comments like this, and you'll become my favourite commenter. Cheers!

  • Nice smooth style! Inspiring!

  • Cheers, bowirich, and thanks!

  • exellent, Looks like Barney MacKenna's version

    tantoonie0

  • superb enjoying this with a beer as ya all should!!

  • Excellent

  • Very nice!

  • Slainte! I could say the same about your videos as well. I especially liked your rendition of "Maid Behind The Bar." Very clean, much sharper than mine.
