@dudeitoastedthedog The singer (and songwriter) of the original version is the same Paul McCartney from the Beatles...however, this is a cover version. Paul's version was co written with fellow Wings member Denny Laine (which I believe he sold the rights to his portion of the royalties/credits back to Paul when he was going broke after the break up of Wings)
@Bigcasino38 While I definitely admire the beauty of this version and the singer's voice, with all due respect, it was "that Mcartney[sic] thing" long before this. McCartney wrote this song about a very special place that was dear to his heart, and as such it is my personal opinion that his original version would be unjustly supplanted by another on the basis of sound quality alone. Nevertheless, as I have already said, I certainly believe there is room to appreciate both versions.
The melody of this "haunting" to me.When the Beatles came to America in the 1960's very few males liked them.We didn't know what we were hearing musically. They were robbing us of our girls. Now we listen to music written buy some of them and marvel.
beautiful song i live in scotland and love it been there a few times everytime i hear the pipe band i get goosebumps its quite freaky ma great grandad played the pipes for that very band b4 he sadly died
@fellinian - as the immortal Frank died in June 2010, and internet connections from beyond the grave are notoriously hard to find, I can confirm my lack of being-Frank-Sidebottom-ness.
His tragic death only makes tunes like this, inspired by his classic "Mull of Timperley," all the more poignant.
@fellinian - You are correct - Frank will live forever, and so will his immortal song "Mull of Timperley." I think that, if asked, Sir Paul of Macca and his sidekick Sir Denny of Lane would admit to the heavy influence of Frank Sidebottom in every song they ever wrote.
I hope Paul and Ringo now take some of the demos that Frank left and finish some of his songs, like they did with "Free as a Bird."
What a wonderful version of this beloved song! Thank you for bring it in here!! It is so great! I never heared this song with such a wonderful voice!!
"Mull of Kintyre" is a popular 1977 song by Paul McCartney and his band Wings. The song was written by McCartney and bandmate Denny Laine in tribute to the picturesque Kintyre peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, where McCartney had owned a home and recording studio since the late 1960s, and its headland or "mull".
The song was Wings' biggest hit in the United Kingdom where it became Christmas number one, and was the first single to sell over two million copies in the UK.
Paul McCartney wrote this song- even though he's English, he admired the beauty of the land where he lived in scotland at the Mull of Kintyre. THe true accent here makes it equally pretty.
Beautiful song, thanks for posting. Still searching NZ to get the Dragoon Guards cds!!! Like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, I will find it one day.
Thanks for that. Also I went to itunes & bought heaps of songs. If they come to the South Island NZ, I would definately like to go & see them. (as for the website...not sure why I didnt look there in the 1st place LOL) :-)

Chris Sievey is death, not Frank.
MacCartney and Lane wrote the song in the 1977, it is not "inspired" to Mull of Timperly.
