@Beatz4Life96 i respect your opinion. but if he died instead of dilla im sure you and alot of other folks would think different..again just my opinion..no argument
There would be no Madlib without Dilla. Madlib is my 2nd favorite producer of all time behind Dilla(ok,maybe 3rd with Pete Rock at 2nd place),but seriously,Dilla was on an other level.
Madlib got his drumming, and bass skills from Dilla, the only difference is that Dilla's drums were sharper, and while Madlib mostly does beats based on loop samples,Dilla was one of the best ever when it came to chopping up samples in a creative way.
@9Bamba5 Gotta disagree with "There would be no Madlib without Dilla," not to take anything away from Dilla (one of the best EVER!)....Madlib got his start completely seperate and independent from Dilla in the early 90's working with Tha Liks and Lootpack....I doubt ML was getting any inspiraton from JD in 1993 when he heped produce tracks for Tha Liks on "21 & over" or in 1995 when he worked on "Coast to Coast," both of which predate the first Slum Village release in '97
I agree that my statement was not 100% true,i dont know why i said it that way.
All im sayin is that if you listen to Madlib's beats before and after 98-99,you can hear a big difference. During the Jaylib era,his style even changed more towards Dilla's style. That cant be said of Dilla tho.
Madlib does his basslines and drums the same way Dilla did,and his sampling has become pretty similar too,hes just not as creative at it as Dilla was.
@9Bamba5 just shut up. you don't know what you talking about. Dilla wouldn't sleep the 1st time he heard Soundpieces he had to call Questlove and D'Angelo to tell them how dope he thought it was. have you ever listened to what Madlib did before Madvillainy ? just the work he did from the mid-nineties to the early 00s trump most producers careers.
@9Bamba5 the only thing Madlib got from Dilla is the harder drums (on some of his beats because he has way too many styles of percussions) and an increased use of soul samples. Dilla does not trump Madlib when it comes to chopping. You would have a dumb look on your face listening to some of the stuff he flipped.
There would be no Madlib without Dilla. Madlib is my 2nd favorite producer of all time behind Dilla(ok,maybe 3rd with Pete Rock at 2nd place),but seriously,Dilla was on an other level.

@ProPoe1 i know they've worked ALOT together but i'm not sure if they're on the same label. madlib does music for different labels too, like stones throw, etc. a good example of this is her 2008 album "new amerykah part 1" was released on Puppy Love, Universal Motown. and 2010's follow up 'new amerykah part 2' was released on just universal motown. Alot of Madlib's albums are released through Stones Throw records, but his 12-volume "Medicine Show" series is on his own label Madlib Invazion.
@tylerstone1980 bonus note: if you're not familiar with Madlib's 12-volume medicine show, you should check it out. every month for a year he's putting out a beat tape. on uneven numbered months (1,3,5,7,9,11) he releases original production work. while his even numbered months he is releasing mixtapes that represent his mixing and dj'ing capabilities
@anaheimtk hey man! i have them all on download. i know you can order them from the stonesthrow website. if you are familiar with torrenting, let me know and i can send you a personal message with links to the albums. if you don't know how to use torrents, and you REALLY want them but can't afford them, if you give your word that you will one day purchase all the ones you like, then i have no problem sending them to you through email. the only reason i have them on download is because i can't...
@tylerstone1980 ...because i can't find them at all anywhere in ottawa, canada. but once i know which ones i like the best, i'm going to order them all. it's really important that we support artists like madlib through purchasing their albums. but at the same time, i have no problem getting a sneak preview before i actually buy them. anyways, let me know what you need and i'll be there for a fellow music lover.
hey bro. hope the following info helps in your searches.
#2 is "Accordian" by Madvillain (DOOM and Madlib).Album is called Madvillainy. PICK THAT UP!!! #5 is called "The Exclusive" By Quasimoto (Madlib alias) featuring M.E.D.. Album is called 'The Further Adventures of Lord Quas'. Another must-have for your collection.
# 7 is called "Block Rock" by Ghostface Killah. Album is called 'More Fish'.
enjoy..and keep digging for madlib beats. the man's catalog is incredible!
@tylerstone1980 k thanks alot, and i already have alot of the madvillainy album, and i need to get some more lord quas up in my music folder, and block rock sounds good. so again, thank you
What's the song and artist of the 3rd one that comes on around 1:15, and also the 5th one that comes on around 2:40, and the last one is #15 around 7:23?
clearly the most underrated producer of all times. we hear endlessly about premier, timbaland, marley marl and dre, but madlib is easily up there with them. Incense on the new Erykah LP is astonishing.
@Rackets1 check Jay-Z's big pimpin, Timbo barely dodged a bullet not tryna clear that sample, Ayo technology, Aaliyah's 'More Than A Woman', 'Don't Know What To Tell Ya', the list goes on and on, point being hip-hop was built on sampling

all these Hip Hop producers do , is stealing the instrumentals from unknown old folk songs of other countries...One example is Madlib...He stolen dozens of instrumentals from old other countries' songs!
And then he mixed and he get the respect he doesnt deserve!
I think Hip Hop producers who compose the beats on their own without samples, really deserve the respect...Timbaland didnt stole samples before 2003!
That's why he deserves more respect than other HHproducers!
Madlib actually blends samples until they're something new and unique.. There are alot of wack fuckers who think they possess talent because they can operate a mpc. If you held everyone to timbalands standard you'd wind up with a short list of producers. Madlib was doing shit for a looong time without any acclaim from the mainstream. So any props he gets nowadays is overdue.
@Rackets1 He actually has the permission to sample whatever he wants because of all the archives that are part of his little studio record label whatever you want to call it... so its not stealing if it legal
@Rackets1 he deserves FULL credit for what he does dickhead. Timbaland? okay now i can't take you seriously so i'll lay it straight the fuck down for you. Madlib takes old, peculiar, non-popular music and breathes new life into them. everything he does is by sound. there is no pre-planning, no EQ'ing...he just hears something old and creates something new out of it. and people's appreciateion for THAT old music goes up and it gains popularity it never had. i can't tell you HOW MANY times...cont.
@tylerstone1980 how many times i've found out what he's sampling, then go out and listen to the original to see what he did with it. and i grow an appreciation for a sound that i didn't know existed until he brought it to light. THAT, sir, is music. TIMBALAND? pff....the reason it takes him a couple years to put out an album is because of all the pre-planning and the eq'ing of the drums. Mad does it by ear. it's all freestyle on that machine.
Timbaland...hahaha...can't get over that. ...cont..
@tylerstone1980 Timbaland takes years to engineer a sound that is "pleasing to the ear". what the fuck is this, classical? no, it's hip hop. it's supposed to be dirty, it's supposed to be instantaneous. you can introduce me to a Timbaland song and i can tell you EXACTLY what's going to happen throughout the beat on his song. Madlib is an inventor, and his sound is UNPREDICTABLE. i can pretty much guess exactly how the next timbo song is going to sound too. he's not that great. get over it!
I always hear people mention mad of the obvious producers, but my dude Illmind never gets the recognition he deseves as well!! He brings the flamers EVERYTIME!
WHERE-THE-FUCK is Dudley Perkins' "Misled"?? That one might be his best beat ever!!

@YungCyfe it's really hard to argue with morons, isn't it?
tylerstone1980 1 year ago
@Rackets1 He actually has the permission to sample whatever he wants because of all the archives that are part of his little studio record label whatever you want to call it... so its not stealing if it legal
ANOTHERWORLDKREATION 1 year ago
@Rackets1 he deserves FULL credit for what he does dickhead. Timbaland? okay now i can't take you seriously so i'll lay it straight the fuck down for you. Madlib takes old, peculiar, non-popular music and breathes new life into them. everything he does is by sound. there is no pre-planning, no EQ'ing...he just hears something old and creates something new out of it. and people's appreciateion for THAT old music goes up and it gains popularity it never had. i can't tell you HOW MANY times...cont.
tylerstone1980 1 year ago
@tylerstone1980 how many times i've found out what he's sampling, then go out and listen to the original to see what he did with it. and i grow an appreciation for a sound that i didn't know existed until he brought it to light. THAT, sir, is music. TIMBALAND? pff....the reason it takes him a couple years to put out an album is because of all the pre-planning and the eq'ing of the drums. Mad does it by ear. it's all freestyle on that machine.
Timbaland...hahaha...can't get over that. ...cont..
tylerstone1980 1 year ago
@tylerstone1980 Timbaland takes years to engineer a sound that is "pleasing to the ear". what the fuck is this, classical? no, it's hip hop. it's supposed to be dirty, it's supposed to be instantaneous. you can introduce me to a Timbaland song and i can tell you EXACTLY what's going to happen throughout the beat on his song. Madlib is an inventor, and his sound is UNPREDICTABLE. i can pretty much guess exactly how the next timbo song is going to sound too. he's not that great. get over it!
